Introduction: Nurses have important ethical and legal responsibilities regarding the prevention, diagnosis, and treat-ment of child abuse and neglect (CAN). This study was conducted to examine nursing students’ levels of diagnosing the symptoms and risks of CAN. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 324 nursing students studying at the nursing faculty of a university between April and May 2019. A “Student Information Form” and the “Scale of Diagnosing Symptoms and Risks of CAN” were used for data collection. Results: Participating in the study the mean age was 20.3±1.5. There was a statistically significant difference between being a 4 th grader, receiving training on CAN, encountering a case or suspicion of CAN, and being aged 20 and over, and the mean score on the scale of diagnosing symptoms and risks of CAN (p<0.05). Discussion and Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that the level of knowledge of nursing students about defining the symptoms and risks of CAN was not sufficient. It is seen that receiving education on CAN positively affects the ability to identify the symptoms and risks of CAN.

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most important morbidity and mortality reasons worldwide. The purpose of our study is to evaluate physician-diagnosed COPD epidemiology according to age groups. Methods: ICD10 J44.0-9 diagnoses codes in the database of Turkish Social Security Institution between 2007 and 2016 was checked through. Distribution of COPD through age groups (40–49, 50–59, 60–69, 70–79, and 80 years and older) among male and female population still alive in 2016 was calculated. Results: 56.7% of 3,168,459 patients with average age of 62.53±15.07 were males. It was determined that 3.2% prevalence in female age group of 40–49 increased up to 23.1% in the age of 80+, 4.2% prevalence in male age group of 40–49 increased up to 35.3% in the age of 80+. In total, it increased from 3.7% to 27.7% in the same group of ages. Rate of the patients between the ages of 40–69 was calculated as 66% of the total number of patients. Discussion and Conclusion: As a result, physician-diagnosed COPD prevalence in Türkiye has an increasing trend by age both in male and female population. One out of each four individuals over the age of 80 years is diagnosed with COPD. Such an evaluation shows that COPD is more frequently in older ages. However, it is not correct to limit COPD as an advanced age disease, since the majority of the patient population is 70 years and under.

Introduction: Studies have found that sexual minorities, including gay and bisexual men, have more mental health problems than the heterosexual population. The aim of this study is to examine the prevalence of depression in gay and bisexual men and its relationship with some socio-demographic variables. Methods: Participants were recruited from groups on social media such as “Facebook,” “Instagram,” and an LGBT app. Only homosexual and bisexual men were included in the study. Each participant completed the personal information form and the Beck Depression Inventory. Results: It was found that 28.7% of the 418 homosexual and bisexual men included in the study had mild depression, 29.7% had moderate depression, and 9.1% had severe depression. No statistically significant difference was found between the depression rates of homosexual and bisexual men. Discussion and Conclusion: At the end of the study, it was determined that the rate of depression in homosexual and bisexual men was higher than in the general population. Smoking, alcohol, and substance abuse rates are also higher in this group than in the general population. The limitations of this study are that only gay and bisexual men were included in the study, and there was no control group.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate associations between hepatosteatosis (HS) with computed tomography severity score (CT-SS) and survival of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients attending the hospital. Methods: Our study was a retrospective analysis of 435 reverse transcription polymerase-chain reaction-positive COVID-19 patients (aged ≥ 18 years) who attended our hospital between September and December 2021. The patient’s chest CT parenchymal findings and CT-SSs were reported. For quantitative analysis, HS was defined if hep-atic-to-splenic attenuation ratio (CTL/S)<1. In very fatty livers, we defined the hyperdense appearance of vascular structures compared to liver parenchyma as “pseudocontrast sign (PCS).” We divided patients into three groups based on the hepatic attenuation comparison of vascular attenuation. Group 1: no HS, Group 2: HS without PCS, and Group 3: HS with PCS. Results: 210/435 (48.3%) patients were included in Group 1, 184/435 (42.3%) in Group 2, and 41/435 (9.4%) in Group 3. The Mean CTL/S of Group 3 was 0.56±0.14, which was significantly lower than the other two groups (p<0.001). There was a very significant (p<0.001) negative correlation between CT-SS and CTL/S. There was no significant difference between HS groups with intensive care unit (ICU) admission (p=0.27) and mortality (p=0.64). In multivariate Cox regression analysis, HS with PCS was an 11-fold (p<0.001) risk factor for shortening the time from hospital admission to death and 3-fold (p=0.035) for shortening the time from ICU admission to death. Discussion and Conclusion: In our study, HS with the PCS was significantly associated with CT-SS but not with overall mortality. Consequently, this sign may be an independent indicator of shorter survival times among patients who died. However, multicenter studies are needed in a large patient population.

