Reading Magical Realism in Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children for Supporting EFL Students’ Cross-Cultural Awareness 阅读拉什迪《午夜的孩子》中的魔幻现实主义对英语学生跨文化意识的培养

The present study explores the magical realism contents in the Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. It also aims to investigate the way the magical realism contents to be adapted and integrated into the cross-cultural understanding material to support the EFL students’ cross-cultural awareness.  The qualitative research method is employed for analysing the primary source by consulting it to the secondary sources. From the story, it is found that the struggle is available between two opposing structures in a mystical realist document, and one of them is working toward the development of a fantasy universe from the other. These are the worlds of fantasy and life, and they are all present and vying for the reader's interest. Thus, the study may deduce that Rushdie employs magical realist features such as time dilation and the introduction of myth, legends, and folklore. Rushdie has built something unique with Midnight’s Children, and Saleem is honestly attempting to tell the tale of his existence, and the life of the new country. Moreover, based on the contents found, the instructional activities can be designed by adapting the magic realism content found in the story to build the cross-cultural awareness of the Indonesian EFL students. Moreover, magic realism content can also be an alternative and variation on the language and cultural classes.

This determination aims to find out what difficulties exist in high school students, the lack of knowledge of writing is one of the great homeworks for educators especially in the Indonesian language, writing is a way to train students to create creative ways of thinking and expand vocabulary, research in writing assignments This poetry is expected to know the meaning of language style, imagery and the use of both in poetry writing, language style is semeotic in building signs in poetry, imagery is an image that builds the character of a writing so that it reaches the reader when writing poetry.

Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah apakah ada hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan diksi dan tanda baca dengan kemampuan menulis persuasi siswa kelas VIII semester genap SMP Negeri 10 Bandarlampung tahun pelajaran 2018/2019. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode korelasional. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: 1) Terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara penguasaan diksi dengan kemampuan menulis persuasi. koefisien korelasir = 0,483, sedangkan kontribusi yang diberikan variabel penguasaan diksi terhadap kemampuan menulis persuasi sebesar 23,329% kemudian sisanya 76,671% ditentukan oleh faktor/variabel lain; 2) Terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara penguasaan tanda baca dengan kemampuan menulis persuasi dengan koefisien korelasi r = 0,829, sedangkan kontribusi yang diberikan variabel penguasaan tanda baca terhadap kemampuan menulis persuasi sebesar 68,724% kemudian sisanya 31,276% ditentukan oleh faktor/variabel lain.; 3) Terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara penguasaan diksi dan tanda baca dengan kemampuan menulis persuasi. Dengan koefisien korelasi R= 0,848, sedangkan kontribusi yang diberikan sebesar  71,91% kemudian sisanya 28,09% ditentukan oleh variabel/factor lain. Hasil ini memberikan keterangan bahwa variabel penguasaan diksi dan tanda baca kuat pengaruhnya terhadap kemampuan menulis persuasi.

The conclusion: skill tex explanation prasiklus rates 79,25%, at siklus I score 96,83%, siclus II score 108,91. This study aims to describe Javanese mythology in Pramoedya Ananta Toer's story of Calon Arang. The method that will be used by researchers in this research is descriptive method. From the research results in the novel Cerita Calon Arang by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, there are three mythologies. First, belief in mantras, the second is offering rituals, and the third is ritual worship.

This research describes the structure and function of Lipstick Beauty Product advertisements on television. This study uses a discourse analysis approach, this type of research is qualitative. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis. The data source of this research is in the form of Lipstick Beauty Product advertisements on television, which contains the structure and function of the advertising language. The results of the study describe the structure of lipstick beauty product advertisements on television consisting of language functions contained in food and beverage product advertisements on television including: (a) information functions, (b) persuasive functions and to form a positive image of the product to potential consumers.

