. The coypu Myocastor coypus is widely distributed in Argentina. In southern Patagonia the subspecies M. c. melanops is associated to large wetlands and river valleys. Although, hunting has been recognized as one of the causes of population decline at a regional level, the American mink Neogale vison has been also mentioned as a threat. Through monitoring (more than 7,000 hours of observations) and interviews with local inhabitants of the upper basin of the Deseado River (12 estancias ), northwestern Santa Cruz Province, Argentina, we examine the potential causes of population recovery. The results suggest that the evident recovery in this basin seems to be due to two main factors: the reduction of hunting pressure, and the American mink control plan that has been carried out since 2013. It is essential to consider and analyze the threats, in order to carry out management actions of great impact for the communities.

First record of the European hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778) in Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve, La Rioja, Argentina. In this work we present the first record of the European hare in Reserva Provincial Laguna Brava in La Rioja, Argentina. This represents the highest record of the species in the province, and an increase of 60 km to the East of its previously known distribution for La Rioja.

Of the three species of viscachas present in Chile, Wolffsohn’s viscacha Lagidium wolffsohni (Rodentia: Chichillidae) is the one with the most restricted distribution in South America, being found only in the regions of Aysén and Magallanes, in the extreme south of the country. Based on photographic records, we propose its potential presence in Puyehue National Park and Huinay, Hualaihué Commune, Los Lagos Region, southern Chile. These records would expand the species’ northern distribution by 722 km.

Redefining (again) the type locality of Kunsia tomentosus (Litchtenstein, 1830). On the basis of a reinterpretation of the historical evidence, including previously unconsulted literature sources, I restrict the type locality of the sigmodontine rodent Kunsia tomentosus (Lichtenstein, 1830) (Rodentia, Cricetidae) to the municipality of Capão Alto, on the Pelotas River, ca. 54 km SW of the town of Lages (ca. latitude -28.20°, longitude -50.73°).

Centronycteris centralis Thomas, 1912 has been included in lists of Honduran mammals; however, there are no verified records of the species for the country. We present the first verified record based on acoustic sampling at the Texiguat Wildlife Refuge, northern Honduras. This bat is a forest specialist that needs protected areas for its survival. Although this new record does not extend the distribution of the species, it confirms its presence in Honduras and highlights the relevance of the protected area housing the species. With the current record of C. centralis, there are now 112 confirmed bat species for Honduras.

New occurrence records extend the northern distribution of Dromiciops in Argentina. In this note we report five new localities for the genus Dromiciops, based on camera trap records and the finding of a dead individual, all from Nothofagus forests in the province of Neuquén (Argentina). These new records expand the known distribution of the genus almost 300 km to the north. These localities probably correspond to the species D. bozinovici.