Introduction: Various studies have demonstrated a clear link between mucosa-adherent Escherichia coli and colorectal cancer (CRC). This in silico study aims to identify commonly differentially expressed genes in CRC cells treated with distinct E. coli strains, regardless of their pathogenicity. Methods: The raw data from the GEO database were normalized with the Affy package in the R software. We used computational methods (limma analysis, linear regression analysis, hierarchical clustering, and gene set enrichment analysis) to identify the transcriptome alterations induced by E. coli O:157.H7 and E. coli K-12 strains. Results: Out of the 80 genes that were significantly differentially expressed in both E. coli-treated groups, only three genes (HIST1H4E, JUN, and TMEM267) demonstrated a high correlation (r>0.9) with the incubation time. TMEM267 is downregulated as the incubation time increases whereas HIST1H4E and JUN become upregulated. In addition, we determined nine common genesets that were significantly enriched in the Caco2 cell line after treatment either with E.coli O:157.H7 or K-12 strains. Discussion and Conclusion: In this study, the changes in gene expressions resulting from the treatment of colon cancer cells with different E. coli strains were investigated. These findings highlight the potential impact of E. coli on cancer development and suggest that certain genes may play a role in mediating the effects of E. coli in the context of CRC. Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and specific pathways involved in the interactions between E. coli and cancer cells.

Introduction: Obesity is one of the most critical health problems in the world. Obesity is in the etiology of various chronic diseases, thus causes mortality and morbidity. Especially in recent studies, 25 hydroxyvitamin D3 (25-OH D3) deficiency has been associated with many different diseases and became a significant health problem. Although studies are suggesting an association between obesity and 25-OH D3 deficiency, there is no consensus yet. This study investigates the relationship between 25-OH D3 levels and blood glucose level and body mass index in non-obese and non-diabetic women. Methods: In this study, the data of female patients aged between 18–84 years, who were applied to the internal med- icine outpatient clinic between 2016 and 2018 and whose heights and weights were recorded, were retrospectively analyzed. The study included 201 female patients. Results: There was a negative correlation revealed between vitamin D levels and body mass index (r=0.222, p<0.01). Discussion and Conclusion: According to these results, 25-OH D3 deficiency should be considered in patients with a high body mass index.

BRIEF REPORT Our study presented as a poster and only of the abstract section in PACTRIMS 2017. 67 Yazıcıoğlu Cezayir et al.; Apelin and Sirtuin 1 in Migraine Pathogenesis / doi: 10.14744/lhhs.2021.80003 of several organs. It is a key regulator in a normal glucolipid metabolism, also playing a potential role in obesity, insulin resistance, controlling water, and food intake.[5] Whether migraine creates a neurodegenerative process remains a controversial subject; we hypothesize that apelin and SIRT1 molecules may have a possible role in this pathogenesis. Materials and Methods Study Design and Data Analysis Thirty patients were accepted in this study who had applied to Gazi University, Faculty of Medicine, Neurology Department between 2014 and 2015 years. Patients have been diagnosed as having migraine according to The International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition beta version (ICHD–III beta), and patients who had systemic comorbidity especially inflammatory conditions, obesity, and severe cardiac pathologies were excluded from this study. In the migraine group, 22 patients had episodic migraine and 8 had chronic migraine. Four patients had migraines with aura, and 26 had migraines without aura. Furthermore, 12 patients were in an attack period, and 18 were in an attack-free period at the time blood samples were obtained. All patients with migraine with aura were also in the episodic migraine group. The mean disease duration of the patients after diagnosis was 5.6 years. At the time of sampling, all patients have received treatment. The treatment that had been received by chronic migraine patients were amitriptyline, propranolol, duloxetine, topiramate, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and triptans; and the treatments received by episodic patients who had less than three attacks in a month were only nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and triptans. Furthermore, 20 healthy volunteers, with similar age and gender compared to the migraine group, were included in this study as a control group. The study was approved by the ethics committee of Keçiören Training and Research Hospital (No. 891 dated 24.06.2015). All individuals who were included in the study were informed about the study and their written consents were obtained.
