The author presents various sources for researching the genealogy of Jewish families. The basic documents are record books, but also censuses, court and tax documentation. They often complement each other, recreating for us the history of the inhabitants of Galicia. Books of births, deaths and marriages, which have been preserved in many record districts of former Galicia, are particularly important. The specificity of entries in these sources presented in the article allows them to be understood and facilitates the search. It is conditioned by Jewish tradition and religion. Many archives were destroyed during World War II, which makes work difficult for researchers of Jewish genealogy. The author points to documents and websites that can help in researching one’s family’s past, also during the Holocaust.

The Polish Underground Movement Study Trust in London is one of the most distinguished scientific and archival institutions in the West. It was founded by the leading soldiers of the Polish Underground State in February 1947. The article discusses individual archival collections deposited in the London institution. The Polish Underground Movement Study Trust contains a considerable amount of biographical documentation. It is characterized by great diversity and uniqueness. The article describes the characteristics of personal and property collections and teams: Verification Committees and BI Reports.

In contemporary Poland, the concept of a digital archive has developed as a digital repository that publishes archives on the Internet, which is a kind of virtual copy of the archive; its features, such as the ability to freely shape it and availability are typical features of virtual creations. The largest digital archives in terms of resources published on the Internet include the project of the National Digital Archives, the Polish Genealogical Society and the Central Archives of Historical Records. About 11 million digital photos have been presented on the website of the Polish Genealogical Society, mainly records and marital status records, largely organized in terms of content according to their historical nature, with a search engine according to the geographical criterion and with extensive indexes. The „Geneteka” index search engine covers approximately 31 million records from the 16th to the 21st century. This repository is an example of how a digital archive can creatively develop the basic goals of traditional archives: collecting, storing, processing and sharing archives.

An in-depth analysis of egodocumentary sources, which include the will, hides a huge amount of information from the researchers, but the historian must take into account the fact that the information contained in the sources is incomplete, sometimes doubtful, and sometimes completely false and biased. This is due not only to the bad will of the testators, but also the conditions in which this type of documents was created and the purpose it was intended to serve. Despite assurances of good mental state, the moribund were sometimes unaware of the content of their writings, which, after their death, became an occasion to question the validity of the wills. It happened that the testers forgot to mention the name of the wife or husband, the order of relationships, the number of children, not to mention the knowledge about the fate of adult offspring with whom they did not maintain contact for various reasons. Hence, all biographical data taken from this type of sources requires checking and comparison with other available material.

The article deals with one of the most controversial and discussed topics on genealogical forums, which are the principles of the functioning of church archives and access to their records. The text aims to introduce the reader to the functioning of these archives based on the legal basis and the model of operation introduced in the Archdiocese Archives in Poznań. In addition, it is to help understand the specifics of church archives, show the differences between such institutions and state archives, and facilitate navigation through the resource and record books. For this purpose, the structure and history of the Archive resource was presented. The article also discusses in detail the changes that took place in the entries of record books from the 16th to the 20th century in the area of the Archdiocese of Poznań and Gniezno.

An interest in the fate of ancestors influences the overall way we perceive the past, above all, how we understand history through their prism. The title fashion for genealogy is inextricably linked with technological development - quick access to historical sources published on the Internet. Provision of this type of service has become an important element of the global economy. Global genealogy websites have billions of user profiles, indexed and digitized documents in their databases. Genealogists around the world organize into groups, associations, to structure the process by which genealogical information is more accessible. Genealogical DNA tests are also becoming more and more popular - they help to go back much further in the family history than the preserved written sources allow. Genealogy is also a field of science that is increasingly present in traditional media as well as in scientific discourse - it is the subject of symposia, conferences and scientific publications both local and international. The Polish market of genealogy services is much smaller than the American market, but also consists of thriving organizations and commercial companies. The aim of the article is to present the Wieliczka record books. The source material is most often used for genealogical research, therefore the most important properties and research possibilities of record books are presented. These metrics have so far been used for in-depth scientific research by a small number of researchers. The most important information about the books and the content of the metrics will be presented. In addition, sources are presented that can supplement the information found in the records. In the last part of the work, we list – subjective – the most common threats from Wieliczka record books that people looking for their ancestors in Wieliczka will encounter.

The formation of the Polish Protestant community in the 19th-century Kingdom of Poland is a very interesting and relatively unknown phenomenon. Among Lutherans, coming mainly from German countries, a milieu was born that consistently strove to promote Polishness among Protestants and Protestantism among Poles. It is all the more interesting as its representatives operated under the Russian partition, and the assimilation processes intensified after the fall of the January Uprising. The article presents the profiles of Polish Evangelical leaders (Leopold Otto and Juliusz Bursche) and outlines the history of the Church. It also includes a short overview of the sources of genealogical information – record books, church press, cemeteries, and publications. Although the Evangelical- Augsburg Church in Poland is currently sparse, more and more people, both Protestants and Catholics, Poles and foreigners, are interested in learning about the biographies of their Evangelical ancestors.
