This paper proposes an automatic method for determining an adaptive threshold based on Wavelet decomposition, which allows the segmentation of power quality signals. Primarily, these signals were synthetically generated, which represents short duration voltage variations, oscillatory and impulsive transients and harmonic distortions. Subsequently, the signals were decomposed by Daubechies Wavelets, whose second level of decomposition provided the values of energy and entropy of the energy used in determining the adaptive thresholds. The segments were then obtained by the intersections of the curves of Wavelets details with the calculated thresholds. The results reached with this methodology were evaluated under synthetic and real oscillographs in order to show its efficiency.

Economic and environmental reasons stimulated people to build low energy houses all over the world. In order to study this kind of buildings, adapted to the Romanian climatic conditions, a new project was developed by the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest. The present paper deals with the presentation of the passive house build within the campus of University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and with the power quality analysis of the photovoltaic system installed on the rooftop of the passive house.

This paper presents an analysis of current emission from low-voltage appliances in the frequency range from 2 to 150 kHz. The current to an electric vehicle is measured for different connection of other devices (LED lamp, microwave oven, TV) showing the presence of primary and secondary emission. The paper shows that the presence of a neighboring device can have a strong influence on the emission.

This paper solves problematic of supply voltage dips and their influence to modern electric drive (i.e. induction machine supplied from indirect frequency converter). The paper presents the control algorithms for basic variant the most used drives (with non-controlled rectifier and without additional converter) and variants with more complicated power circuits (with active rectifier respectively with special additional step-up boost converter in DC-link).

This paper proposes a direct approach based on Principal Curves for power quality disturbance detection. The main advantages of the method lie in its low computational burden in the operational phase, its capability to detect disturbances when power frequency is time-varying and its good performance to signals exhibiting high noise levels. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms other methods in terms of detection rates and computational complexity.

The Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is one of the most used tools for spectral analysis. However, the DFT-based harmonic estimation is inaccurate when the power system frequency deviates from its nominal value. Also, an interharmonic may be not distinguishable when the DFT frequency resolution does not match the interharmonic frequency. This paper proposes the application of Single Channel Independent Component Analysis (SCICA) to blindly estimate harmonics and interharmonics of a power system signal. The SCICA operation is equivalent to an adaptive linear filter bank which can blindly separate the harmonics and interharmonics of the signal. It will be shown that the SCICA algorithm obtains more accurate results for estimation of arbitrary harmonic and interharmonic frequencies than the DFT.

The system is controlled by a microprocessor, or microcomputer, which determines the optimum speed profile for each movement and passes. The system contains the system's D/A converter. An optical encoder on the motor shaft provides signals which are processed by converter. So converter produces tacho voltage feedback and position feedback for the control micro.

As the substantial inverters of micro power supply and large amount of nonlinear loads in micro-grid, the harmonic problem is more and more prominent. This paper presents a harmonic suppression method using passive power filter (PF) and active power filter (APF) for micro-grid. According to the characteristics of microgrid and the influence of harmonics on two operation modes, a mathematical model is built considering economy and effect of filters as the optimal objective. Then an optimal configuration of filters in the micro-grid is given through optimizing by the improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Simulations and analysis are provided showing the validity of the proposed method.

The paper presents the structure of an active parallel filter for reducing harmonic pollution and reactive power. The active power filter control is based on instantaneous reactive power theory. The authors present the modelling of parallel active filter based on this theory and the simulation results in MATLAB-SIMULINK. The method is based on instantaneous reactive power (TPRI_P).

The paper presents the current state of art of a developed smart Distribution Management System (DMS) environment based on the innovative SCADA systems. The tool is designed to intelligently manage, on-line and off-line, the distribution systems with a high penetration of dispersed generation and is particularly adapted to the specifics of the distribution systems in Italy. The work results from the research project InGrid done by Siemens Italy in cooperation with Politecnico di Milano and Università degli Studi di Milano universities. Research activities have been carried out for innovative functions for the management of medium voltage distribution grids in presence of distributed generation. Such functions have been deployed in a software tool and have been tested in real life conditions.
