Association of Sasang Constitutional Type with Bone Mineral Density, Osteopenia, and Osteoporosis Seung Ku Lee⋅Dae Wui Yoon⋅Jong Yeol Kim⋅Jin Kwan Kim⋅Hyeryeon Yi⋅ Sunghee Lee⋅Robert D. Abbott⋅Chol Shin Institute of Human Genomic Study, College of Medicine, Korea University Ansan Hospital Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science, College of Health Science, Jungwon University Constitutional Medicine and Diagnosis Research Group, Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine Department of Nursing, Korea Nazarene University Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Health Science, Kangwon National University Department of Pulmonary, Sleep and Critical Care Medicine, College of Medicine, Korea University Ansan Hospital College of Medicine, Korea University Object Although Taeeum and Soyang constitutional types have bigger body shapes and higher body mass index values than those with the Soeum, the relationship between the Sasang constitutional type and bone mass density is controversial and the association of osteopenia and osteoporosis remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between bone mineral density, osteopenia, and osteoporosis according to Sasang constitutional type. Methods A total of 2,508 participants were included in this study. Among the study participants, 1,396 had Taeeum type, 276 had Soeum type, and 836 had Soyang type, respectively. The relationships to bone mass density, osteopenia, and osteoporosis in those with Sasang constitutional type were estimated using logistic and linear regression models. Results Bone mass density was significantly higher in the order of Taeeum, Soyang, and Soeum group (p < 0.01). Soeum group in comparison with Taeeum or Soyang group was significantly associated with a high odds ratio for osteopenia and osteoporosis except in the hip and femoral neck in the comparison of Taeeum and Soeum group (p < 0.01). Moreover, the bone mass density of Soeum group decreased more rapidly as the age increased when compared with Taeeum and Soyang group. Conclusions Our findings may contribute to the early prevention and management of high-risk individuals with poor bone mass density, osteopenia, and osteoporosis using Sasang constitution medicine.

Predictive Models for Sasang Constitution Types Using Genetic Factors Hyo-Jeong Ban ・ Siwoo Lee ・ Hee-Jeong Jin Intellectual Information Team, Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, Senior Researcher Future Medicine Division, Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, Principal Researcher Intellectual Information Team, Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, Principal Researcher Objectives Genome-wide association studies(GWAS) is a useful method to identify genetic associations for various phenotypes. The purpose of this study was to develop predictive models for Sasang constitution types using genetic factors. Methods The genotypes of the 1,999 subjects was performed using Axiom Precision Medicine Research Array (PMRA) by Life Technologies. All participants were prescribed Sasang Constitution-specific herbal remedies for the treatment, and showed improvement of original symptoms as confirmed by Korean medicine doctor. The genotypes were imputed by using the IMPUTE program. Association analysis was conducted using a logistic regression model to discover Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP), adjusting for age, sex, and BMI. Results & Conclusions We developed models to predict Korean medicine constitution types using identified genectic factors and sex, age, BMI using Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Neural Network (NN). Each maximum Area Under the Curve (AUC) of Teaeum, Soeum, Soyang is 0.894, 0.868, 0.767, respectively. Each AUC of the models increased by 6~17% more than that of models except for genetic factors. By developing the predictive models, we confirmed usefulness of genetic factors related with types. It demonstrates a mechanism for more accurate prediction through genetic factors related with type.

Sasang Constitution May Act as a Risk Factor for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Yunyoung Kim ・ Tae-Yeol Kim ・ Soyoung Park ・ Eunsu Jang Department of Nursing, Andong National University Department of Health Medical Administration, Yeung Nam University College Graduate student, Department of Nursing, Kongju National University Department of Korean Medicine, Daejeon University In this study, we suggested indirect evidence of whether Sasang constitution(SC) could be a risk factor for Post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) among soldiers who participated in Vietnam war. The number of 199 subjects joined this study. We surveyed SC with KSー15 and PTSD with Korean Version of Impact of Event Scale-Revised questionnaires. A Chi-square test and a one-way ANOVA were performed according to SC type, and multiple logistic regression was used to produce odds ratios(ORs). Significant p was .05. The number(rate) of Taeeumin(TE), Soeumin(SE), and Soyangin(SY) types were 131(65.8%), 33(16.6%), and 35(17.6%) respectively. The score of PTSD in SE type(8.78±8.61) was significantly higher than those of SY(4.00±6.5) and TE types(3.65±6.78)(p=.001, SE>TE, SY, Scheffe). SE type was associated with increased PTSD prevalence compared with TE [OR 4.338; 95% CI 1.525-12.335, p<.01], and it was still associated with increased PTSD prevalence [OR 10.658; 95% CI 1.296-87.661, p<.05] after adjusting for age and weight. This study suggests that SC, particularly the SE type, might be significantly associated with PTSD and could be considered as a risk factor for PTSD.
001, SE>TE, SY, Scheffe)。

A Study on the Development of Diagnostic Index for the Ordinary Symptom of Soyangin Young Cho.Jun-Hee Lee Dept. of Korean Medicine, Graduate school, Kyung Hee Univ. Dept. of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, College of Korean Medicine, Kyung Hee Univ. Purpose This study was to develop and study ‘Diagnostic Index for the Ordinary Symptom of Soyangin’. Methods The main diagnosis and evaluation index symptoms of Soyangin were extracted based on Donguisusebowon and Clinical Practice Guidelines for Sasang Constitutional Medicine Symptomatology; CPG for soyangin. The selected ordinary symptoms were divided into 4 categories such as Exterior-Cold ordinary symptom (表寒素證), Exterior-Disease unfavorable’s ordinary symptom (表病逆證素證), Interior-Heat ordinary symptom (裏熱素證), Interior-Disease unfavorable’s ordinary symptom (裏病逆證素證) of Soyangin and translated into Korean. And the inclusion, importance and translation validity of major diagnosis and assessment indicators of Soyangin were surveyed online by a group of Sasang constitutional experts. Results & Conclusions 29 ordinary symptoms and pathological mechanism were selected from references and translated into 51 Korean symptoms. After inclusion yes or no survey by expert group, 45 symptoms were selected. The importance survey showed that ‘Have a soft stool’ of Exterior-Cold ordinary symptom indication, ‘(If you're stressed, if you're not in good health) Have a soft stool or diarrhea’ of Exterior-Disease unfavorable’s ordinary symptom, ‘The feces harden easily’ of Interior-Heat ordinary symptom and ‘(If you're stressed, if you're not in good health) Have an upset stomach’ of Interior-Disease unfavorable’s ordinary symptom were the most important. Finally, [Diagnostic Index for the Ordinary Symptom of Soyangin] was completed after survey of translation validity, reflection of individual opinions by the expert committee, and application of weighted value calculated from the importance survey.
