FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO TRAFFIC FLOW CONGESTION IN HETEROGENOUS TRAFFIC CONDITIONS 异构交通条件下交通流拥堵的影响因素

Most of the urban roadways do experience traffic flow congestion at various road sections called critical traffic points, which is partly contributed by the presence of various factors on the roadways. A number of studies have used travel time indices to determine congested links of the road networks. However, the travel time-delay based indices have found less application in the identification and quantification of congestion levels in the road networks. As a result, a limited number of studies have examined the factors contributing to the propagation of congestions at various road sections using the travel time-delay indices. This paper aims to identify factors contributing to propagation of traffic congestions at frequently congested traffic critical points and to estimate their influence on the entire road network using travel time-delay data. Travel time-delay data were collected by using test moving cars. The results indicate that low travel-delay transition index below 0.70 signify the jam and crowded traffic flow condition, while higher values greater than 0.70 indicate free flow phenomena. On the other hand, high congestion index values indicate jam and crowded flow conditions whereas the low values below 0.5 signify free flow conditions. Further, the results showed that low transition index and high congestion index values were associated with roadway design factors such as T-joints, cross joints, bus stops, humps and traffic lights, which are considered to be static bottlenecks which impedes the vehicle flow.

INFLUENCE OF PRODUCT AND BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT CHARACTERISTICS ON MANAGING SUPPLY CHAIN VULNERABILITY – A CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATION 产品和商业环境特征对供应链脆弱性管理的影响——一个概念基础

: Increased changes of trading rules in a global economy, more frequent adverse weather events due to climate change, and other unexpected events add more uncertainty to the ever-present logistics challenges for companies to manage their supply chains. Thus, there is increased theoretical and practical interest to prevent disturbances of logistics operations, as well as to manage disturbances when they occur and avoid supply chain vulnerability. Decreased vulnerability of supply chains is desired as it leads to robust and resilient supply chains. The objective of this paper is to understand how contextual factors, i.e., product and business environment related factors affect relationship between redesign strategies and vulnerabilities in the supply chain. We consider typical redesign strategies, such as the adoption of assurance systems, the use of proactive control, use of redundancy, or enhancing flexibility in supply chains. Seen from the lens of contingency theory, the findings from our literature review suggest that contextual factors affect the link between redesign strategies and vulnerabilities in the supply chain, but further research is needed to examine how each of the contextual factors affect selection and implementation of each redesign strategies used to manage supply chain vulnerabilities.

THE INFLUENCE OF AGGRESSIVE DRIVING BEHAVIOR AND IMPULSIVENESS ON TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS 攻击性驾驶行为与冲动对交通事故的影响

Findings from numerous studies pointed out the importance of studying certain forms of behavior and personality traits in order to understand propensity to commit unsafe maneuvers in traffic. The present study aims at evaluating the potential contribution of impulsiveness and aggressive driving in the prediction of traffic accidents, and at investigating relationship among them. Besides, the second main goal is to compare the levels of impulsiveness and aggressiveness among three considered groups: bus drivers, truck drivers and non-professional drivers. Participants were 305 drivers who completed the BIS-11 (Barrat Impulsiveness Scale) and ADBQ (Aggressive Driving Behavior Questionnaire). Research sample comprised of 202 professional drivers (bus drivers and truck drivers), and 103 non-professional drivers. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between impulsiveness correlates and correlates of aggressive driving behavior. Bus drivers and truck drivers showed higher levels of impulsiveness in comparison to non-professional drivers, while the highest level of aggression is recorded among non-professional drivers, followed by truck drivers and bus drivers. Finally, the results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that impulsiveness as a personality trait, as well as aggressive driving, are good predictors of traffic accidents.

EARLY COST SAFETY ANALYSIS OF RUNWAY EVENTS 跑道事故的早期成本安全分析

The importance to airport safety related events has grown significantly in recent years. Runway safety events continue to pose a real and genuine challenge to the aviation community. This article addresses how could an acceptable risk for accidents or runways be achieved. It considers what would be an objective method to establish if and which mitigations are necessary. Global estimations show that runway related accidents and incidents, cost the aviation industry an average of $500 Million per month. Therefore, a cost-benefit system analysis has the potential to greatly reduce these worldwide costs. It is also an excellent indicator for which subjects, areas and operators to address. The results highlight that present runway safety priorities need to be altered in order to stay / become effective. Obtained conclusions would be a great platform for new risk mitigation and / or reduction safety measures development regarding runway events.

DETERMINANTS OF SEVERE INJURY AND FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ON URBAN AND RURAL HIGHWAYS 城乡公路上严重伤害和致命交通事故的决定因素

Based on the recent Safety Fact Sheet, highway traffic accidents are becoming one of the leading causes of death. The main goal of this work is to study the correlation, impacts and the association of several highway pavements and geometric design elements, the prevailing traffic characteristics and environmental conditions on severe traffic crashes occurred over the five years period from 2010 to 2014 on selected two and four-lane rural and urban highways in the state of Alabama. Several state urban and rural highways with homogeneous variances, equal mean values and similar distributions of the crashes are identified and combined to form crash datasets. The significance of the initial categorical variables on the likelihood of generating severe crashes on dry and wet pavement surfaces are evaluated. The negative binomial regression model is used to estimate the observed crash data and identify the principal variables associated with the crashes.

The main goal of this work is to study the correlation, impacts and the association of several highway pavements and geometric design elements, the prevailing traffic characteristics and environmental conditions on severe traffic crashes occurred over the five years period from 2010 to 2014 on selected two and four-lane rural and urban highways in the state of Alabama. Several state urban and rural highways with homogeneous variances, equal mean values and similar distributions of the crashes are identified and combined to form crash datasets. The significance of the initial categorical variables on the likelihood of generating severe crashes on dry and wet pavement surfaces are evaluated.
