THE DEPICTION OF RELIGIOUS CONFLICT IN BHAGAT’S THE GIRL IN ROOM 105 巴格特的《105房间的女孩》中对宗教冲突的描写

This study aims to discuss the issue of religious conflict in Bhagat’s The Girl in Room 105. The objectives of this study are to analyze the religious conflicts and characteristics of the religious conflict reflected in the novel. This study uses descriptive qualitative method using sociological approach and several theories of religious conflict. The result, this study depicts the religious conflicts between by Muslim and Hindu as well as the characteristics of the religious conflict. The religious conflicts are presented in the sphere of belief: conflict between Muslim and Hindu, ideology: conflict between Kashmiri and Indian, organization: conflict between separatist groups of Kashmir against Indian government, family: conflict between Keshav and Zara’s family, and individual: conflict between Zara and Keshav.

UNDERSTANDING BOURDIEU’S DISTINCTION: SOCIAL AND LITERARY CONTESTATION TO GAIN LEGITIMATE POSITION 理解布迪厄的区别:社会与文学之争获得合法地位

This writing reveals the subtle domination in the area of literature and social practice which is illustrated through the practice of coffee consumption and also the claims of legitimate authors. Bourdieu examines this sociological space as a field of contestation, so he constructs his sociological project by mapping the type of social power in arena in which every subject wagers his capital to achieve a legitimate position. In the arena, each subject desires to get power either by way of embracing the rule that applies, doxa, or to fight with the practice of the new, heterodox. Following the existing rules are not able to change anything because it dictates the subject to be a disciplined subject. Bourdieu proposes the emerging heterodox because doing resistance to all forms of domination can give birth to the new alternative social structure and preventing the old one to remain in power. Social change is expected because Bourdieu's symbolic power as in symbolic capital tends to provoke symbolic violence. Having symbolic capital enchanting for its power to subtly dominate people with less capital. Oppression becomes natural due to everyday practice normalizing the oppression. shapes the taste of a certain class as class distinction. Bourdieu’s concept of distinction investigates a more sophisticated strategy in the social arena where every agent plays subtle intimidation and indeed domination.

SISTERHOOD IN ANN M. MARTIN'S BELLE TEAL 安·m·马丁《美女》中的姐妹情谊

A  relationship    called  sisterhood   has  become  an  ordinary   thing  in society.  The  sisterhood   docs  not only  happen  to fellow  women  without  blood  tics but  also  occur   between   relationships    across   generations    of  which   parents   and children  live.  To examine  the occurrence   of sisterhood  relationships   by parents  and children,  the writer  decided  to do a study  on a novel  entitled   Belle Teal by Ann M. Martin.  Using  qualitative  method,  the data  are analysed  descriptively.   By applying feminist   literary  criticism   the writer  discusses   several  problem   statements   which include   the  sisterhood   that  occurs  across   generations   and  how  sisterhood   can  be exposed  to cross-generational    relationships.   From  the analysis,   it can  be concludedthat  sisterhood   can  occur  across-generation.    Mutual   caring,  intimacy   and  shared activity   can  enhance   and  expose   sisterhood   relationship   among   the  perpetrators. Sisterhood   also  has a positive   impact  that  can  make  a person  have  a more  godly thought  than before.

SEXUAL HAZING AND ABUSE PHENOMENA IN TONI MORRISON THE BLUEST EYE 《托妮·莫里森最蓝的眼睛》中的性欺侮和性虐待现象

This essay focuses the discussion on sexual hazing and sexual abuse phenomena which had happened to several roles in Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye. The method used was a descriptive confirmatory method meaning the method approached and analyzed the study based on the confirmation of the theory and data from its own novel. In addition, this essay applied some points about socialist feminism as the additional reference of discussion. Socialist feminism itself is a branch of feminism that focuses upon both the public and private spheres of women’s life and argues that liberation can only be achieved by working to end both the economic and cultural resources of women’s oppression. The result showed Cholly had an sexual experience with humiliation, Frieda who was experienced abuse from Mr. Henry as well as Pecola, the lead role of this novel who had sexual hazing through rape.

CHARACTERISTICS OF EFL STUDENTS RESEARCH PROPOSALS: HOW RESEARCH STUDENTS ESTABLISH THEIR RESEARCH TERRITORY 英语学生研究建议的特点:研究学生如何建立自己的研究领域

This study investigates characteristics of EFL students's academic writing, particularly students research proposals. This study aims to uncover how novice researchers introduce their research topics within the larger research area. In particular, this study focuses on how students establish their research territory in the introductory parts of their proposals. This study focuses on students knowledge and preparation for conducting scientific research and the structural characteristics of students's research proposals. The study is based in Swales(1990) CARS Model for research article organization. This descriptive qualitative study involves 136 student proposals collected from 6th semester bachelor students majoring in English who enrolled in Research of Language classes in four academic years 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018. Analysis of students topics indicates that most students are not yet well-prepared for conducting research. Analysis of the structural characteristics of the proposal also shows that students lacked substantial knowledge on research area or disciplines as well as scientific writing, particularly research writing, that detriment their success for entering the research community. Serious pedagogical and training efforts need to be done to improve students ability and preparation for research.

