We experimentally demonstrate chirp-free 40-GHz CSRZ optical pulse generation using a 10-GHz Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) biased at the maximum transmission and a 25-ps delay line interferometer (DLI). The unwanted 20-GHz low frequency component is suppressed by about 25-dB.

Solving Resolution-Bandwidth Trade-off in Holographic Spectrometers using Multiplexed Cylindrical Beam Volume Holograms 利用多路柱束体全息图解决全息光谱仪的分辨率-带宽折衷问题

Holographic spectrometers using cylindrical beam volume holograms are presented with several advantages over conventional spectrometers. We specially show that these spectrometers can be designed to solve the well-known problem of resolution-bandwidth trade-off in conventional spectrometers through the use of optimally designed multiplexed volume holograms.

We propose a simple and compact wavefront sensor using a phase transmission grating attached to a CMOS image sensor. We present experimental results using a binary phase grating. An adaptive grating displayed by a phase modulator can extend sensor dynamic range.

Diffraction limited ultra-small photonic-crystal ring resonators with low loss 低损耗的衍射受限超小型光子晶体环谐振器

There is an increasing and largely unfulfilled need for nanometer-scale photonic components, both passive and active, in intra-chip optical communications and other high-speed, ultra-low- power photonic applications. Silicon-based components are favored because they are capable of on-chip-network integration with CMOS electronics. This paper presents a detailed analysis of radiative waveguide bend loss in single-ring PCRRs, as well as bend loss in micro-strip rings as a function of effective radius from 1 to 15 mum at lambda ~ 1550 nm.

The miniaturization of mechanical resonators continues to be of interest due to the basic physical insights into mechanical behavior at the nanoscale that can be provided, as well as the practical uses in sensing and signal processing to which such devices can be put. Some of the remaining open issues in this field pertain to the ultimate mass sensitivity of these structures, motivating the work presented in this paper. Specifically, we are interested in the factors that determine the dissipation, or quality factor, and the factors that limit the miniaturization that can be achieved with these structures.
