In this paper, a method of canceling and suppressing differential mode crosstalk noise signals caused by nonuniform coupling between two transmission lines in UTP (unshielded twisted pair) modular jacks is discussed. Differential mode crosstalk noise signals in balanced transmission lines in UTP modular jacks were suppressed by inserting auxiliary capacitances between balanced transmission line pairs which are closely located to each other. To verify the effectiveness of inserted capacitances, precisely calculated auxiliary capacitances were applied to 10 pin modular jacks which are used in a LAN (local area network) at 250 Mb/s with UTP cables. The NEXT (near end crosstalk) losses were measured to prove its applicability.

The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test for an aircraft system has no available and official standards or regulations in China. In connection with EMC test for a certain aircraft and its electric subsystems, we put forward a test program for aircraft AC/DC power supply system characteristics, electromagnetic emission, electromagnetic susceptibility, and electromagnetic environment and antenna coupling. We not only determine the EMC safety margin of the aircraft system from a system viewpoint, but also evaluate the EMC performance of some key airborne equipment from an equipment viewpoint.

In this paper, the ground bounce (GB) effect in PCBs is characterized and presented in both the power/ground and the trace/ground configurations. A generalized 2-D transmission line equation (GTLE) model is used to solve the problems. Simulation results confirm that GB is induced as a result of the resonant behavior. In certain situations, GB gives rise to white noise in parts of the PCB structure.

Studying electromagnetic scattering from a plane conductor containing slots terminated by microwave network is of great importance to some practical problems. In this paper, based on the original work, the influences of the terminated microwave-network on electromagnetic scattering characteristic of slots are studied. We also pay attention to different practical application cases. Results are given. Almost for every case, there is special impedance with which the scattering field strength is the largest.

A customised ultra-wide band E-field probe and H-field probe with wide band oscilloscope were used to test the electromagnetic field radiated from electrostatic discharge (ESD). Many tests were carried out by real charged human body discharge to the ground. The results show that the electric field in 10 cm by a human holding a metal pen with a potential of 2 kV discharge to ground is about 410 V/m and the magnetic field is about 28 A/m in the distance of 3 cm from the discharge. The band of the field is extremely wide, ranging from several MHz to above 1 GHz. The experiments also show that the amplitude of electric field radiated by ESD when a human holding a metal screwdriver discharging to the ground metal is many times larger than that of the human finger discharging directly to the ground. Electrostatic discharge is one of the most common harmful electromagnetic sources to electronic equipment in the office environment.

In this article, we discuss the audio or noise limits for telecommunication audio equipment and how to perform the test for it. Audio equipment always has some problems when it accepts a disturbance from outside, for example: there is noise when a telephone is disturbed by electromagnetic waves. So we must do audio evaluation in an immunity test. For the transient disturbance test, it is not easy to say which audio volume is suitable, because the noise or audio level will be very high during the EFT, surges, ESD etc. The audio evaluation is only performed in a continuous immunity test. In this article, we describe how to do audio test in RF electromagnetic field and RF common mode immunity test.

A new shaped subreflector geometry for EMC oriented Cassegrain system is presented. The idea is to deform the classical hyperboloidal surface to reduce the spillover and the crosspolarization. The high gain antenna obtained can be used as a test antenna to detect external noises or to reduce the cross-polarization in a telecommunication system. Experimental validations resume the excellent results obtained for a 60 cm antenna/80 mm subreflector system in the 37-40 GHz frequency range. Different kind of antennas have been designed and now produced.

A circuit configuration is proposed which decouples an IC from the peripheral power source circuit. Merit is extended both on the standard measurement of the the EMI driving power and also on the low EMI circuit design of printed circuit boards. The two-stage decoupling circuit is found effective. These discussions are now conducted on a lumped circuit base, which should be further extended to distributed-parameter systems because the electromagnetic system is intrinsically distributed and the limit of the upper frequency to be considered is actually open referring to actual electronics applications.

The absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) are essential to terminate the computational space when the finite difference time-domain (FDTD) method is applied to analyze electromagnetic (EM) problems. In this paper, we used two kinds of ABCs to calculate effective dielectric constant of a microstrip. The comparison of these results has shown the advantage and disadvantage of these two ABCs.