Penelitian ini tujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk alih kode dan campur kode, serta ingin melihat manfaat atau fungsi penggunaannya pada kegiatan pembelajaran di SMP Negeri 3 Lambu Kibang Tulang Bawang Barat. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk alih kode dan campur kode dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini  (1) observasi, (2) wawancara dan (3) teknik sadap. Hasil penelitian diperoleh data dari segi bentuk dan fungsi alih kode dan campur kode. Dari hasil klasifikasi bentuk data campur kode penggunaan bahasa Lampung dalam proses kegiatan pembelajaran yang diperoleh yaitu bentuk yang sering muncul adalah dari segi bentuk kata (24,13%) , frasa (13,79%) dan kalimat (26,72%) serta klausa dan singkatan tidak ditemukan sama sekali. Sedangkan hasil klasifikasi bentuk alih kode penggunaan bahasa Lampung yang sering muncul adalah dari bentuk kalimat sekitar (14,65%) dan kata, frasa, klausa serta singkatan tidak ditemukan sama sekali. Dari fungsi campur kode dan alih kode bahasa Lampung yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pemebelajaran di SMP Negeri 3 Lambu Kibang Tulang Bawang Barat yaitu untuk menjalin keakraban, memberikan penjelasan, penegasan kepada peserta didik serta memahami dan mengetahui materi lebih dalam bagi peserta didik.

Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk alih kode dan campur kode dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini  (1) observasi, (2) wawancara dan (3) teknik sadap. Hasil penelitian diperoleh data dari segi bentuk dan fungsi alih kode dan campur kode. Dari hasil klasifikasi bentuk data campur kode penggunaan bahasa Lampung dalam proses kegiatan pembelajaran yang diperoleh yaitu bentuk yang sering muncul adalah dari segi bentuk kata (24,13%) , frasa (13,79%) dan kalimat (26,72%) serta klausa dan singkatan tidak ditemukan sama sekali. Sedangkan hasil klasifikasi bentuk alih kode penggunaan bahasa Lampung yang sering muncul adalah dari bentuk kalimat sekitar (14,65%) dan kata, frasa, klausa serta singkatan tidak ditemukan sama sekali. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimanakah tindak tutur guru pada pembelajaran khususnya tindak tutur direktif pada pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk tindak tutur direktif pada pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data pada penelitian ini adalah tindak tutur yang digunakan guru dan siswa pada pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi, dan teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis heuristik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi tindak tutur direktif ditemukan pada saat pembelajaran di kelas. Tindak tutur direktif yang mendominasi pada tuturan guru dan siswa adalah direktif secara langsung.
本研究讨论的问题是,教师的学习语言行为,尤其是初中英语学习的直接行为。本研究旨在描述初中英语学习的直接语言形式。本研究采用描述性质的方法。本研究的数据来源是教师和学生在印尼语学习中使用的语言的实践。这项研究的数据收集技术采用了观测技术,在这项研究中使用的数据分析技术是启发分析技术。研究结果表明,定向言语功能可以在课堂学习中找到。教师和学生对言语的支配性行为是直接的指导。

Lately research on improving skills has become the focus of experts, one of the skills that must be supported by the ability to write poetry. This research supports to see the improvement of poetry writing skills through the method of giving assignments to elementary students. This type of research is classroom action research. The sample of this research is 6th grade students. The technique of collecting data uses observation sheets, interviews, tests and non-tests. Data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation and conclusions, then quantitative Likert scale analysis. The results obtained from this study about increasing students in poetry writing skills using the help method in accordance with the cycle that is applied then students increase a significant increase

This study discusses how the world view according to the author in Pramoedya Ananta Toer's novel Midah Simanis Bergigi Emas based on genetic structuralism which covers the world view and collective subject and the surrounding environment and how the author views Pramoedya Ananta Toer's Midah Simanis Bergigi Emas novel based on reality history linked to the literary work. The method used in this research is descriptive analytical method. The analysis technique performed is dialectical technique, namely, prioritizing coherent meaning. Dialectic techniques develop two kinds of concepts, namely "whole-part" and "understanding-explanation". Sources of data in this study used primary data sources in the form of a novel entitled Midah Simanis Bergigi Emas by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. the creation of the Midah Simanis Bergigi Emas novel was lifted from a social problem that affected it. Genetic elements of the work of Sasta are worldview, author's relationship with historical reality, author's biography, application of novel genetic structuralism. The world view on genetic structuralism in the Midah Simanis Bergigi Emas novel is lifted from a social problem that influences its views on God, the world, and humans. The world view that triggers the subject to identify world views is considered as one of the characteristics of the success of a literary work in genetic structuralism.
