Measurement Properties of Self-Report Questionnaires Measuring the Social Adjustment for Youth after Treatment of Childhood Cancer: Systematic Review 儿童癌症治疗后青少年社会适应自我报告问卷的测量性质:系统评价

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate measurement properties of self-report questionnaires measuring the social adjustment for youth after treatment of childhood cancer. Methods: Social adjustment measurement tools were identified through a two-stage systematic review. First, we searched for articles using self-report questionnaires to measure the social adjustment of youth after the treatment of childhood cancer. The appropriate tools were listed and categorized. Second, using methodological filters, we searched 5 electronic databases for articles examining the measurement properties of the tools when used with youth after the treatment of childhood cancer. The quality of these papers was then evaluated using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist. Results: Eight tools were frequently used to measure social adjustment. Eight studies investigated the measurement properties of 4 of these tools. The PedsQL 4.0 and MMQL-AF had moderate to strong evidence in some domains, but the rest of the domains had a lack of evidence. The SF-36 and KIDSCREEN-27 were validated for only a few areas. Conclusion: We found a lack of evidence regarding the measurement properties of these tools. More research is required on the measurement properties of tools for use in this population.

Development of a Sexual Abuse Prevention Education Program for Elementary School Students Using a Hybrid Application 使用混合应用程序为小学生开发防止性侵犯教育计划

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a sexual abuse prevention education program for elementary school students. Methods: Orem’s Self-Care Theory (1995) and Seels & Richey’s ADDIE model (1994) for developing learning materials were applied to develop this program Results: The development progress of the program consisted of 5 distinct phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The contents was classified into 6 categories: the definition of sexual abuse, how to deal with sexual abuse, the situational reaction, areas with a high risk for sexual abuse, related organizations, and a wrap-up quiz. The app was easily accessible for elementary school students. Conclusion: A sexual abuse prevention program using a hybrid app may be an effective way to reach elementary students, and further research for children of various ages is required.

Utilizing Video vs Simulation Practice for Handoff Education of Nursing Students in Pediatric Nursing 利用视频与模拟实践进行儿科护理专业护生的交接教学

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a model for handoff education for nursing students based on simulation using video and to identify educational effects of a simulated situation in pediatric care units. Methods: Data were collected from May 1 to 30, 2016. Participants were 84 senior nursing students in Seoul (video group: 43, simulation group: 41). Both groups were given a lecture and pre-briefing on handoff education. The simulation group had nursing practice on resolving health issues for respiratory distress using a high-fidelity baby simulator. The video group watched a video recording of a scenario based simulation, and used a summarized handoff situation to practice patient handoff to another student. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups for handoff self-confidence, problem solving ability, handoff competence (self-assessment of students), or learning satisfaction. Self-confidence increased significantly in both groups. Handoff competency evaluated by the instructor was higher in the video group compared to the simulation group (t=2.33, p=.022). Conclusion: Nursing student education for handoff practice utilizing a video in the pediatric unit was more cost effective. Therefore, it could be a useful educational method for students in learning patient handoff practices and helpful for related research.

Newborn Pain and Skin Reaction according to the Method of Removing the Eyepatch Used for Phototherapy 新生儿光疗用眼罩取下方法的疼痛及皮肤反应

Purpose: This study compared the pain and skin reactions of neonates according to the method of removing the adhesive eyepatch used for phototherapy. Methods: The subjects included 20 neonates admitted at C University Hospital. In group 1 (n=10), DuoDERM dressing was attached under the adhesive eyepatch, which was removed with water, while in group 2 (n=10), the eyepatch was attached on the skin and removed with oil. Heart rate, oxygen saturation, the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS), crying time were measured. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: No interaction was found between group and timing for heart rate and oxygen saturation. In group 1, the NIPS score was higher and the crying time was longer than in group 2. No difference was observed in the erythema score between the groups. Conclusion: Removing the adhesive eyepatch using oil can be used as a nursing intervention to reduce pain and improve comfort in neonates.

