The article analyses sociological data collected on wartime ways and routes among civilian Mariupolites between 24 February and 30 June 2022. The gathered narratives from Mariupol civilians during the war in order to reproduce the chronology of events, document the wartime experience, and spread awareness of the problems faced by the people of Mariupol during their time in the besieged and later occupied city, during evacuation, and when searching for a new place of residence (interviews and electronic diaries). In total, more than 300 life narratives were analysed. The analysis made it possible to draw up a chronology of events in Mariupol during the war up until 30 June 2022, and to describe the experience of the first days of war before the complete siege of the city and during the blockade before evacuation, as well as under occupation. The peculiarities of public shelters and daily life during active hostilities and the complete blockade of the city were studied. In addition the study revealed the specific experience of the elderly and the disabled. Conflict situations that arose between Mariupol residents during hostilities and the occupation were also analysed, as were several life paths following the complete seizure and occupation of the city. Social types of experience were distinguished by availability of evacuation, its time in relation to the war, experiences during evacuation, and place of residence at the time of the survey.

Buddyjscy lamowie w nieoficjalnymżyciu społeczności lokalnych Zabajkala –perspektywa antropologiczna
Pub Date : 2022-12-20 DOI: 10.55226/uw.s-c.2021.32.2.7
Albert Jawłowski
After Joseph Stalin’s death only about 600 repressed Buryat lamas was able toreturn to their family villages. Some of them secretly continued their ritualand medical activities. They were called various names: starik, diedushka, akhay. According to the holistic perception of reality in Tibetan Buddhism, it is im-possible to separate the sphere of belief, cosmology, from prosperity, health, norms and values, social structure, hierarchy, power, and identity, etc. In this case, the identity would be created by a specific system of practices and procedures of behaviour consistent with the symbolic and social order, embedded the cosmogonic order that originally related to it. The unofficial role of thelamas was to maintain the traditional foundations of the social order and itsrelationship with the wider cosmogonic foundations.

Based on the author’s experience in long-term field research among the Sakha(Yakuts) and Buryats, the indigenous peoples of Eastern Siberia, the articledeals with the complications of the field anthropologist’s thinking that theyshould not only understand but also share the mental structures of their subjects. When these subjects were or still are the object of someone else’s colonialsuperpower policy, the researcher feels absolutely obliged to be an advocate,a defender of their subjects. However, along with the sense ofunderstanding and empathy, doubt arises when the researcher is openly criticisedand the oppressors are presented in a positive light. In Siberia such is thecase with the sympathising attitude to the myth of the “Great Patriotic War”.
