The latest researches, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reinforce the idea that most of the accidents are not caused by car failures, the driver behavior proved to be more harmful [13]. Driving too fast for the weather conditions can cause a catastrophe. In order to improve the driver's visibility the automotive companies developed headlights based on LED or Laser devices which increase the directivity, the power and the efficiency of the beam. In this paper we present some principles which can lead to the development of a system able to estimate the visibility distance in foggy weather conditions using the light scattering property. In case of bad weather conditions, the system has to notify the drivers and to recommend a speed which ensures traffic safety. To be sure that the visibility estimation is really valid for a human being we tested the human visual system in different fog conditions using an eye chart. Measuring the visual acuity we realized a link between human and automated visibility.

All parents should keep a close eye on their children’ capacity to concentrate because this is a great indicator that the kid might be suffering from different behavioral disorders, stress, anxiety or even trauma and depression. In the last decades, numerous doctors, scientists, and engineers have dedicated their lives to developing technology that focuses on detecting and analyzing ocular movements. These efforts have resulted in a vast amount of studies that correlate human behavior, memory, and neurology with how people move their eyes. The proposed application is meant to be used by children with attention deficit and their therapist, who should be able to monitor their condition.

This paper presents a method used for sizing a hybrid photovoltaic-wind microgrid with battery storage and grid connection with given meteorological data and consumer load characteristic. An application is developed to determine the optimal number of solar panels and batteries. For this purpose loss of power supply probability, LPSP, and levalized cost of energy, LCE, is used. The lowest LCE will be the indicative for the number of solar panels and for the number of batteries. The analysis demonstrates that the cost of energy paid for a kWh decrease with the increasing number of households involved.

Starting with the late 1990s, more and more visual recognition tasks are being automated. The focus is around removing the human from the loop, thus increasing the overall process efficiency. Modern advancements in artificial intelligence allow us to start to automate tasks performed by specialized human beings, such as: visual inspection and defect detection. In this visual inspection process a deep convolutional neural network is used to fulfill the task of visual inspection of a bearing mounting process and classify it into 2 classes: good or faulty. This process is characteristic to the automotive sector. After training the CNN model the performances are evaluated by running the classification part of the algorithm on the validation dataset. No special training constraints are used and no special training method are used: everything is open source, as the goal of this research is to prove the viability for smaller companies to use AI in their everyday processes, in order to improve the overall business efficiency. The model can replace the human operator in the loop by having a mean accuracy of 90% and a mean processing time of 8 seconds. The overall cost of this application was well under the general market price for this kind of solutions. A path for further improvements is also demonstrated.

RPA (Robotic Process Automation) is a software-based solution that automates rule-based business processes such as repetitive actions, structured data, and predictable outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how a multi-channel chatbot can be created and implemented, as well as how Robotic Process Automation (RPA) may be connected with the chatbot to automate a business process, therefore easing the repetitious labor of a business's workers. The goal is to let consumers to explore and purchase products through chatbot, and then send an email with an invoice to the sales department and the customer. The whole process outlined above should be automated, with no human agents interacting until specifically requested. To be completed, the process must operate consistently across all channels, and all components must communicate and exchange information.

Implementing Demand Response Using Smart Home IoT Devices 使用智能家居物联网设备实现需求响应

Households and buildings became smarter due to IoT devices and as a result home and building automation solutions are operational almost everywhere. The proliferation of renewable distributed energy resources (DER), despite having a positive impact on the carbon footprint, created important operational problems for power systems. The intermittent nature of DER does not only make them unsuitable for controlling the grid but contributes to its instability. In order to accommodate more renewables into the grid there is a real need to increase its flexibility and therefore maintain its stability. Historically, balancing services and technological ancillary systems have been provided mainly by thermal and gas fired power plants, having an obvious negative impact on the carbon footprint. A possible alternative to ensure balancing and regulation might be the extensive use of demand response (DR) measures. The access to aggregated energy data acquired from a large number of households or office buildings enables the implementation of DR based on the intrinsic capabilities of the connected smart home devices, like power monitoring smart switches or plugs. After reviewing the existing situation in Europe related to DR measures and some information concerning the use of technologies like blockchain in the energy sector, this paper will present the concept of a smart home electric energy data aggregation platform (SHEEDAP), to be applied as a new type of power grid flexibility provider. As a novelty, the platform will use sub-metering devices from the smart home environment in order to perform DR actions.

Wind energy conversion systems have become a central point in the research of renewable energy sources. The paper provides a possible application of the monitor and control systems for an electric generator driven by a Savonius type vertical axis wind turbine. The application is intended for individual or rural homes were the connection to national power grid is an expensive solution. The conceived monitor and control system is desired to be a low-cost solution for small-scale wind turbines.

Interstitial lung diseases represent a large category of disorders which carry significant mortality burden at a worldwide level. Diffuse lung diseases are usually diagnosed and followed-up using radiological methods, mainly computed tomography and radiography. Those radiation-based procedures expose the patient and the environment to an accumulative radiation and can also produce complication after contrast medium injection, renal injury. Transthoracic ultrasound (TUS) examination represents a viable alternative to evaluate patients with lung interstitial damage proven in multiple published studies. In this paper we aim to develop a new method for diffuse lung diseases diagnosis and follow-up based on pleural line morphology evaluation in a lung TUS standardized examination through image analysis and artificial intelligence algorithms which is non-invasive, cheap, accessible and radiation free diagnosis method able to aid physicians in an accurate and non-invasive manner.

We present the implementation of a visual localization and control system of a low cost quadcopter for an application in a remote electronic laboratory. The issues addressed are: environment exploration in remote laboratories, autonomous visual inspection of planar objects, and autonomous homing and landing. The localization system is composed of two complementary visual approaches: (i) a visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) system, and (ii) a homography-based localization system. We extend the application scenarios of the first system by allowing close range inspection of a planar electrical instrument and autonomous landing. Experiments conducted in a remote laboratory workspace are presented. They prove the performance of the proposed system in terms of real-time and robustness.
