From the point of view of educational environments technological innovation, teaching has stopped to be based on theory without the practical manipulations, providing new complementary educational services through different tools, computer modeling and simulations are necessary in order to encourage the university student’s skills acquisition. In kinetics we have to estimate parameters for the catalytic chemical reactions, vapor deposition and many other reactions. Kinetic Monte Carlo is a simulation method often used when simulating how chemical systems evolve over time, for example how crystalline layers grow or evolve as atoms are deposited or hops around on a defined lattice surface or how concentrations of substrates depend on enzymatic reactions. The work presented in this paper aims at highlighting the role of using computer simulations in the practical work of the teaching of the kinetic chemical roles, especially due to their impact on learning during the teaching process. Undoubtedly, by applying the Monte Carlo method and implementing a computer application developed in the educational setting for the simulations of the chemical reactions provides the students with the opportunity to acquire new skills and abilities, including the didactic and educational ones, enabling them, thus, to create a new dynamic that aims at optimizing the process of interaction and interactivity in the university. The analysis of the collected data is made after carrying out a survey on the impact of the integration of this new techno-pedagogic instrument on the students of the MSC course taught in third year at the Faculty of Science-Ben M’sik. The analysis is showing the usefulness of using this system in order to participate in the integration of the other platforms and applications of scientific simulations.

Computer-based training (CBT) has become a common form of instructional delivery in business and educational environments. A standard practice during the design and development of CBT, is to incorporate the multimedia principle to aid learning. However, a recent meta-analysis by Pastore, Briskin, and Asino (2016) revealed that very little research has actually examined the multimedia principle (single vs. multiple representations) on adult learners in a computer-based environment. Instead, much of the research has focused on K-12, used paper and pencil rather than a computer, did not compare single vs multiple representations, or had methodological issues (i.e. did not report the type of knowledge assessed). As a result, the current study examines the multimedia, modality, and redundancy principles in a computer-based environment with adult learners on learning (highand lowlevel knowledge) and cognitive load measures. The results of the low (recall) and high (transfer) level learning tasks in this study supported the multimedia principle. Multiple representations were found to better support learning than just one. However, this was not the case for modality or redundancy principles. Learners presented duplicate text and narration or text with optional narration performed just as well as those with no duplication, indicating reverse redundancy. Additionally, the narration and images groups did not outperform text and image groups.

Facial Expression Recognition is an application used for biometric software that can be used to recognize special expressions in a digital image by analysing and comparing different patterns. These software are popularly used for the purpose of security and are commonly used in other applications such as credit card verification, surveillance systems, medicines, home security, human-computer interface, etc.. Recognizing faces becomes very difficult when there is a frequent change occurs in facial expressions. In this paper two layer extension of HMM is used to identify continuous effective facial expressions. Partition technique is used for feature extraction. Two layered extension of HMM consists of bottom layer which represents the atomic expression made by eyes, nose and lips. Further upper layer represents the combination of these atomic expressions such as smile, fear etc. In HMM, Baum-Welch, Viterbi and Forward methods are used for parameter estimation for calculating the optimal state sequence and probability of the observed sequence respectively. This proposed system consists of three level of classification. Output of the first level is used for the training purposes for the second level and further this level is used for the third level for testing. Six basic facial expressions are recognised i.e. anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness and surprise. Experimental result shows that Proposed System performs better than normal HMM and has the overall accuracy of 85% using JAFFE database.

This paper aims to contribute in visual computing over the implementation of face recognition algorithms on Jetson TK1. This powerful tool is a NVIDIA’s embedded Linux development platform featuring a Tegra K1 SOC which contains a CPU, a GPU and an ISP in a single chip. The Tegra K1 ‘class one’ is very faster than the former Tegra 2 ‘class two’ and is the most efficient GPU in the ARM world. This particularity added to some optimizations we have made on implementation strategy and on recognition face algorithms conduct us to reach good results in real time systems RTS.

State-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms and related search heuristics are well suited to solve problems from industry. Unfortunately, easy to use graphical user interfaces (GUI) are not available for many algorithms. We claim that the availability of well-designed GUIs might increase the acceptance of these algorithms in the real-world domain. The spotGUI R-package, which is introduced in this paper, provides a GUI for the already well-established SPOT package. It includes state-of-the-art algorithms and modeling techniques that can be used without the requirement of optimization or programming knowledge. Using the spotGUI in industry, as well as education, delivered first promising results.

In this study, we propose a system to recognize the finger-lifting electroencephalogram (EEG) data. Combined with independent component analysis (ICA) and feature extraction, fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering is used to discriminate between left and right finger movement without supervision. ICA is used to eliminate the electrooculography (EOG) artifacts. Wavelet-fractal features are then extracted from wavelet data via fractal dimension. FCM clustering is used for feature discrimination. It is an unsupervised approach suitable for the applications of biomedical signals. After EOG artifact removal, the performance is improved for all subjects.