Relationship between Job Stress and Compassion Satisfaction, Compassion Fatigue, Burnout for Nurses in Children’s Hospital 儿童医院护士工作压力与同情满意度、同情疲劳、职业倦怠的关系

Purpose: Nurses experience burnout related to various factors. For this descriptive research job stress, compassion satisfaction, and compassion fatigue were examined as to their relationship to burnout in nurses from children’s hospital. Methods: The participants were 305 nurses working in children’s hospital. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure job stress, compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout. Results: Nurses in children’s hospital experienced a greater than moderate degree of job stress, compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout, whereas differences existed according to general characteristics. Job stress, compassion fatigue and burnout showed a significant positive correlation and results of compassion fatigue and burnout were similar. Also, job stress, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue were associated with burnout in nurses working in children’s hospital. Conclusion: Findings indicate that as longer work experience is accompanied by higher job stress and burnout, it is necessary to develop intervention programs to reduce burnout among career nurses exposed to greater job stress in children’s hospital.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship among depression, school adjustment, parent-child bonding, parental control and smartphone addiction, and to identify factors which influence smartphone addiction in adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 183 middle school students from 3 middle schools. Data collection was conducted through self-report questionnaires from April to May, 2017. Data were analyzed using χ² test, Fisher’s exact test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation coefficient analysis, and binary logistic regression with SPSS Ver. 21.0. Results: The mean score for smartphone addiction was 29.40. Of the adolescents, 21.3% were in the smartphone addiction risk group. Logistic regression analysis showed that gender (OR=7.09, 95% Cl: 2.57~19.52), school life (OR=0.86, 95% Cl: 0.79~0.93), smartphone usage time (OR=1.32, 95% Cl: 1.04~1.66), and parental control (OR=4.70, 95% Cl: 1.04~21.29) were effect factors for the smartphone addiction risk group. Conclusion: Findings indicate that school satisfaction was an important factor in adolescents’ smartphone addiction. Control oriented parent management of adolescents’ smartphone use did not reduce the risk of smartphone addiction and may have worsen the addiction. Future research is needed to improve understanding of how teachers and parents will manage their adolescents’ use of smartphones.

Analysis of Nurses’ Soothing Behaviors in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Focused on Babies with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia 新生儿重症监护室护士安抚行为分析——以支气管肺发育不良患儿为例

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses’ behaviors while soothing newborns with bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Methods: An observational study was used to assess nurses’ soothing behaviors. Data were collected from September, 2012 to March, 2013 using an audio-video recording system. Participants were eight babies and 12 nurses caring for those babies. After obtaining parental permission, the overall process of each episode from nurses’ engagement in soothing to the end of soothing was recorded. Then a researcher interviewed each participating nurse. Data from 18 episodes were transcribed as verbal and nonverbal nursing behaviors and then categorized by two researchers. Results: There were 177 observed soothing behaviors which were classified with the five sensory-based categories (tactile, oral, visual, auditory, vestibular). Most frequently observed soothing behavior was ‘Gently talking’ followed by ‘Removing irritant’, and ‘Providing non-nutritive sucking’. Nurses’ perceived soothing behaviors were similar to the observed soothing behaviors except for ‘Gently talking’. Conclusion: Nurses used diverse and mixed soothing behaviors as well as recognizing those behaviors as essential nursing skills. Nurses’ soothing behaviors identified in this study can be used to comfort babies and to enhance their developmental potential in accordance with individual characterstics or cues.

Factors Related to Parenting Satisfaction among Mothers of Preschoolers 学龄前儿童母亲养育子女满意度的相关因素

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to level of satisfaction among mothers of preschoolers. Methods: Partici-pants were 359 mothers of firstborn healthy preschoolers. The questionnaires were collected from August 1 to November 21, 2012. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. Results: The mean score for degree of mothers’ parenting satisfaction was 5.94 out of 7. There were significant differences in the level of parenting satisfaction according to mother’s job (t=2.48, p= .014), planned pregnancy (t=3.07, p= .002), number of children (t=2.22, p= .027), and parenting education (F=4.33, p= .005). The environmental variables of age of spouse (F=3.06, p= .048) and monthly income of the household (F=2.87, p= .036) also seemed to have an influence. Analysis of predictors such as the mother’s job, planned pregnancy, parenting education, overall health problems, parenting stress, perception of emotional status and behaviors in children, age of spouse, and spouse’s support explained 31.5% of the variance in mother’s parenting satisfaction. Conclusion: The results suggest a need to develop nursing intervention programs for parenting stress reduction, and health programs for fathers to support mothers’ child rearing.
