The Royal Palace of Ajuda, one of the main Portuguese royal residences during the 19th century, has a complex and long construction history, only recently completed, in 2021.Little is known about the palace’s original 18th century project, designed by the Portuguese baroque architect Manuel Caetano de Sousa. However, the contact in 2022, in a Portuguese archive, with two elevations of the Royal Palace of Ajuda depicting a language far removed from the neoclassical that would mark the work of the palace after 1802, plants the possibility of being faced with two of the missing drawings of Manuel Caetano de Sousa, made in the last years of the 18th century, a hypothesis that one will try to prove.

The paper reflects on some of the premodern protection instruments against dangers, apprehended as protoforms of insurance technology. Knowing that the insufficiency of these instruments to cover the daily risks incurred by individuals, created the need to devise new ways to protect resources, we problematize the role played by maritime insurance, seeking to capture (i) the regulatory norms to which they were subject, (ii) the traits that brought them closer to/distant from other instruments used for risk sharing and (iii) the criteria gradually used to evaluate the price to be paid for the risks experienced.

This article intends to analyze the presence of Spanish refugees in Portugal during the 1930s. It seeks to understand the differences and similarities that characterized the various moments of arrival of refugees in the country, especially after 1931, following the establishment of the Second Republic in Spain, and between 1936 and 1939, in the contexto of the civil war. It also seeks to understand how the Salazar's regime reacted to each of them, taking into account the Iberian context of the period in question, which was highly troubled and marked by several changes in relations between countries, which influenced the way refugees were perceived in Portugal, namely the emergence of Iberian fascisms and the occurrence of the Spanish Civil War.

Throughout human history we have witnessed migratory movements motivated by climatic, war, political, religious, and economic issues, among others. This is, in fact, a theme that marks the news today in different parts of the globe, from the Mediterranean to the US/Mexico border, from South Africa to Australia. In an attempt to look historically at the phenomenon of migrations, HISTÓRIA -REVISTA DA FLUP has launched a call for papers, with particular interest in the connection between migrations and culture. This introductory text presents the three texts published in the present issue

This article aims to analyze the influence of Portuguese immigrants, as well as their political and social networks, in the construction of anarchism in Brazil since its establishment until the 1920s. militants in the Portuguese community of the Brazilianlabor movement, as well as in revolutionary syndicalism and among anarchists: Joaquim Mota Assunção, Neno Vasco and Tércio Miranda. We hypothesize that Portuguese linguistic and cultural elements favored the construction of organizations that united Portuguese immigrants at first, but this did not exclude efforts for unions with the traditions of local struggles and also with other foreigners. This tendency was influenced by the ideologies gestated by the internationalist tradition and also by the transnationalist practice of the Portuguese agents or their descendants, building common class spaces between different countries.

This article aims to analyze the context and the bases that relate the parliamentary activity of the ConstituentCortes (Lisbon, 1821-1822) and the political independence of Brazil (1822). We seek,in this work, not only to focus on the clashes between representatives of both sides of the Luso-Brazilian Empire, but also to reflect on the contextual foundations that composed the sociopolitical framework of the early 1820s. In this way, we understand that the events of the listedperiod–that is, the Liberal Revolution of 1820 in Porto, the return of D. João VI to Portugal, the Lisbon Constituent Cortes, and the Brazil’s independence –are the result of a process of socio-political experiences
