This article explores connections between construction of gender roles, family models and community-building processes in soap opera narratives. The underlying research hypothesis maintains that construction of gender roles and family models in soap operas influences values around which a sense of community is constructed. Using textual analysis as methodology and an intercultural approach, this study compares and contrasts British and American soap operas. This approach allows to set out two contrasting models and investigate whether and to what extent Catalan soap operas adhere to one of them by proposing an original analysis of selected characters and storylines from a corpus of Catalan drama serials. This article also queries in which ways Catalonia’s situation as a stateless nation influences a sense of community construction in Catalan soap operas.

The objective of this article is to define, contribute and analyse to what is called nowadays Latin American electronic literature. Under a predominant global visual culture and following the visual poetry tradition, we aim to define these technopoetics – what –, the reasons to study them – why – and the possibility to develop a method – how. Particularly, we analyse Tatuaje (2014), a work that belongs to the Latin American field regarding the specific context of production and diffusion in this region.

This article sheds some light on the language change – from Spanish to Catalan – that took place in Pere Gimferrer’s work, one of the most acclaimed living poets in Spain. Specifically, the paper tries to analyse the political consequences of writing in Catalan during the Spanish transition form Franco’s dictatorship to democracy.

What we know about the horizon of possibilities in the writers’ discourse is largely influenced by two relevant scholars studies who defined literature as a field in which many pressures converge. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the aims and pressures that have Harkaitz Cano has to cope with when writing about the Basque context. In the aforementioned discussion I thoroughly identify different cycles of literary recreation by taking into consideration three essential stages: first, reflections from a novel’s main figure, secondly, an essay on artist and character building and finally, conversions based on metaliterature. To conclude, the single most striking observation to emerge from the analysis might be the correlation between the artist’s necessity and impossibility to represent reality around him.
