Esthetics in pediatric dentistry. 儿童牙科美学。

Esthetic restorations for the anterior primary dentition are discussed. Varied primary crowns--stainless steel, composite strip crowns, preformed ceramo-base metal crowns, and stainless steel crowns with composite facings--are evaluated as to their advantages and disadvantages. The repair of grossly decayed teeth, for example, nursing bottle caries, using complete endodontic therapy and stress relieved posts is described. Alternative esthetic anterior restorations, fixed and removable, are evaluated as to their efficacy.

Gagging is a protective reflex to stop unwanted entry into the mouth and oropharynx. Some people have a reduced or absent reflex, while others have a pronounced one. Pronounced gag reflexes can compromise all aspects of dentistry, from the diagnostic procedures of examination and radiography to any form of active treatment. In some patients with marked gagging reflexes, it can lead to avoidance of treatment. Many techniques have been described that attempt to overcome this problem, and a variety of management strategies is necessary to aid the delivery of dental care. This is a review of the etiology of gagging problems, clinical assessment, and their classification and categorization prior to clinical treatment. It discusses as well methods for managing patients with gag reflexes during dental treatment.

Although neurofibroma is a rare orbital tumor, ophthalmic nurses may have the first opportunity to observe patients with this tumor. These patients may first be seen with normal visual acuity, proptosis, or affected ocular motility. An interesting patient who was diagnosed with an orbital neurofibroma is presented.

The acidity of wine can cause dental erosion. Furthermore, its constituents may lead to excessive staining of teeth. The authors report the case of apatient whose amount, manner and timing of wine consumption caused these dental problems.

The mechanical debridement of the root canal system fails to completely remove debris from the root canal walls. So, one or more irrigants must be used for complete disinfection of the root canal system (RCS). One possible way to improve the bactericidal efficacy of the disinfecting solutions is to incorporate different detergents as surface active agents to help reduce the surface tension and increase the wettability of the solutions. Surfactants have been added to various root canal irrigation solutions. The purpose of this paper is to review the effects of adding surfactants to established root canal irrigants and new surfactant-containing root canal irrigants.
