Restoring Trees Damaged by Cyclone Hudhud at Visakhapatnam, India 在印度维沙卡帕特南,修复被飓风“哈德哈德”毁坏的树木

Cyclone Hudhud which battered the city of Visakhapatnam on 12 th October, 2014, damaged many buildings, public amenities and infrastructure facilities along the Visakha- Bheemili coastal corridor. More than half the green cover of the city was wiped out. Majority of the trees along the coastal corridor suffered from complete or partial damage. In order to understand the different ways that trees incurred damage during the cyclone, a damage assessment study was carried out by the author. The areas covered by this study included two university campuses, several parks and residential colonies which bore the brunt of the cyclone. Post disaster attempts have been made to restore many of the trees that have suffered from partial or complete damage from the effects of extreme winds. This paper examines the various ways that trees incurred damage from the cyclone Hudhud and presents some examples of the restoration efforts carried out by educational institutions, public parks and religious institutions of the city of Visakhapatnam in the aftermath of the devastating cyclone.

Physical Characteristics Of Cookies Enriched With Microencapsulated Cherry Pomace Extract 樱桃果渣微胶囊浓缩饼干的物理特性研究

Pomace, a by-product from fruit processing industry is the potential source of valuable bioactive. Cookies are popular, ready to eat and low price foods; therefore, enrichment of these products is of great importance. In this work, bioactive compounds extracted from cherry pomace, encapsulated in soy and whey proteins, have been incorporated in cookies, replacing 10 (SP10 and WP10) and 15% of wheat flour (SP15 and WP15). Cookie geometry (diameter (D), thickness (T) and spread ratio (D/T)), cookie weight, cookie hardness and cookie surface colour were measured. Sensory characteristics are also examined. The results show that encapsulated cherry pomace bioactives have positively influenced the cookie mass. Diameter, redness (a* value) and cookie hardness increased. Sensory evaluation of cookies, revealed that up to 15% substitution of wheat flour with WP encapsulate produced acceptable cookies similar to the control (100% wheat flour) cookies.

Assessment of Diagnostic Enzymes as Indices of Heavy Metal Pollution in Tilapia Fish 罗非鱼重金属污染诊断酶指标评价

Diagnostic enzymes like aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase(ALP) were determined as indices of heavy metal pollution in Tilapiaguinensis. Three different sets of fishes treated with lead (Pb), iron(Fe) and copper (Cu) were used for the study while a fourth groupwith no heavy metal served as a control. Fishes in each of the groupswere exposed to 2.65mg/l of Pb, 0.85mg/l of Fe and 0.35 mg/l of Cuin aerated aquaria for 96 hours. Tissue fractionation of the livertissues was carried out and the three diagnostic enzymes (AST, ALT,and ALP) were estimated. Serum levels of the same diagnosticenzymes were also measured. The mean values of the serum enzymeactivity for ALP in each experimental group were 19.5±1.62,29.67±2.17 and 1.15±0.27 IU/L for Pb, Fe and Cu groups comparedwith 9.99±1.34 IU/L enzyme activity in the control. This resultshowed that Pb and Fe caused increased release of the enzyme intothe blood circulation indicating increased tissue damage while Cucaused a reduction in the serum level as compared with the level inthe control group. The mean values of enzyme activity obtained inthe liver were 102.14±6.12, 140.17±2.06 and 168.23±3.52 IU/L forPb, Fe and Cu groups, respectively compared to 91.20±9.42 IU/Lenzyme activity for the control group. The serum and liver AST andALT activities obtained in Pb, Fe, Cu and control groups arereported. It was generally noted that the presence of the heavy metalcaused liver tissues damage and consequent increased level of thediagnostic enzymes in the serum.

Effect of Silver Nanoparticles on Seed Germination of Crop Plants 纳米银对作物种子萌发的影响

Engineered nanomaterials have increased for their positive impact in improving many sectors of economy including agriculture. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been implicated nowadays to enhance seed germination, plant growth, improvement of photosynthetic quantum efficiency and as antimicrobial agents to manage plant diseases. In this study, we examined effect of AgNPs dosage on seed germination of three plant species; corn ( Zea mays L.), watermelon ( Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai) and zucchini ( Cucurbita pepo L.). Therefore, this experiment designed to study the effect of AgNPs on germination percentage, germination rate, mean germination time, root length, fresh and dry weight of seedling for the three spices. Seven concentrations (0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 mg/L) of AgNPs were examined at seed germination stage. The results showed that the three spices revealed different dosage response to AgNPs on germination percentage and the measured growth characters. Germination rate values were enhanced for the three plants in response to AgNPs. Significant enhancement in germination percentage values for watermelon and zucchini plants were observed by treatment with AgNPs in comparison with nontreated seeds. AgNPs showed toxic effect on corn roots elongation whereas watermelon and zucchini seedling growth were positively affected by certain concentration of AgNPs. This study showed that exposure to AgNPs caused both positive and negative effects on plant growth and germination.

Germination increased the phenol and flavoniod content by 19.14% and 14.53% respectively. The results of AOA assay showed that the DPPH, reducing power and FRAP of germinated AYB seed gave high values: 48.92 ±1.22mg /ml,0.75± 0.15mg /ml and 98.60±0.04 µmol/g while that of ungerminated seed were: 31.33µ/ml, 0.56±1.52mg/ml and 96.11±1.13µmol/g respectively. Germinated AYB has phytochemicals with potential AOA for disease prevention.

