Optical coherence tomography is a non-contact imaging method of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye that is based on laser scanning in spectral domain. This study presents diagnostic possibilities of the new generation Solix FullRange™ OCT&OCTA apparatus (Optovue) to examine meibomian glands, cornea, anterior chamber, as well iridocorneal angles and lens. In the posterior segment of the eye it allows for the precise evaluation of the vitreous body, choroid, retina, optic nerve and blood-flow measurements.

An 8-year-old boy was admitted to the Ophthalmology Department due to a vision impairment with an accompanying decrease in visual acuity and bilateral optic disc oedema. As a result of interdisciplinary diagnostics, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, probably related to preceding infection, was diagnosed.

Introduction: Since the introduction, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) was believed to revolutionize cataract surgery. However, the judgment of clinical benefits was found to be far more complex than initially might have been thought. The aim of this review was to analyze the benefits and drawbacks of FLACS compared to traditional phacoemulsification cataract surgery. Results: The benefits of FLACS include lower cumulated phacoemulsification time and endothelial cell loss, perfect centration of the capsulotomy, and the possibility to perform precise femtosecond-assisted arcuate keratotomy incisions. The major disadvantages of FLACS are: high cost of the laser and the disposables for surgery, FLACS-specific intraoperative capsular complications, as well as the risk of intraoperative miosis and the learning curve. Conclusions: FLACS seems to be beneficial in some groups of patients i.e., with low baseline endothelial cell count, or those planning to receive multifocal intraocular lenses. Nevertheless, having considered that the advantages of FLACS might not be clear in every routine case, it cannot be considered as cost-effective.

Introduction: Retained subretinal perfluoro-n-octane droplets occur in nearly 1% of the procedures. When subretinal cystoid cavities are registered, differential diagnosis including this condition is needed. Clinical case: A 77-year-old male presented three small bubbles of perfluoro-n-octane under the papillomacular bundle after vitrectomy due to a retina redetachment, evidenced by multimodal image. Conclusions: Multimodal image can help to diagnose this condition. There are several signs that can support this diagnosis. If visual acuity is threatened, removing the bubbles is mandatory, accepting risks.

Despite the improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques age-related macular degeneration is still one of the main causes of central vision impairment. Throughout the years, the classification of subretinal neovascularization in the course of age-related macular degeneration has changed due to the advancement of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. In 2020 an expert panel reached consensus on a new nomenclature for neovascularization in the course of age-related macular degeneration introducing the concept of macular neovascularization, which refers to each neovascularization in macula, regardless of the location.

W artykule przedstawiono główne kryteria wyboru najczęściej stosowanych metod rogówkowych i wewnątrzgałkowych w celu korekcji wszystkich wad refrakcji.

Introduction: CD30-positive T-cell lymphoproliferative lesions represent a spectrum of heterogeneous disorders. Clinical case: An incision biopsy was performed in a 25-year-old man with a lump in the bulbar conjunctiva. Immunohistochemistry indicated membrane positivity for CD3 and CD30 in over 75%. PCR identified the monoclonal nature of the T-cells. The hematological study was normal. Following biopsy, the conjunctival tumor diminished until disappear. Conclusions: Mucosal CD30-positive T-cell lymphoproliferation could be ascribed to a reactive process but it is necessary to rule out a primary conjunctival tumor or the first manifestation of an anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

Homonymous hemianopia is a visual field defect following a stroke, tumor development, traumatic brain injury and other rare causes. Due to the damage to the visual system, lateral neglect occurs that induces difficulties with detecting objects on one side of the binocular visual field, which exposes patients to potential danger during daily activities, especially performed outside – in traffic. Different optical aids such as Fresnel prism have been developed to help those patients by increasing the perception of the affected hemifield. This prism correction can appear in various configurations, for instance: yoked prism, monocular and binocular sector prisms placed with a base to the affected side. The other option to deal with these patients is visual training based on stimulating the affected hemifield.

Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy is a rare disease caused by a mutation in the mitochondrial DNA. It appears most often in young men, leading to profound, permanent loss of vision in a short time. There is no specific treatment for this condition.Idebenone is a medicine that administered to patients with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy improves or stops the deterioration of vision. Increasing the number of people during therapy and the duration of treatment will allow in the future to answer the question, whether this drug is effective and safe in a larger group of patients.
