Sartorius Bifurcatus - A Case Report
Pub Date : 2021-06-24 DOI: 10.19070/2572-7451-2100037

The sartorius muscle usually arises from the anterior superior iliac spine, crosses the thigh to the medial side and inserts into the proximal part of medial surface of the tibia. An unusual variation of unilateral sartorius muscle was noted in an adult South Indian cadaver during the routine dissection of the lower extremity. The accessory muscle had similar origin from anterior superior iliac spine but descended downward along the lateral side of the main sartorius muscle to get inserted into the medial patellar retinaculum. This mode of insertion gives more stability to the patella by pulling the patella medially by reinforcing the medial patellar retinaculum and thereby preventing the lateral displacement of patella along with the vastus medialis. The branches of femoral artery and the femoral nerve supplied the muscle. The knowledge of variations of sartorius is of paramount importance to utilize it as a graft in reconstructive surgeries.

Lower Extremities Biomechanics Patterns of Obese and Normal Body Mass Adults during Stairs Ascent and Descent

Obesity has been clinically implicated with musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis (OA) as a result of the direct load involving weight bearing joints [18]. Obesity is the number one risk factor for the progression of knee OA and may have long-term adverse effects on the knee joint [9]. The most prominent physical characteristic seen in knee osteoarthritis is joint space narrowing in the medial and lateral tibio-femoral compartments [1]. Sturmer et al., (2000) [18] reported a strong association between obesity and bilateral knee osteoarthritis which may potentially lead to changes in stair ambulation patterns in an obese population. When the joints of the lower extremity have an added load placed on them, joint degeneration occurs. Gait analyses of obese individuals have identified kinematic and kinetic adaptations when compared to normal body mass (normal mass) population [12], however limited research is available when comparing obese individuals to normal mass individuals during ascending and descending stairs.

Tattoos are increasing in size and popularity around the world, especially in the younger generation. Traditionally it is commonly seen in most of the religions having these tattoos; more common in females. Inserting tattoo, into the skin by introducing them through punctures has long posed an intriguing problem; commonly seen as challenging medical practice. The tattoo is expected to alter the new wearer's perception of the individual's identity. For the same reason, tattoos seem to have the ability to have a greater impact on one's self, with minimal variations and majority potentially affected identity. In the recent era, tattoos are even recognized as having autotherapeutical power which is in case of psychological trauma [1]. Tattoo and Body modifications are also considered a healthier alternative to attempts of self-mutilation [2].

Aquaculture is a highly economic yield projects, if achieved correctly. It is the fastest growing production sector all over the world. Where, it's the world wealth coming expansion to reimburse the shortage in animal protein [1]. Globally, total fish production peaked at about 171 million tonnes in 2016, where total aquaculture production has grown extremely during the last fifty years from a production of less than a million tonne in the early 1950s to 80.0 million tonnes (54.1 million tonnes of finfish, 17.1 million tonnes of molluscs, 7.9 million tonnes of crustaceans and 938.5 metric tonnes of other aquatic animals) by 2016. This level of aquaculture production had a value of US$ 232 billion [2].
