Maximizing the return on investment for FTTX-rollout through the use of GIS street maps and geomarketing data 通过使用GIS街道地图和地理营销数据,最大限度地提高fttx的投资回报

Over the last decade the bandwidth required for services such as High Definition TV and Internet has grown explosively. Telecom operators are developing business cases evaluating the deployment of high speed Fiber to the Home (FTTH) networks. The major limiting factor is the deployment cost, mostly related to civil works. Consequently, telecom operators often hesitate to invest and delay the deployment of FTTH networks or opt for gradual and slow deployment. Current FTTH deployment strategies are often motivated by business cases focused on cost aspects. This leads to a deployment strategy minimizing the cost or - for a fixed investment - maximizing the network coverage. This paper introduces a new methodology that identifies the optimal areas for deployment by maximizing the overall return on investment. Through the combination of GIS-based network design and geomarketing-based revenue projections, an increase in revenue of more than 10% can be obtained for the same initial investment.

Economical analysis of experience-optimized service delivery 体验优化服务交付的经济分析

This paper evaluates the potential market for experience-optimized service delivery also known as Quality of Experience (QoE). The competitive environment, market potential as well as revenue and cost estimations are part of the analysis that has been conducted within the EUREKA CELTIC project RUBENS. Major findings imply an implicit demand for QoE that remains to be explicated and initiated. A major driver for QoE technologies is the need for network operators to be able to deliver new, personalized and video related services with the quality levels that customers expect. This driver goes along with expected network congestion in the future and the wish for network efficiency increases. This results in the need for access and aggregation networks to become more cost efficient, whereas increasing expenditures for control and application servers would be coherent to customer expectations.

Parking sensor network: Economic feasibility study of parking sensors in a city environment is well 泊车传感器网络:对城市环境下泊车传感器的经济可行性进行了较好的研究

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have a variety of purposes. They are mainly used for monitoring environmental factors, like CO2 concentrations, temperature and humidity. Other applications of sensor networks focus on detecting traffic parameters, e.g. passenger flows, damaged roads and traffic lights. This paper extends the current research with an economic feasibility of a real case, deploying a wireless parking sensor network in a city environment. After modeling the service adoption, the costs and revenues of the project are estimated. The static Net Present Value (NPV) case is already highly profitable. However, like most network projects, WSNs offer many flexibility options. A business case is extended with a Real Option Analysis (ROA), in order to quantify the value of the learning possibilities. We show that the built-in flexibility in the original project raises the attractiveness of the project.

Bringing ICT services to trains technical and economical challenges 将信息通信技术服务引入技术和经济挑战

In recent years ICT technology is gaining importance to the railway environment, more specific in the networking on-board of trains. One of the first drivers was the “always connected” idea for mobile users, but in the mean time this idea has evolved beyond providing pure Internet access for passengers, to a better way of managing the trains in all aspects. This includes comfort services like passenger info screens, or cost saving applications like remote maintenance and software upgrades, or security related applications like CCTV and PA. This paper discusses the most problematic issue of these services: how to establish and maintain a communication channel between fast moving trains and the ground, in an economical way.

The local authorities, in particular via Delegations of Public Utility (DPU), develop telecommunications infrastructures which often duplicate infrastructures of the incumbent operator. Such infrastructures are financed partly by public subsidies which must allow competition to develop, even in the non-profitable zones, in order to improve consumer choice and the prices.

Decoupling of revenues and traffic - Is there a revenue gap for mobile broadband? 收入与流量的脱钩——移动宽带是否存在收入缺口?

Mobile broadband is increasing rapidly both when it comes to traffic and the number of subscriptions. Operators are challenged by the fact that revenues from mobile broadband are de-coupled from the traffic. In this paper we will analyze if this de-coupling results in a “revenue gap” for the combined voice and mobile broadband business and, if this is the case, how significant the gap is. We analyze a country and operator case where the increasing user demand requires network upgrades. The impact of increasing traffic, revenues and costs is analyzed in terms of profit margin for the voice and mobile broadband businesses. The results show that the overall profit for the modeled operator decreases due to declining voice revenues. The contribution from mobile broadband depends heavily on the amount of traffic growth and prices.

This study provides a model for analyzing the new perspectives for investors in the broadband business field. It integrates real options, SWOT analysis and fuzzy logic into a decision analysis framework for formulating and evaluating such business opportunities. Finally, we discuss a real case study in the specific business field showing how the model can be formulated and solved.
