The present investigation was carried out to assess the knowledge level of post graduate female students towards green apparel and textiles in an agricultural university of Kumaon region of Uttarakhand during the year 2013-14. Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar was selected purposively because of sufficient strength of students in the PG courses and easy accessibility of researcher to this place. Total 30 students were selected from three colleges as respondents. The respondents had medium level of pre-knowledge whereas the post-knowledge level of students had high because of awareness communication by researcher among students, it means knowledge gain was present. Independent Variables had impact on knowledge level of the respondents.

Wetland agro-ecosystem of Khan Sarovar and its surrounding area have provided habitat for the seven species of Ardeidae family. The Ardeidae member-Cattle Egret ( Babulcus ibis ) were dominated and common in this habitat. The Cattle Egret species seen in maximum (980) number where as Black-crowned Night Heron ( Nyctocorax nycticorax) seen in minimum (259) number. Highest relative abundance (21.16%) seen in Cattle Egret and lowest relative abundance (5.59%) seen in Black-crowned Night Heron. North Gujarat is a prime habitat for residence and breeding of the Ardeidae family. Cattle Egret became associated species to agricultural practice of the farmer. It is hoped that this study would provide a preliminary database for the Ardeidae family of this area, for further research.

ABSTRACT: A new application of the “blood glucose meter” is developed, aimed to distinguish untreated fresh meat from that untreated but frozen, using the post-slaughtered blood glucose concentration as parameter.  This factor is affected by the enzymatic activity of  the glycogen phosphorylase (GP), one of the enzymes involved in the muscle transformation of glycogen into glucose, that has an early post-mortem increment of the activity, followed by a gradual diminution. The capacity of freezing to stop GP, and then to alter the concentration of glucose into the blood extracted from the meat is used as discriminating factor in the analysis.

ABSTRACT: The paper reports 20 plant taxa belonging to 19 species, 18 genera and 12 families of angiosperms  used for combating common human afflictions in tribal communities of Dhule district. The tribes such as Bhil, Pawara, Kokani, Mavachi, etc. depend on bioresources for their sustenance and medicinal purposes. This paper communicates only plant species which are generally used in their diet but having also medicinal significance. Majority of the taxa are under  cultivation, in thier house-gardens, whereas a  few are found wild in their vicinity. Various parts e.g. leaves, sprouts, root tubers, fruits, inflorescences, etc. find place in their dietary preparations , but consumed understanding also their medicinal utilities. As many as 14 different human diseases or complaints are cured. Their doses or recipes, if any , have been mentioned after careful enquiries  during our ethnobotanical surveys. This is an attempt to point out additional potentialities of dietary plant resources.

A new medico-ethno-botanical report of Alpinia galanga Will. (Zingiberaceae) used by Chakma tribe from Tripura in North east India is presented in the communication for the treatment of painful menstruation and at the time of child birth to induce labour pain in case of inadequate labour pain and to promote expulsion of placenta in case of retain placenta. The claim is new in relation to reporting and enlightened a new direction for ethnopharmacological validation since rhizome of the plant have already reported for various ethnobotanical uses from North east India and pharmacological activities such as antifungal, antileishmanial, antimicrobial, antigiardial, antidermatophytic, antidiabetic, antiamoebic, antimalarial, anticancerous, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antioxidant, antibacterial and neuroprotective activities. But none of the reports available is corroborative to the present claim which is supported by field observation. Comprehensive review of reported ethnobotany and ethnopharmacology is done to justify the uniqueness of the present claim.

ABSTRACT: Types of fences, fencing practices, plant species used for fencing in different land  uses,  and  reason  for  preferring  particular  species  were  assessed  by interviewing the fence owners and by field visits in hilly area of Sirsi taluk in Uttara Kannada district. Out of twenty species used for fencing in the study area, 11 were mainly considered for fencing and planted; 9 wild species used for fencing are not planted. Agave sisalana and Duranta plumieri are planted extensively either as single species or mixed with others along the trench-cum- mound fence of the betta (leaf manure forests) and bena lands. Many useful species  without  spines  or  thorns  are  planted  along  the  border  of  tenured properties.  As  compared  to  other  studies,  number  of  species  observed  and benefits  derived  from  the  fences  were  less.  Options  for  meeting  the requirements  of  fencing  poles,  fodder,  green  manure  and  fuel  wood; enhancing ecological, economic and environmental services from fences, and reducing  pressure  on  forests  by  choosing  suitable  species  for  planting  on fences are discussed.
