TEES BARRAGE BRIDGE DESIGN 三通拦河桥设计

An account is given of the design of a tubular steel road bridge across the River Tees barrage at Blue House Point, Stockton. The result of an architectural competition, the design comprises arches with circular infill members resulting in as transparent an appearance as was possible. Details are given of decisions taken during the design in order to accommodate the highest loading specified by the Department of Transport whilst keeping the original architectural concept. Initial analysis of part of the steelwork showed that the bridge steelwork behaved in unusual ways. A space frame model of the whole bridge was developed and analysed on a Sun Sparc workstation using Oasys GSA analysis software. 279 loadcases were examined. The final design which contains 350 tonnes of tubular steel and 280 tonnes of plates and cast steel, has a conventional reinforced concrete deck.

Stabilisation of jointing sand in block paving 砌块铺装中缝砂的稳定研究

This paper discusses the problem of loss of jointing sand in block paving, how to avoid attendant loss of interlock, and possible damage to the pavement structure from ingress of water. Reasons for the erosion of jointing sand so far identified are: (1) Action of jet blast and propeller wash from aircraft engines; (2) Use of vacuum sweepers for cleaning block‐paving areas; (3) turbulent water flow over pavement surface; and (4) degradation and pumping of laying‐course materials. Various materials have been used to try to stabilize the jointing sand; some have provided a temporary solution to the problem. However, the most effective means of preventing erosion problems has been found to be the use of a specially formulated liquid prepolymer that retains elasticity after curing and is thus able to sustain the essential flexible nature of the block‐paving system.