GAY REPRESENTATION IN BECKY ALBERTALLI'S SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA 贝基·阿尔伯塔利的《西蒙与智人议程》中的同性恋代表

This study aims to reveal gay habitus in Becky Albertalli's Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda. This study is descriptive qualitative which applies both intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The intrinsic approach is applied due to the fact that the study deals with the characterization of the main character in the novel. Moreover, the sociological approach is applied because the study is primarily concerned with a social phenomenon reflected in  literary work as the novel portrays the representation of gay habitus reflected in the attitude and behaviours of one of the main characters in the novel. In revealing the gay habitus reflected in the novel, Bourdieu's theory of habitus is applied. The discussion is focused on the Simon's habitation as a gay and the factors that contribute to the formation of Simon's habitus as a gay. The result of the study shows that Simon develops gay habitus. The representations of his gay habitus include are having no attraction to the opposite sex, adoring the same sex, obsessing and fantasizing about the same sex, feeling jealous and cynical to the suspected competitors, and falling in love with the same sex. There are two factors that support the development of Simon's gay habitus i.e. primary and secondary socialization.

This study is descriptive qualitative which applies both intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The intrinsic approach is applied due to the fact that the study deals with the characterization of the main character in the novel. Moreover, the sociological approach is applied because the study is primarily concerned with a social phenomenon reflected in  literary work as the novel portrays the representation of gay habitus reflected in the attitude and behaviours of one of the main characters in the novel. In revealing the gay habitus reflected in the novel, Bourdieu's theory of habitus is applied. The discussion is focused on the Simon's habitation as a gay and the factors that contribute to the formation of Simon's habitus as a gay. The result of the study shows that Simon develops gay habitus. The representations of his gay habitus include are having no attraction to the opposite sex, adoring the same sex, obsessing and fantasizing about the same sex, feeling jealous and cynical to the suspected competitors, and falling in love with the same sex. Women's Struggle against Patriarchy: An Analysis of Radical Feminism Through Nadia Hashimi's A House Without Windows 女性对父权制的抗争:从Nadia Hashimi的《没有窗户的房子》看激进女权主义

Under twenty years of war, women in Afghanistan suffer from oppressive situations and rules resulting in inequality and injustice. Afghanistan women face difficulties at all levels of Afghanistan patriarchal society. Male domination is the root cause of damaging to women’s rights in Afghanistan that brings impact to inferiority of Afghanistan women. Using radical feminism by Kate Millet, this paper tries to describe the struggle of Afghanistan women in gaining opportunities to move forward in their society. The analysis is focused on the female characters who deal with problem solving to their unfair condition such as Zeba, Gulnaz, Latifa, , Mezghan, Bibi Shireen, the wife of judge Najeeb, Sitara, Meena, and Aneesa. They begin to build self-consciousness, to demand autonomy in decision making, to declare resistance to be controlled by the men, and to get their basic rights such as the right to speak, the right to get education, and the right to work to earn money. The strong self-awareness and determination as reflected from the female characters are the women’s primary step to get rid of male domination and to proceed in their lives as well as in their society. Through this literary evidence, radical feminism emphasizes that women’s efforts to protect their rights means approval that inequality and lack of opportunities for women still happen

REPRESENTATION OF NYI RORO KIDUL IN MYTH, LEGEND, AND POPULAR CULTURE 在神话、传说和流行文化中对日本人的描述

Nyi Roro Kidul, Nyai Loro Kidul, or Nyai Ratu Kidul is a character of folk legend which has existed  all along south coast of Java land: from East Java, to Middle Java and Jogjakarta, then to West Java and Banten. People along the south coast of Java island believe to myth of this legendary character as a beautiful and supernatural woman who has authority of devil realm in Indonesian Ocean (Indian Ocen) or Segoro Kidul (South Sea). The popularity of Nyi Roro Kidul has also become motivation for national film-making and TV media to produce many films and drama about this character. Although there are many similarities about the revelation, among regions, legend and mass culture (film, TV); the representations of Nyi Roro Kidul show differences in theme emphasis.  In East Javanese people, Nyi Roro Kidul is emphasized on the intention of people seeking wealth pesugihan (with the helping from devils) by sacrificing human soul for antidote. In Middle Javanese people, Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is representated as the take turn-wife of Sultans from Mataram, Sultan Panembahan Senopati to Sultans of Jogjakarta in the present time. The west Javanese people represents this figure as the princess of Pakuan Pajajaran Kingdom who is betrayed and abused, and throw away herself to jump into South Sea, then she incarnates as a beautiful and undefeated supernatural queen. On film and television, Nyi Roro Kidul is presented as a beautiful, sexy, cruel and sexual adventurer woman.
