The article focuses on Luigi Pirandello’s Italian translation of Goethe’s Römische Elegien (1896, Livorno: Giusti). It presents the previous Italian translators and reviews how Pirandello’s version was received by his contemporaries. Its reception is examined through the writings of three reviewers (Tommaso Gnoli, Luigi Parpagliolo and R. – probably Ruggiero Bonghi), who demonstrate that the translation was favourably received in the Roman cultural environment close to Pirandello. The article then highlight the features that his contemporaries found most innovative and impressive impressive in Pirandello's translation.

The present article aims to propose an idea of translation not limited exclusively to the field of transposition of a text from a language to another one. Some examples of ‘border-text’ shall be presented; this kind of writing is characterized by the effects of reshuffling of languages, identities, experiences disseminated in the post-1989 Central European area. A particular attention shall be given to the translation dynamics of the contemporary cultural horizon through texts written by Tawada and Rakusa which are the object of analysis. The aformentioned authors live and work immersed daily in different languages and cultures, in which the translation process becomes a way of writing and questioning the traditional categories such as “border”, “homogeneity” and “monolingualism”.

The translator, in her/his activity, has always resembled Janus Bifrons, the god of transitions, passages and endings looking, simultaneously, to the past and the future . This is particularly the case of the translation of texts produced by women in the past centuries. In translating women’s writing other competences and skills are, in fact, necessary in order to better (re)present the revolutionary ideas concealed behind an apparently conventional use of language in their own time. In this contribution, the authoress illustrates the difficulties in translating, from English to Italian, the vindications for the right to education produced by some British women writers of the eighteenth century.

The aim of this article is to outline some theoretical problems related to the incompatibility of formal use of several Latin expressions present in English, Italian and Polish lexis as well as to propose solutions for facing practical cases of translation troubles based on the experience of the author gathered as academic, court translator and lay judge. The corpus shall be divided into the categories of lexemes utilized respectively in the European Union law such as (1) legal source texts, (2) procedural documents, (3) jurisprudence. The quoted examples aim to meet the initial assumption about the incompatibility as well as partial or non-equivalence of Latin terms among the examined study cases in selected representatives of Germanic, Romance and Slavonic languages.
