Effect of physical layer bandwidth variation on TCP performance in cdma2000 cdma2000中物理层带宽变化对TCP性能的影响

A cdma2000/spl trade/ end user can experience wide variations in the physical layer bandwidth allocated to him. This happens as a result of a high rate supplemental channel (SCH) being allocated and deallocated to the user in a bursty manner. This swing of physical layer rates can have an adverse effect on the end-end TCP operation, i.e., this rate variation can cause TCP timeouts and retransmissions even though no packet was lost on the physical layer. In this paper, we study this effect in detail. First, we propose a simple model for TCP over cdma2000. Using this model and subsequent analysis, we study the effects of different TCP parameters and different burst parameters (rate and duration) on the operation of TCP. We perform extensive lab tests to investigate how different TCP parameters and physical layer data rates affect the TCP throughput. Although the studies are done for a cdma2000 system, the results and conclusions hold in general for any system running TCP over a physical layer with varying bandwidth.

Parallel interference cancellation receiver performance in the presence of TDMA interference 有时分多址干扰时并行干扰消除接收机的性能

The 3G telecommunication system uses DS-CDMA as air interface. It has been proven many times in the literature that CDMA based multiple access methods are inherently interference resistant, but in some cases the performance of the DS-CDMA is decreasing due to the interference. In this paper, we discuss about nearby TDMA based cellular system and its effects to the performance of the DS-CDMA system. We will discuss about the load and cell capacity issues also in this paper. The basic receivers are rake and parallel interference canceller (PIC) receiver, i.e. no special attention is paid to suppress the TDMA originated interference. We will show the effects of the TDMA interference to both rake and PIC receiver performance. We do not include the other cell interference in this treatment.

A novel blind adaptive equalization in time-varying channels with ISI 一种具有ISI的时变信道盲自适应均衡方法

This paper addresses novel adaptive blind equalization for time-varying channels with inter-symbol interference (ISI). In this paper, a combined receiver structure using the CMA and Kalman filters investigated to utilize the advantages of both algorithms: a simple implementation for a blind algorithm and tracking capability. Based on this receiver structure, we present two techniques to improve the performance and reduce the complexity of channel equalization. One is a new cost function, which achieves faster convergence to adapt time variation of the channels. The other is termed a prior ISI reduction scheme, which reduces ISI before equalization and in turn leads to low-complexity equalization. The performance of our algorithms is confirmed by the mean square error (MSE) analysis and computer simulations.

Maximum diversity detection for layered space-time codes 分层空时码的最大分集检测

We propose a new iterative signal processing algorithm, which can be seen as an extension of many well-known detection algorithms for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels, e.g. zero-forcing (ZF) and successive nulling and cancellation algorithms. In this paper, we apply our algorithm to the VBLAST algorithm proposed by [Wolniansky, PW, et al., 1998] and the ZF algorithm. We show, that our approach takes advantage of the maximum available diversity level to improve the initial data estimate obtained by nulling the cancellation (or ZF) algorithm with a minimum additional effort. Simulation results show significant improvements in comparison to ZF and the regular VBLAST system considered in [Wolniansky, PW, et al., 1998] in terms of complexity and performance.

Outer loop power control using channel-adaptive processing for 3G WCDMA 基于信道自适应处理的3G WCDMA外环功率控制

In power control systems for wide-band code division multiple-access (WCDMA), the outer loop power control (OLPC) algorithm initially sets a target signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) based on the required target block error rate (BLER), assuming a particular channel condition. A mismatch between the BLER and the target SIR usually results since the actual and assumed channel conditions are rarely the same. This mismatch tends to be especially large at very low BLERs. The OLPC depends on cyclic redundancy checks (CRCs) and often takes a long time to converge to the required target SIR for low target BLERs. In this paper, a channel-adaptive algorithm is presented that controls the target SIR for downlink transmission in WCDMA TDD. The proposed algorithm characterizes the multipath channel profile using predefined multipath channel patterns and compensates for the channel/mapping errors. Link level simulations are conducted in various channel conditions defined by 3GPP and the ITU. The comparison in performance between the channel-adaptive algorithm and the generic "jump algorithm" is illustrated and conclusions are drawn.

The aim of this paper is to quantify the performance of a W-CDMA system in dependency of a giver power delay profile (PDP) and channel estimation errors. The analysis extends the previously published work by Adachi [F. Adachi, Nov. 1997], which assumes ideal channel estimation and multipath tracking. For the analytical expressions a particular channel estimation technique was taken into account and a practical pilot symbol assisted technique was used to derive the channel estimation error. By combining both, the performance degradation due to multiple access interference (MAI) and due to channel estimation errors, an easy to use conditional SINR is derived. Assuming BPSK data modulation for simplicity, the downlink performance in terms of the average BER-vs.-SINR was evaluated by means of Monte Carlo simulation for different PDPs. It could be shown that the performance severely depends on the power distribution of the multipath components and the available number of pilot symbols, which determines the reliability of the estimated channel necessary to perform coherent demodulation.

Sequence adaptation for cellular systems 细胞系统的序列适应

We consider the sequence adaptation problem for multi-cell asynchronous CDMA systems. We propose a new interference measure that reflects the actual correlation between users. It is shown that Nash equilibria exist in such system. We also propose a distributed sequence adaptation scheme that provides us a significant gain over the existing systems. It is also remarkable that in this macro-diversity system, the MMSE receivers for the optimal sequences are not equal to the matched filters in general.

Average outage duration of multihop communication systems with regenerative relays 带再生中继的多跳通信系统的平均中断时间

Closed-form expressions for the average outage duration of multihop regenerative communication systems over generalized fading channels are presented. These results are general and account for the noise-limited and interference-limited systems. To show the usefulness of the presented expressions, some specific fading scenarios are considered. Finally, some numerical examples of interest comparing direct and relayed transmission, and studying the effect of increasing the number of hops and/or co-channel interferences are plotted and discussed.

Joint connection level, packet level and link layer resource allocation in mobile cellular networks with QoS constraints 具有QoS约束的移动蜂窝网络中的联合连接级、分组级和链路层资源分配

An approximate analytical formulation of the resource allocation problem for handling multiclass on/off services in a cellular system is presented. The novelty in this paper is that all quality of service requirements at the connection level, packet level and link layer are satisfied simultaneously, instead of being satisfied only at the connection level or only at the link layer. It also shows how the QoS in the different layers is intertwined across the layers. A complete sharing policy at the connection channels is used for the resource sharing a K-dimensional Markov chain. Numerical results illustrate that a higher gain in system utilization is achieved through the joint optimization of connection/packet levels and link layer.

An OFDM receiver employing turbo equalization for multipath environments with delay spread greater than the guard interval 一种用于延迟扩展大于保护间隔的多径环境的采用turbo均衡的OFDM接收机

This paper proposes a new OFDM turbo equalizer for mobile radio communications in the multipath environments where the delay difference is greater than the guard interval. In the OFDM transmission, the excess delay causes both inter-symbol interference (ISI) to the adjacent OFDM symbols and inter-carrier interference (ICI) within the same symbol. The proposed equalizer consists of the decision feedback equalizer for ISI cancellation and the low-complexity turbo equalizer for ICI cancellation. The latter consists of an ICI canceller, the optimal detection filter and a MAP detector. The iterative joint processing of the equalization and the decoding can effectively reduce ICI. Moreover, an ISI combiner is introduced so as to exploit the signal energy leaked to the next symbol. Computer simulations for the 5 GHz wireless LAN outdoor applications show that the proposed OFDM equalizer can effectively cancel both ISI and ICI, and that its performance is much better than that of the conventional coherent detector.
