The competency-based medical education new curriculum stresses on the foundation course at the beginning of the MBBS programme, with an objective to orient the students on new knowledge and skills that will aid them in adapting to the new professional environment, providing the opportunity for faculty and peer interactions and sensitisation towards various teaching–learning methods. The Aim of the study was to analyse the student’s feedback on the foundation course and to determine the level of satisfaction of the learners towards the course. This was a programme evaluation of foundation course for newly joined MBBS students in Mamata Academy of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Telangana, India, during December from 12th to 19th for 7 days. On feedback analysis, around 90% of the students were satisfied with all the sessions and the students have expressed a high level of satisfaction towards the sessions of teamwork, leadership skills, interpersonal communication skills, Basic Life Support (BLS), first aid, field visit and Indian Medical Graduate (IMG) goals. A statistically significant difference between the mean scores of pre and post test was found. The overall feedback on the foundation course was satisfactory. Students have gladly received the foundation course and they were well sensitised by the topics covered and activities conducted. There was a significant improvement in their assessment scores. Thus, the impact of the foundation course will definitely help in accomplishing the goals of IMG effectively.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an adjunctive treatment for chronic pain. The current study aimed to perform a systematic evaluation and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of HBOT for pain reduction in fibromyalgia (FM) patients compared to conventional therapy. A systematic search of medical subject headings and keywords associated with HBOT for FM patients was conducted using electronic databases: MEDLINE/ PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus. Google Scholar was also combed to detect likely non-indexed available studies. We also searched manually through reference lists of identified original articles or reviews for relevant articles. The http://www.clinicaltrial.gov was examined for all research protocols being conducted/ planned. The Cochrane Collaboration tool and Higgins and Thompson’s I2 method determined the risk of bias and heterogeneity. The primary outcome was the effect of HBOT on pain; secondary outcomes included adverse effects of HBOT, assessment of the quality of life, functional impairment, psychological symptoms, and sleep quality. The overall quality of evidence was assessed with the GRADE approach. Cochrane RevMan software (version 5.4) was used for data analysis. Results were synthesised through a general summary of the characteristics and findings of each study. We also analysed different HBOT protocols and their outcomes across the studies. Five RCTs enrolling 91 and 89 patients in FM and control groups were included in the present study. HBOT results in decreased tender points (-6.23 (95 % CI: -7.76, -4.71) P < 0.0001), increased pain threshold (0.57 (95% CI: 0.3, 0.83) P < 0.00001) and a decreased Visual Analog scale (VAS) score for pain (-5.31(95 % CI: -8.17, -2.45)). Quality of life, sleep, functional impairment, etc., also improved after HBOT. HBOT is effective in pain and other associated outcomes in FM patients. In FM patients, high-quality evidence in favour of HBOT to improve pain, fatigue, quality of life, sleep, psychological outcomes, etc., is required.
MEDLINE/PubMed、Web of Science、Cochrane Library Central Register of Controlled Trials 和 Scopus。

India achieved elimination target for leprosy in December 2005. However, many pockets in the country continue to report significant number of cases. The aim of the study was to study the profile of leprosy cases presenting to a tertiary care hospital in North India in post-elimination era. The study was conducted at Hansen’s disease clinic. The study design was a retrospective observational study. Chart review of treatment naive leprosy patients enrolled between 1st January 2018 and 31st December 2019 was done. Data regarding demographic profile, clinical spectrum of leprosy, slit-skin smears (SSSs) and histopathological findings were analysed. Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 23 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Data were statistically described in terms of range, mean ± standard deviation, frequency (number of cases), and relative frequency (percentages). Amongst a total of 115 patients, males (68%, n = 79/115) outnumbered females. Children (<15 years) constituted 0.86% cases (n = 1/115) and 26% cases (n = 30/115) were above 50 years of age. Multibacillary leprosy (73%, n = 84/115) was more common. Borderline lepromatous (41.7%, n = 48/115) was the most common clinical type of leprosy, whereas Grade 2 disability was noted amongst 0.05% (n = 6/115) patients at presentation. SSS were positive in 60% (69/115) cases. The present study showed a significant increase in cases in the older age group and decrease in new cases in children. Furthermore, multibacillary cases outnumbered the paucibacillary cases. Similar trends were reported to be an indicator of decreasing incidence of leprosy in countries that eliminated leprosy. We speculate that India may be entering a phase of decreased community transmission of leprosy. Further, multicentric studies across the country may throw more light.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in dengue-endemic countries falls as a huge burden on healthcare infrastructure. Above everything, similar signs and symptoms of diseases caused by the two viruses make diagnosis and treatment more difficult. For this literature review, published articles from January 2020 to March 2023 available in the databases ‘PubMed’, ‘Google Scholar’ and ‘Embase’ have been explored to look at the similarities and differences between dengue and SARS-CoV-2 virus through the lens of genomics, epidemiology, clinical presentation and outcome of patients. The objectives of this study were to draw conclusions about the proposed pathophysiology of the viruses in case of a co-infection and to narrate evidence on outcome associated with the co-infection. Co-infection with dengue and COVID-19 virus can lead to moderate-to-severe morbid conditions; even the outcome could be fatal due to shock, multi-organ failure and stroke.
