A Proposed Hybrid OCR System for Arabic and Indian Numerical Postal Codes 一种阿拉伯和印度数字邮政编码的混合OCR系统

Arabic text recognition offers unique technical challenges and has been addressed more recently in the document analysis research field than other languages. Automatic Arabic/Indian numeral Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system for postal services are used in many countries, but still there are problems in such systems where machines still provide errors in reading the crucial information needed to distribute the mail efficiently. The need to investigate fast and efficient recognition methods is important so as to correctly read the postal codes from mail envelopes. The significance of this study is to recognize essential information, e.g., postal codes from the mail envelopes, by applying the OCR methods. The proposed system is a hybrid of three different feature extraction methods and classification methods. The proposed system, systematically compares the performance of each and every method, and makes sure that the numeral is recognized or rejected. The results provide a recognition rate of 99.4%.

The Construction and Evolution of Learner Model in Adaptive Learning System 自适应学习系统中学习者模型的构建与演化

In light of the present situation research on learner model in Adaptive Learning System at home and abroad, this paper has put forward a new learner model to achieve self-organization and push of learning resources on the basis of learning goals and learner’s personal conditions. It includes knowledge level module, cognitive ability module and preferences module. We respectively introduce the representation methods and reasoning mechanisms of the three modules in detail. After that, we introduce the evolution process of learner model. Experimental results show that this learner model is effective and practical in the application.
针对国内外自适应学习系统中学习者模型的研究现状,本文提出了一种基于学习目标和学习者个人条件,实现学习资源自组织和推送的新型学习者模型。它包括知识水平模块、认知能力模块和偏好模块。详细介绍了三个模块的表示方法和推理机制。然后介绍了学习者模型的演化过程。实验结果表明,该学习模型在实际应用中是有效和实用的。

Enhancement of Microscopic Images Using Modified Self-Adaptive Plateau Histogram Equalization 利用改进的自适应平台直方图均衡化增强显微图像

In this paper, we modified a method known as Self-Adaptive Plateau Histogram Equalization (SAPHE) to enhance microscopic images acquired using optical microscope. First, our method decides the plateau threshold value, automatically; based on the histogram itself. Then, using this plateau threshold, the bins of the histogram are modified. Finally, histogram equalization based on this modified histogram is carried out. Experimental results show that this modified SAPHE method is able to enhance the microscopic images without over amplifying the noise level, as compared with global histogram equalization.

In this research, we aim to conceal a secret data Into the cover image without noticeable degradation. In our approach, Lempel–Ziv–Welch (LZW) compression and set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) codec are used to obtain a low bit rate and high econstructed quality image compression. In the embedding process, an adaptive phase modulation (APM) mechanism and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) were adopted for secret data embedding.

Efficient Enhancement of Microarray Image Using Histogram Specification 利用直方图规范有效增强微阵列图像

In this paper, we propose image enhancement of microarray images using histogram specification method. The proposed approach consists of system model that discuss about finding the type of noise present in the image and enhancing image by removing the noise present in the image. The proposed method is very efficient as it enhances image by revealing most of the microarray spots which is used for subsequent stages of microarray analysis. Performance analysis is done to measure the efficiency by which image is enhanced. The algorithm uses peak signal to noise ratio and mean squared error to quantify the degree of degradation.

Shared Buffer Approach in Fault Tolerant Networks 容错网络中的共享缓冲方法

In this study, we showed that switches that incorporate shared buffer switching elements (SE) provide high buffer utilization and needs least amount of buffer space. One of the main factors that affect the buffering strategy is the buffer management approach. In order to manage the incoming packets in each buffered switching element, two buffer handling techniques are proposed: the first-in-first-out (FIFO) configuration which employs backpressure control flow mechanism and follows the FIFO policy in handling the buffer; and the look-ahead configuration which still follows all the features of the FIFO scheme but uses the buffer only when needed. Tagle-Sharma network is used as a model network. Simulation results show that both schemes give high throughput under uniform random traffic. Introduction of the deadline keeps the delay performance of the network low. One drawback of the look-ahead strategy is that when the packet bypasses the buffer of the current SE, back pressure mechanism is not applied and the packet reaches its destination faster, thus could cause an overflow of buffer in the next stage of the network. The look-ahead scheme offers better transmission delay performance than the FIFO approach.

Remote Sensing Image Fusion Based on Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform and PCA 基于非下采样Contourlet变换和PCA的遥感图像融合

This paper proposes a new method of fusing panchromatic and multispectral images based on NSCT and PCA. The first principle component is obtained by applying PCA on multispectral images. Then fusing the first principle component and low frequent coefficients of panchromatic images after transformed by NSCT. Substituting the fusion data performed by inverse NSCT for the first principle component and applying the inverse PCA transform. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively preserve spectral information and improve spatial information than traditional HSI, PCA and NSCT, and has better subjective visual effect.

This paper focus on the database design for Smart Fuel Consumption Cost Estimator (SFCCE). SFCCE is automated software that calculates the total amount of fuel cost for a car to travel based on the distance given, driving speed, weight capacity and current market fuel price cost. It has been developed by using Visual Basic .Net language and SQL Server database system. By deploying SFCCE, users obtain a summary and the best solution to estimate the minimum cost towards the desired destination.

Collaborative Network for the Development of an Informational System in the SOA Context for the University Management 面向大学管理的SOA环境下信息系统开发的协同网络

Each university is mainly interested in improving higher education and this holds true both at national and international level. At first sight the activities within a university may seem simple, but in reality they are very complex and dynamic, including a wide range of domains and problems. We have to deal with virtual university campuses, virtual professional communities, virtual collaborative laboratories, virtual libraries, dynamic supply networks, e-learning platforms for students, research, planning and controlling, human resources, etc. With a view to improving U-governance we concentrated on creating a collaborative networking based on academic partnership aimed at conceiving an integrated informational system to be implemented and generalized. The informational system is going to be developed in the SOA context.

At first sight the activities within a university may seem simple, but in reality they are very complex and dynamic, including a wide range of domains and problems. We have to deal with virtual university campuses, virtual professional communities, virtual collaborative laboratories, virtual libraries, dynamic supply networks, e-learning platforms for students, research, planning and controlling, human resources, etc. With a view to improving U-governance we concentrated on creating a collaborative networking based on academic partnership aimed at conceiving an integrated informational system to be implemented and generalized. Camera Auto-Calibration Based on Motion Detection for Airborne Traffic Surveillance 基于运动检测的机载交通监控摄像机自动标定

Camera calibration is considered as a fundamental issue in computer vision which has been widely used in visual surveillance. Unfortunately, calibration information is rarely available in airborne traffic surveillance systems because of camera motions, wide-field scenes and dynamic scene structures. In this paper, we propose an automatic method to calibrate camera intrinsic and extrinsic parameters from airborne traffic surveillance videos. First, moving objects in airborne videos are detected by means of global motion estimation and pyramidal optical flow. Next, camera parameters are recovered linearly from vanishing points intersected by orthogonal lines which are estimated by optical flow and appearance of moving objects. Experimental results in different aerial videos indicate the feasibility and the effectiveness of our method which also considerably improves the accuracy of the calibration in airborne traffic surveillance
