Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) are developed from wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for acquiring and transmitting multimedia data such as images, audio and video streams and scalar data. Energy is the most critical factor in sensor networks. Its power requirement is satisfied by low capacity and low power battery. Reduction of communicated multimedia volume is an important step to reduce energy consumption in WMSNs because of the relatively huge amount of data collected by the nodes compared with scalar sensors. One of the algorithms in machine learning which can reduce the dimensionality is unsupervised learning Self Organizing Map (SOM) which typically performs dimensionality reduction through pattern clustering. In this work, an attempt has been made to reduce the amount of transmitted information in WMSNs using SOM in order to increase the lifetime of the network. The proposed design has shown an increase of 158.03 % in network lifetime compared to JPEG.

Today, DNA microarray technology is the most widely employed functional genomics approach in the bioinformatics domain. Disclosing the patterns masked in gene expression data provides an opportunity for an enhanced comprehension of functional genomics. But, the large number of genes and the intricate biological networks has greatly increased the challenges of comprehending and interpreting the resulting mass of data, which often contains millions of measurements. So, clustering techniques are used to tackle this challenge. Several clustering techniques have been developed and used in the analysis of microarray data. But, such techniques are not much efficient in analyzing the gene expression data. In this paper, we propose a novel efficient hybrid clustering approach based on quad tree data structure. In the hierarchical clustering process, the creation of the closest pair data structure in each level is an important time factor that provides the processing time of clustering. Here, a quad tree based data structure is used for identifying the closest pair elements. Thus, the proposed approach reduces the processing time successfully and offers a better analysis of gene expression data.

Currently there are many services that can assist the human being in his decision making. Many of these services provide aid as consistent as possible attending the characteristics and preferences of a user, which compiled results in a person's profile. Without profiles, systems could not provide a coherent aid to a user. In addition we can consider the profiles as the basis of recommendation systems. Paramount with cognitive helping systems, that provide decisions and recommendations these actions can more accurate and user driven. However, the profiles need to be updated over time, as a human being changes of preferences or beliefs, the profiles also need to adapt to dynamic environments. It is introduced a project that applies the Bayesian Networks and Case-Based Reasoning techniques to create and modulate user profiles in a coherent and dynamic way, using stochastic models and high-level event relations and characteristics to devise an accurate suggestion of activities the user can perform, being integrated in an Ambient Assisted Living Project.

The basic objective of the paper is to design a microstrip patch antenna for UWB wireless communication. The paper presents different types of microstrip antennas and compares their performance based on various characteristics so as to find the best antenna that can be used for 4-G communication. In this paper we have designed three antenna-C-shaped antenna, E-shaped antenna and 2F-shaped antenna. We have compared them on the basis of gain, return loss, radiation efficiency and VSWR. Conclusion has been drawn from the three designs and the antenna providing optimal performance is selected for further implementation.

The most important logic unit in asynchronous circuit is null conventional logic unit. A new technology called semi-static threshold gate is used for realization of null conventional logic unit. In this paper TH23 NCL gate is designed in both semi-static and static style. These are implemented in tsmc 180nm process with minimum 1.8V power supply. Power analysis is performed for both type of style. From this analysis it is clear that power dissipation of semi-static style is less as compared to static style.

The Mumbai (CR) Suburban train system, operating approx. 1470 trains & handling approx. 3.5 Lakh passengers daily, is a high density, high turnaround complex network which demands extremely fast & efficient train control system. The manual control is slow, tedious, stressful and doesn't involve holistic operational management. It is inadequate to handle the commuters' ever increasing demand of more trains / timely information. The TMS on Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus - Kalyan section accomplishes Train Control & Information dissemination automatically. The train movement data is picked up from the stations through high-speed modems and fed to a centralized UNIX server, which commands the train movement and triggers the passenger information system. This has increased punctuality & efficiency of train operations, facilitated running more trains and enhanced passenger satisfaction.

In this paper the relationship of a buyer-supplier is studied so as to determine the potential supplier. Analytical Hierarchy Process technique is used to rank the suppliers. Decision makers at a service firm supplying products and processes to the steel industry worldwide, through an empirical study help identify factors that affect supplier selection procedure. Critical parameters for supplier evaluation and selection are assessed through a structured interview with top management of the service firm.

This paper presents a prediction based neural networks approach for stock returns. An autoregressive neural network predictor is used to predict future stock returns. In this predictor, the differences between the values of the series of stock returns and a specified past value are the regression variables. Various error metrics have been used to evaluate the performance of the predictor. Experiments with real data from National stock exchange of India (NSE) were employed to examine the accuracy of this method.

Spectrum sensing is an essential concept in Cognitive Radio (CR) systems. It exploits the inefficient utilization of radio frequency spectrum without causing destructive interference to the licensed/primary user communication. In recent past, most of the studies on spectrum sensing are focused on cooperative/multinode detection approaches. However, they are confined to the detection of signals in a single frequency band or narrow band. In order to improve the opportunistic throughput, the CR must sense the signals in multiple bands or wideband. This paper presents a wideband spectrum sensing technique based on energy measurement in each sub band. The simulation result shows that the wideband sensing algorithm detects primary user (PU) signal upto −8dB average SNR with sample size 256, for 8 nodes in cooperation. It is able to detect only upto 0dB average SNR for singe node detection with sample size 64 with detection probabilty Pd ≥ 0.9, and false alarm probability Pf ≤ 0.01. We have also implemented the wideband spectrum sensing in Xilinx Virtex-4 (XC4VSX35-FFG668-10) Field programmable Gate Arrays.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have many distinct characteristics which distinguish them from other wireless networks. WSNs are highly distributed networks, where cooperative caching can play a major role in handling the request effectively. This helps WSNs in alleviating the situations of non availability of data, and reduces the requirement of wireless bandwidth, storage and energy. In this paper, we present a scheme called global cluster cooperation for wireless sensor networks (GCCS) for caching in wireless sensor networks. GCCS scheme uses a cache discovery algorithm to find the node who has cached the queried data item. GCCS also employs cache admission control, cache consistency, cache replacement mechanism to improve the overall performance of the scheme. Simulation experiments show that GCCS mechanism achieves significant improvements in byte hit ratio and average query latency in comparison with other caching strategies.
