Paradigmi mitico-simbolici del potere per un’ermeneutica dell’ordine politico nel nostro tempo 我们这个时代政治秩序崩溃的力量的神话象征范例

Power escapes defnitions and categorizations; it must be analyzed, instead, in the specifc forms of relationship and manifestation, from a critical-hermeneutic perspective, in order to understand its symbolic nature and constitutive structure. For this aim, I propose the analysis of some fundamental mythical-symbolic paradigms: the contention between the brothers Cain and Abel, and the Zeus-Prometheus relationship in the myth of the same name. The two cases shed light both on the problem of the legitimization of political power, and on the analysis of the symbolic power/knowledge paradigm, which are the theoretical coordinates of ideology.

This paper examines the relationship between freedom and power from a feminist perspective. Arguing for a social constructivist approach to freedom that questions the givenness of subjectivity and desire, I argue for a concept of freedom that simultaneously accepts the importance the subject-generated choice and questions how far freedom can rely on such a conception.

La grande fracture de la politique moderne sur le pouvoir: Hobbes et la raison d’Etat 现代政治与权力的巨大鸿沟:霍布斯与国家理性

Modern political thought is crossed by a fundamental divide. This divide opposes the theorists of sovereignty since Bodin, on one side, and the current of conceptions about the reason of state since Botero, on the other. The two currents were born practically at the same time, in the last quarter of the sixteenth century. On the side of the thinkers on sovereignty, it is a question of thinking about political autonomy in relation to all other orders of society (religion, economy, various legal bodies, police, public order, etc.). Here the principal question concerns the formation and exercise of political will and its relation to the citizens. On the side of the thinkers on the reason of state, it is no longer political autonomy which is at the centre of reflection, but the relationship between politics and religion. On the other side, the political problem is centred on the question of the preservation of the state (more than the conditions of its acquisition or its growth) and the rules of government practice likely to lead to it. These are not only different but divergent visions of politics and the exercise of power, the implications of which are felt even in contemporary democracies.

This paper argues that populism is a celebration of the myth of sovereignty; it reaches this conclusion by focusing on the populist form of representation as embodiment, a strategy that promises to overcome the gap that mandate representation creates between the elected and the people. The paper shows that this solution ends up being worse than the problem it seeks to solve.

For Foucault, Freud – as Nietzsche and Marx – is not an author to put under exegesis, but a generator of discursivity that opened new possibilities for thinking. This article attributes the same role to Foucault. By reconstructing Foucault’s understanding of the father of psychoanalysis, it contributes to the history of political philosophy and at the same time to the political philosophy of the present.

The essay explores the relationship between religion and Rawls from the perspective of some issues that are central to his political project: political autonomy, public reason and the implications of the fact of pluralism for the development of the idea of decent peoples. Religion has a dual dimension in political liberalism, plural and singular. The problem of the liberal political transition is to allow these two dimensions to coexist harmoniously within the liberal political project.

The aim of this essay is to analyze the figure of conflict in Giambattista Vico’s Scienza Nuova, highlighting its epistemological function and its historical-political cogency. This conflict presents itself both as an epistemological means through which reason understands the process of community establishment, and as the effective force for the development of nations. In fact, the changing of times outlined by Vico takes the form of an asymmetrical conflict which proves to be socially significant to the extent that it allows the recomposition of the social body within an order marked by the recognition, albeit precarious, of equality.

This contribution proposes a reading of Guardini’s Das Ende der Neuzeit aimed at revealing the theory of modernity that it presupposes. Guardini embodies a third way between secularization and legitimacy. On the one hand, he recognizes a single sphere of the modern that can be explained with the paradigm of secularization. On the other hand, he empties this paradigm of meaning regarding other aspects of modernity, and this by virtue of an original reading of Christianity as a relationship between Revelation and the world - and not as an immutable and defined conceptual block.

From the outset, the emergency generated by the Covid-19 pandemic has had political and philosophical implications, as well as medical, social and economic ones. It has raised issues such as the relationship between security and freedom, between citizens and the state, between rights and obligations, and among democratic powers, as well as discussions about the current economic and environmental model of development. This article presents a review of the main interpretations and reflections on the pandemic proposed by political philosophers in Italy during more than a year of crisis.

The essay explores the work of Sergio Caruso, whose work moved from theories of justice to citizenship, from the notion of ideology to the role of intellectuals. I will retrace some of the fils rouges of Caruso’s production and adopt two main lenses of observation. First, his work will be presented as an example of immanent critique, and secondly, it will be analysed in the light of its more or less explicit normative outcomes.
