Fine needle aspiration cytology is a safe, accurate and minimally invasive diagnostic tool yet economically effective. This procedure will avoid incisional biopsy, no complication such as local inflammation, hematoma, infection or facial nerve damage was observed, and should be considered as first line of investigation in salivary gland lesion. FNAC helps to distinguish salivary gland lesion as inflammatory, benign and malignant hence allowing proper planning and management. This paper considered with some discussion about its sensitivity / specificity. However, it should be correlated with clinical / histopathological confirmation. Keywords: salivary gland, FNAC, parotid gland, minimally invasive procedure.

AN OVERVIEW OF EXTRAORAL MAXILLOFACIAL PROSTHESIS MATERIALS

Unaesthetic maxillofacial defects decreases social acceptance. Prosthetic rehabilitation of facial defects makes the life easier with improved esthetics. Prosthetic restoration of such defects is an ancient art, in which success has always being limited by unavailability of adequate materials. The success of any facial prosthesis depends on the physical and mechanical properties of the material. The rehabilitation of patients requiring not only the replacement of missing body part but also a loss of psychological confidence is a challenging task. Since maxillofacial defects lie on the face, the materials used for fabricating the prosthesis should fulfill a variety of requirements. At present, there is no ideal material which can be universally used. The scope of this article is in providing some background about the evolution and current trends in using these materials.

CIRCUMSTANTIAL ATYPICAL EXTRACTION – A CASE SERIES

It is not always necessary to treat patients in the same way on a regular or routine basis. Like here in this case series, an atypical extraction pattern gives more favorable results with a decrease treatment duration compared to routine extractions, and for this, proper diagnosis and treatment planning are needed. With minimal orthodontic manipulation, orthodontists can achieve improved functional occlusion and aesthetic outcomes. When mandibular anterior excess is shown in Bolton’s analysis or the periodontal condition of lower incisors is not good, then lower incisor extraction should be considered. It not only helps in keeping the original arch shape and width but also the inter-canine width. A buccally placed canine can also be extracted if the lateral incisors and canine have good contact. Keywords: atypical extraction, conventional extraction, lower incisor

To maintain optimal health proper nourishment in the form of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins & minerals is required. There are numerous elements that play a crucial role in the complicated relationships between dietary practices, oral health issues, nutritional status, and general health.By affecting tissue structural and functional integrity, lowering resistance to microbial biofilm, and delaying tissue healing, a diet lacking in nutrients can accelerate progression of disease in one’s oral cavity. Poor dental health can influence eating habits and change dietary preferences, which can have a severe impact on the overall health. Improving one's health and quality of life requires identifying and treating issues with oral hygiene and nutrition. The article's goal is to review the data supporting the link between diet, nutrition, and dental disorders and to offer dietary suggestions for preventing them. KEY WORDS Nutrition, Nutrients, Oral mucosa, Periodontium, RDA.

COMPLICATION OF TISSUE EXPANDERS IN MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery manages and deals with the re-conditioning, reestablishment and restoration of damaged and deformed anatomy of bone, skin, mucosa, muscle and nerves. And many a times, flaps are not sufficient to close the defect with help of local flaps and therefore it might become necessary to incorporate tissue expander to expand the surrounding tissue for restoring a defect. Tissue expansion is multifaceted technique for reconstruction surgeries providing well- vascularised surrounding tissues. This technique requires vigilant selection of patients to execute this process which lasts for approximately 8-12 weeks. Any remiss can lead to unfavourable outcome and complications, some minor & others major. This paper seeks to highlight the complications faced while incorporating a tissue expander. Major complications, might result in a delay in reconstruction but not tissue loss. Keywords: tissue expanders, complications, reconstruction, reconstructive surgery

Periodontal disease is a complex multifactorial inflammatory disease in which some specific microbial pathogens have been implicated in its pathophysiology namely Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Tannerella forsythia and Porphyromonasgingivalis. This review focuses on A. Actinomycetemcomitans, a gram negative micro-oraganisms and its role as one of the causative microorganisms of periodontitis, its interaction with the host, other oral micro flora and drugs including its association with extraoral diseases.

Class II Division I is the commonest malocclusion found in orthodontic population and a deep overbite is frequently encountered along with it. Many protocols have been utilised in treating such type of malocclusion from removable to fixed appliances with or without extractions. This case report is about a 15-year-old female patient who came to the Department of Orthodontics with a prognathic maxilla and a retrognathic mandible with 11 mm overjet. The patient refused fixed functional treatment thus a upper premolar extraction camouflage treatment was done. The chief complaint of the patient was successfully addressed and overall good treatment results were obtained with improved facial profile and reduced overjet. Keywords: Class II Division I malocclusion, Deep bite, Camouflage

Dental caries is the common disease in children which can affect the maxillary anterior teeth at a young age and result in the loss of dental crowns. The rehabilitation of primary teeth's appearance and functionality is thus a problem for pedodontists. This current report describes a case of a 5-year-old child with decayed maxillary incisors restored with strip crown technique. The restoration of the patient's smile and self-esteem was made possible with the help of strip crowns in fabrication of composite build up. Keywords: Early childhood caries, strip crown, composite resin

NOVEL APPROACHES IN BREAKING ORAL HABITS IN CHILDREN
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.58358/tmujd.090104
Aim: Oral habits are harmful to one's health due to their propensity to alter the dentoskeletal as well as musculoskeletal development of jaws. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the newer treatment modalities being used by the clinicians to interrupt the habit and their detrimental consequences on the child’s oral well-being. Materials and Methods: A total of 46 articles were screened, with 40 articles being excluded, 5 full-text articles being evaluated for eligibility to be reviewed for the present paper. Conclusion: Newer approaches for cessation of oral habits show better compliance and are more cost effective than the conventional one
