: This study was focused on molluscicidal effect and feeding deterrent activity of saponin from five different plant materials; Andrographis paniculata , Entada spiralis , Ficus deltoidea , Furcraea selloa and Ipomoea batatas . Crude plant extracts were prepared from plant powders using methanol. The crude extracts were then tested on Pomacea maculata using five different concentrations (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 ppm, respectively) against niclosamide (control). After 72 h of exposure, the highest percentage of mortality of 80% was achieved from 15 ppm of F. selloa. Two analyses were conducted to observe the feeding deterrent activity and after 24 h, both analyses demonstrated the feeding deterrent activity in both crude extracts ( F. selloa and E. spiralis ) similar in niclosamide.

The aim of this study is to evaluate by scientific studies, the Eucalyptus camaldulensis potentialities used in traditional medicine in Burkina Faso to treat malaria. Then, acute general toxicity, antioxidant and antibacterial activities phytochemical composition were evaluated. The leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnhardt (Myrtaceae) are used in Burkina Faso for the treatment of malaria and respiratory diseases. Aqueous extracts of the leaves are the form of use recommended by traditional healers. We studied the acute toxicity antioxidant activity, the antibacterial activity, the phytochemical composition of aqueous extracts of Eucalyptus camaldulensis , used everywhere in Burkina Faso. Acute toxicity was studied in NMRI strain mice. The aqueous extracts were not toxic at the maximum dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight. The extracts presented antioxidant activity with an IC 50 which is 12.5 &mug/mL. The extracts showed no bacterial activity on three strains of bacteria tested: Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus . Phytochemicals compounds that we have identified are alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and phenolics compounds, triterpenoids and steroids, saponosides.

Effect of Intramuscular Administration of Trypadim, Trypamidium and Novidium on Body Temperature, Body Weight and Hematological Parameters of Wistar Rats Infected with Trypanosoma brucei brucei (Federe Strain)

Effect of intramuscular administration of Trypanocides on body temperature, body weight and hematological parameters of Wistar rats infected with Trypanosoma brucei brucei was investigated. Twenty-five adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups. Group A uninfected untreated, group B were infected with 1×10 of the parasites. Groups C, D and E were administered the same dose as in group B and were treated with 3.5 mg/kg b.w. of Trypadim (Diminazene di-aceturate); 1 mg/kg b.w. of Trypamidium (Isometamidium chloride) and 1 mg/kg b.w. of Novidium (Homidium chloride), respectively. PCV, WBC, Neutrophil were significantly (p<0.05) higher in groups C, D and E compared to group B. However, the same level of significance (p<0.05) was observed for eosinophil but in a decreasing pattern. Body temperature increased consistently in all groups except group A. There was a significant (p<0.05) difference in all treated groups compared to group B on day 7 and 28 postinfection. Body weight decreased significantly (p≤0.01) in group B compared to the initial and final values. Both vitamins in their separate administration demonstrated trypanocidal and anti-pyrexia activities and therefore we recommend further studies of their combined usage in order to evaluate its synergistic effect in combating or ameliorating the problem of drug resistance in trypanosomiasis.
