ABSTRACT In Brazil, two tick species are mainly involved in public health and livestock issues: Amblyomma sculptum and Rhipicephalus microplus, respectively. Nootkatone, a sesquiterpenoid isolated from Chamaecyparis nootkatensis, has been described in the literature as an environmentally friendly alternative method of control, with repellent and toxic action against different insect and tick species from the Northern Hemisphere. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of nootkatone on the in vitro mortality of R. microplus and A. sculptum. Different dilutions of nootkatone (0.5, 1, 2, 5 and 10%) were used on instars of both tick species. In A. sculptum engorged larvae, unfed nymphs, and unfed adults, 2% nootkatone resulted in 95% mortality in almost all tests. An in vitro mortality rate of 95% was observed for larvae and engorged females of R. microplus with 1% and 0.5% nootkatone, respectively. Additionally, 5% and 10% nootkatone were at least 97% effective against engorged larvae, unfed nymphs, and unfed adults of A. sculptum and larvae and engorged females of R. microplus. This was the first study to use nootkatone against ticks from Brazil and the data suggest that nootkatone has great potential as a tool for tick control.

ABSTRACT In the present study, we use morphological data and DNA barcodes to describe a new species, i.e. Monatractides corsicus sp. nov. from Corsica, France. The new species belongs to the M. stadleri-complex which includes at least four distinct genetic lineages in the Western Palaearctic. Morphologically, the new species can be identified on the basis of a comparatively large palp, thick chelicera and the colour pattern of the dorsal shield. Moreover, we present the first DNA barcoding data for M. latissimus (K. Viets, 1936) and M. lusitanicus (Lundblad, 1941). http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:461D9E10-3897-4CF0-9384-CC4A582E125A

ABSTRACT We describe a new species, Blattisocius trifuricpilus sp. nov., collected from polypore fungi on dead trees from Mengla County, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China. The new species can be distinguished from other species of the genus by the presence of 36 pairs of setae on the dorsal shield, of which 20 pairs of setae (j1, j3, z3, z4, z6, s3-s6, r3, Z1-Z5, S1-S5) are relatively stout and trifurcate, opisthogastric setae JV5 relatively stout and trifurcate, and the peritreme reaching anteriorly to level of j2. A key is presented to the seven recognizable Chinese species of the genus Blattisocius. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:EB8FEC91-7831-4BF0-B13F-88964F795B31

ABSTRACT The mites of the genus Dendrolaelaps Halbert (Digamasellidae) from Guilan province in Northern Iran were investigated. A total of twelve species were determined. Dendrolaelaps lignicolus n. sp. is described and illustrated based on adult females collected from a rotten stump of Persian ironwood (Parrotia persica) in Rasht County, Saravan Forest Park. Moreover, Dendrolaelaps brevipiloides Hirschmann & Wiśniewski 1982, D. latior, D. markewitschi, D. paradoxa, D. punctatulus, D. saprophilus and D. stammeriformis Hirschmann and Wiśniewski, 1982 are new species records for Iran. A checklist and a key for identification of the subgenera and species of Dendrolaelaps in Iran is also provided. ABSTRACT The known chigger fauna of Argentina comprises 17 species organized in the families Trombiculidae (10) and Leeuwenhoekiidae (7). The present study describes a new species of Eutrombicula with drawings, phase contrast microscopy images, and SEM images. This chigger was collected parasitizing a vicuna in Abra Pampa City, Jujuy Province. It is the first time a chigger from Argentina has been collected from the family Camelidae. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:48F5F4EE-27CD-4FB5-959D-6ED3137D84C5

ABSTRACT In this paper, two new species of Proctolaelaps Berlese are described. P. vanharteni sp.n. is described from Cape Verde, and P. zaheri AboShnaf & Moraes, n. sp., from Egypt. The second of these species had been inadvertently characterized in detail by AboShnaf & Moraes as P. pygmaeus (Müller). Additionally, Proctolaelaps bickleyi (Bram) is first reported from South Africa. The type species of the genus P. productus Berlese, as well as P. aegyptiacus Nasr (new senior synonym of P. debensis Jordaan and Loots) and P. bickleyi are complementarily described. A key to the Proctolaelaps species reported so far from Africa is given. Publication registration http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org.pub:40EC4509-4A1B-4B5E-9680-748AE8DD3993. ABSTRACT Two new species of Blattisociidae mites, Lasioseius triplax sp. nov. and Lasioseius verruciger sp. nov., are described from females found in phoretic association with the mycophagous erotylid beetle Triplax russica (Linnaeus) and under the bark of dying conifers, respectively, both from southwestern Slovakia. The new species are unusual in having reduced sclerotization of the posterior part of the sternal shield. Only a few species of Lasioseius Berlese have this character state, the purpose and possible function of which are unknown. An identification key for species with reduced sclerotization of the sternal shield is presented. Lasioseius allii Chant is firstly reported from Slovakia, and some notes on the morphology of this and related species are given. for publication: http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:61410D92-6C52-47AD-B395-8F14D88EAA52 for Lasioseius triplax: http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:91EB66A2-DF6F-4134-8489- F7AAE4019FC1 for Lasioseius verruciger: http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:758ECDE2-C0B7-481C-8A40-427149722455
