Healthcare WSN: Cluster Elections and Selective Forwarding Defense 医疗WSN:群集选举和选择性转发防御

Wireless sensor networks are an array of different components. Upgrading a single component may not be enough. It is necessary to take each component and apply the best possible techniques to upgrade the system. This paper looks at the configurations necessary for a medical based WSN with particular focus on clustering and routing. It includes an implementation of a WSN architecture in Contiki operating system using Tmote Sky and openmote technologies. The underlying power consumption related to this architecture is analysed and real world measurements are presented. Finally, the case of a modified secure routing algorithm is introduced with simulation based results showing single and collaborative selective forwarding detection/correction, and network latency. Additionally, a solution to the problem of malicious nodes dropping control messages has been provided. The uniqueness of the paper resides in the implementation of monitoring mechanism without any watchdog nodes. Moreover, to the best of the authors' knowledge, this mechanism has not been implemented on the Contiki OS.

Refining Mobile Web Design for Reducing Energy Consumption of Mobile Terminals 改进移动网页设计,降低移动终端能耗

Recent years have seen an increasing demand of web applications on mobile terminals. However, web pages, conventionally designed for PCs with stable power supply and large screen, do not lead to the same user experience when directly running on mobile terminals with limited battery and small screen. There have been some initial efforts on mobile-enabled web design, but the energy consumption of web pages on mobile terminals is seldom taken into account. In this paper, we discuss how to refine mobile web design for reducing energy consumption of web browsing on mobile terminals. First, based on experiments, we analyze energy consumption of different computing resources on each mobile terminal during web page browsing. We reveal that besides CPU, Wi-Fi and display, scrolling operations also lead to a large energy consumption, which, however, is not seriously considered in previous works. Then, based on the fact that web contents have different access popularity, we propose a content rearrangement method: listing contents in the decreasing order of their access popularity so as to reduce the average number of scrolling operations required to reach target contents. The proposed method is evaluated, by both theoretical analysis and experiments on actual web pages. e.g., in a scenario with 100 contents where the top 10 are already in order, applying the proposed method to the rest 90 less popular contents still reduces the energy consumption of web browsing by 26% according to the theoretical analysis.

Improving Wi-Fi Based Localization Using External Constraints 利用外部约束改进基于Wi-Fi的定位

Wi-Fi based localization enables detection of users' position in indoor spaces by means of wireless networking infrastructure. The positive aspects of this solution include the reuse of already deployed systems and thus its reduced costs. On the negative side, Wi-Fi based localization is not particularly accurate, because the common operating conditions are far from the ideal ones. We propose to use external constraints for improving the accuracy of Wi-Fi based localization. A set of known schedules is used to restrict the estimated position of the user to a single room. The schedule for a given user is automatically selected from a set of possible ones by observing user's movements with coarse-grained resolution.

Energy-Efficient Traffic Scheduling in IP over WDM Networks IP over WDM网络的高能效流量调度

In this paper, we investigate the energy efficiency that can be achieved by using traffic scheduling in IP over WDM networks. A mixed integer linear programming model is developed to optimize routing and scheduling in dynamically arriving demands, where part of the demands can be allocated within a sliding window. The results show that scheduling improves the energy efficiency of non-bypass IP/WDM networks, with traffic grooming by up to 25% and blocking is reduced by 30%.

Geographical Route Selection Based on User Public Transportation and Service Preferences 基于用户公共交通和服务偏好的地理路线选择

With the wide spread of devices that support mobile computing environment and applications, there is a need to develop new services that satisfy the needs of a mobile user. In this paper, we propose a new approach of selecting routes in a public transport networks using a combined criteria to provide a service that finds geographical routes from a source to a destination based on user public transportation and service preferences. Based on the proposed criteria we allow a path selection to depend on two main preferences. The first preference is the public transport media which could include bus, train, metro, and walking etc. The second preference is a service related one and includes the best network connection availability, such as GPRS, 3G, and 4G etc, along the available paths. We think that a combination of these two preferences is of high importance in our current daily life since a continuous availability of internet connection is crucial even while we are on the move using any public transport media. The proposed approach have been modelled and simulated via a C++ program. The simulation has been used to evaluate the proposed combined criteria in comparison with other approaches which are based just on the first preference, namely the public transport media, and with the simple shortest route selection approach. Results show that our combined criteria allow a mobile user to select geographical routes according to the preferred public transport media while being able to stay connected with higher transmission rate network connections.