Evaluation of Prevalence of the Types of Thyroid Disorders Using Ultrasound and Pathology of One Humped Camel in Iran (Camelus dromedarius) 伊朗单驼峰(Camelus dromedarius)甲状腺疾病类型的超声及病理评价

The thyroid gland is the largest classic endocrine organ that effects many organs of the body and plays a significant role in the process of Metabolism in animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of thyroid disorders diagnosed by ultrasound and microscopic Lesions of the thyroid during the slaughter of apparently healthy One Humped Camels (Camelus dromedarius) in Iran. Randomly, 520 male camels (With an age range of 4 to 8 years), were studied in 2012 to 2013. The Camels’ thyroid glands were evaluated by sonographic examination. In both longitudinal and transverse view and then tissue sections were provide and stained with H & E and finally examined by light microscopy. The results obtained indicated the following: hyperplastic goiter (21%), degenerative changes (12%), follicular cysts (8%), follicular atrophy (4%), nodular hyperplasia (3%), adenoma (1%), carcinoma (1%) and simple goiter colloid (1%). Ultrasound evaluation of thyroid gland in adenoma and carcinoma showed enlargement and irregular of the gland, decreased echogenicity, and the heterogeneous thyroid parenchyma. Also, in follicular cysts were observed in the enlarged gland with no echo structures of different sizes and decreased echogenicity as a local or general. In nodular hyperplasia, increase echogenicity and heterogeneous parenchymal were seen. These findings suggest the use of sonography and pathology as a screening test in the diagnosis of complications of thyroid disorders. Keywords—One humped camel, pathology, sonography, thyroid gland.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of thyroid disorders diagnosed by ultrasound and microscopic Lesions of the thyroid during the slaughter of apparently healthy One Humped Camels (Camelus dromedarius) in Iran. Randomly, 520 male camels (With an age range of 4 to 8 years), were studied in 2012 to 2013. The Camels’ thyroid glands were evaluated by sonographic examination. In both longitudinal and transverse view and then tissue sections were provide and stained with H & E and finally examined by light microscopy. The results obtained indicated the following: hyperplastic goiter (21%), degenerative changes (12%), follicular cysts (8%), follicular atrophy (4%), nodular hyperplasia (3%), adenoma (1%), carcinoma (1%) and simple goiter colloid (1%). Ultrasound evaluation of thyroid gland in adenoma and carcinoma showed enlargement and irregular of the gland, decreased echogenicity, and the heterogeneous thyroid parenchyma. Also, in follicular cysts were observed in the enlarged gland with no echo structures of different sizes and decreased echogenicity as a local or general. In nodular hyperplasia, increase echogenicity and heterogeneous parenchymal were seen. These findings suggest the use of sonography and pathology as a screening test in the diagnosis of complications of thyroid disorders. A β-mannanase from Fusarium oxysporum SS-25 via Solid State Fermentation on Brewer’s Spent Grain: Medium Optimization by Statistical Tools, Kinetic Characterization and Its Applications 啤酒废粮固态发酵尖孢镰刀菌SS-25 β-甘露聚糖酶:培养基优化、动力学表征及其应用

This study concerned with the optimization of fermentation parameters for the hyper production of mannanase from Fusarium oxysporum SS-25 employing two step statistical strategy and kinetic characterization of crude enzyme preparation. The Plackett-Burman design was first used to screen out the important factors in the culture medium which were found to be: 20% (w/w) wheat bran, 2% (w/w) each of potato peels, soybean meal, malt extract, 1% tryptone, 0.14% NH4SO4, 0.2% KH2PO4, 0.0002% ZnSO4, 0.0005% FeSO4, 0.01% MnSO4, 0.012% SDS, 0.03% NH4Cl, 0.1% NaNO3 in brewer’s spent grain based medium with 50% moisture content, inoculated with 2.8×10 spores and incubated at 30C for 6 days. Out of twenty seven factors, four variables including soybean meal, FeSO4, MnSO4 and NaNO3 were selected to study the interactive effects and optimum level of these variables in central composite design of response surface methodology. The final mannanase yield was 193 IU/g which was active at broader temperature and pH range and could result in 26.6% reduction in kappa number with 4.93% higher tear index and 1% increase in brightness when used to treat the wheat straw based kraft pulp. The hydrolytic potential of enzyme was demonstrated on both locust bean gum and guar gum.

Energy Requirement For Cutting Corn Stalks (Single Cross 704 Var.) 玉米秸秆切割能量需要量(单交704 Var)

Corn is cultivated in most countries because of high consumption, quality, and food value. This study evaluated needed energy for cutting corn stems in different levels of cutting height and moisture content. For this reason, test device was fabricated and then calibrated. The device works on the principle of conservation of energy. The results were analyzed using split plot design and SAS software. The results showed that effect of height and moisture content and their interaction effect on cutting energy are significant (P<1%). The maximum cutting energy was 3.22 kJ in 63 (w.b.%) moisture content and the minimum cutting energy was 1.63 kJ in 83.25 (w.b.%) moisture content.

Modified Naïve Bayes Based Prediction Modeling for Crop Yield Prediction 改进Naïve基于Bayes的作物产量预测模型

Most of greenhouse growers desire a determined amount of yields in order to accurately meet market requirements. The purpose of this paper is to model a simple but often satisfactory supervised classification method. The original naive Bayes have a serious weakness, which is producing redundant predictors. In this paper, utilized regularization technique was used to obtain a computationally efficient classifier based on naive Bayes. The suggested construction, utilized L1-penalty, is capable of clearing redundant predictors, where a modification of the LARS algorithm is devised to solve this problem, making this method applicable to a wide range of data. In the experimental section, a study conducted to examine the effect of redundant and irrelevant predictors, and test the method on WSG data set for tomato yields, where there are many more predictors than data, and the urge need to predict weekly yield is the goal of this approach. Finally, the modified approach is compared with several naive Bayes variants and other classification algorithms (SVM and kNN), and is shown to be fairly good.
