. The work is devoted to the problem of the origin of the Yakut olonkho in the works of researchers. The relevance of the study lies in the systematization and periodization of various scientific hypotheses on this topic, not previously carried out. The author identifies the pre-revolutionary, Soviet, modern (post-Soviet) periods of the study of the genesis of the Yakut epic. The works of the Yakutologists V. L. Seroshevsky, P. A. Oyunsky, G. A. P. I. V. Pukhov, G. U. Ergis, N. V. V. M. E. S. V. N. Ivanov, well-known Russian folklorists V. Y. Propp, E. M. Meletinsky, V. M. Zhirmunsky are considered. We came to the conclusion that all scholars of the olonkho belong to the early types of the epic, reveal its connection with the epic of the Turkic-Mongolian peoples of Siberia, and connect the time of its occurrence with the ethnogenesis of the Yakuts. Given the uncertainty of the ethnogenesis of the Sakha people, it seems difficult to establish the dating, the stages of the formation of olonkho.

. In this article, the author compares Altais and Buryats tales on the topic:brother and sister in the context of texts of other Turkic-Mongol peoples. Noting the distinctive moments, the author uses the example of specific texts to reveal the General course of the plot, which coincides almost completely. In this regard, the author draws a conclusion about the common archaic roots of peoples that are not only historically, but also geographically distant from each other.

. For Tibetans, especially for the ones with a pastoral background, bardic performances represent a constant source of inspiration and identification. They establish continuity in preserving a Tibetan heritage. However, over the centuries they have tended to become a vehicle for carrying the ideologies of the rulers in power. Whether the oral performances of the Geser bards will cease to exist or whether their placement on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List in 2009 will successfully safeguard the transmission of the Tibetan Geser epic remains an open question. In the Tibetan Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China the orally reported sources remain manifold and the work on the publications of the many episodes of the epic continues. Therefore, it is certain that the Geser epic will retain its importance, even if it is yet to be seen which forms it will take on in the future.
