A study was made of the mechanical properties of the lateral cricoarytenoid muscle in the dog. This laryngeal muscle was found to have a fast contraction time of 19 msec, which is second only to the very fast thry oarytenoid muscle. An average maximum force of 63 g also would rank this muscle as one of the ‘weaker’muscles of the larynx.

The taste function has been followed by subjective and objective tests in a material operated upon for otosclerosis. From the result of this investigation the following may be pointed out: It is necessary to use objective test methods to get reliable information about the taste function. It may be possible to decrease the number of cases in which the chorda tympani is sectioned at theoperation for otosclerosis.
