This article focuses on the study of factors that influence the quality and adequacy of terminology translation within the framework of scientific aerospace engineering discourse, taking into account the rapid development of these industrial fields, the emergence of numerous scientific and technical terms, and the lack of full-scale English-Ukrainian term glossaries. Regarding the systematization of genres of scientific discourse, we have singled out primary, secondary and marginal genres. It is the marginal genres that combine the typical features and properties of other scientific discourse genres. The research relies on semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic analyses of terms. Besides, to translate them properly one must take into acount linguistic and extra-linguistic translational features. These factors make it difficult to translate texts on rocketry and aircraft design etc. from English into Ukrainian. Linguistic factors include perfect knowledge of English (upper-interediate and advanced), knowledge of Ukrainian language norms, avoidance of Ukrainian and Russian language interference, ability to find the right equivalent in the dictionary based on syntagmatic and paradigmatic contexts, great ability to use linguistic guesswork when translating compound terms with more than two components, and the knowledge of stylistic, syntactic and morphological translation transformations. Extralinguistic factors include background knowledge of aerospace engineering, general knowledge of geopolitics and political situation, knowledge of ergonomic terms and specifics of English headlines. It has also been found that besides linguistic and extralinguistic factors, one must consider personal factors, including attentiveness and vigilance, translator’s interest in the scientific field, and the ability to use the Internet services and resources.
