Structural Equation Model for a Relationship between Family Support Systems and Alcohol Addiction Recovery: Mediation Effect of Continuing Care Services 家庭支持系统与戒酒之间关系的结构方程模型:持续关怀服务的中介效应

Purpose: Alcohol use disorder continues to be a public health concern, and even after treatment, the relapse rate is still high. The family support systems are closely related to alcohol addiction recovery. However, studies on psychological mechanisms between the two are rare. Therefore, we aimed to explore the mediating role of continuing care services in the pathway between family support systems and alcohol addiction recovery among individuals with alcohol use disorder. Methods: A total of 196 participants from 5 treatment centers (Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital, Serenity Centre, Recovery Solutions, National Care Centre, and Hope and Beyond) were selected from a target population of 400 individuals. The structural equation modeling approach was used to assess the study objective. Results: The average alcohol addiction recovery status score was 3.03 (SD = 0.95). The mediation analysis indicated that continuing care services mediated the pathway between family support systems and alcohol addiction recovery. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Motivational enhancement therapy, mutual health support, and cognitive behavioral therapy are key factors in the relationship between family support systems and alcohol addiction recovery.

Leadership Styles of Head teachers in Relation to Teachers’ Job Satisfaction: A Case Study of the Volta Region – Ghana 校长的领导风格与教师工作满意度的关系:加纳沃尔特地区案例研究

Purpose: The present study focuses on exploring the leadership styles of basic school headteachers, and their effects on teachers’ job satisfaction in Ghana’s Volta region. Methodology: Two research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The study was conducted in the Volta region of Ghana. The population of the study are 3,009 headteachers and 17,889 teachers in the 18 districts in the Volta Region. The sample size of the study was 191 headteachers and 328 teachers. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to draw the sample size. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and Mohrman-Cooke-Mohrman Job Satisfaction Scale (MCMJSS) was adopted for the study. Findings: It was found that headteachers identified moderate levels of transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire as the leadership styles adopted by headteachers. Also, the majority of the headteachers had a very low level of job satisfaction whereas the majority of the teachers had a very high level of job satisfaction. Among the three leadership styles, transformational (β = .47, p < .001) and laissez-faire leadership styles (β = .19, p = .002) were the only significant predictors of job satisfaction. Both transformational and laissez-faire forms of leadership were positive predictors of job satisfaction. Unique Contributor to Theory, Policy and Practice: The results shows that headteachers identified moderate levels of transformational (M = 7.68, SD = 0.83), transactional (M = 7.51, SD = 1.15), and laissez-faire (M = 6.94, SD = 1.89) as the leadership styles adopted by headteachers. It shows that 128 (71.9%) of the headteachers had a very low level of job satisfaction, while 30 (16.9%) had a very high level of job satisfaction. On the contrary, 153 (52.8%) of the teachers had a very high level of job satisfaction while 21 (7.1%) had a very low level of job satisfaction. The three leadership styles; transformational (β = .47, p < .001) and laissez-faire leadership styles (β = .19, p = .002) were the only significant predictors of job satisfaction. Both transformational and laissez-faire forms of leadership were positive predictors of job satisfaction.  Based on the findings of the study, relevant conclusions were drawn.

Influence of Retirement Experiences on Psychological Well-Being of Retired Teachers in East Gonja Municipality, Ghana 退休经历对加纳东贡贾市退休教师心理健康的影响

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the influence of retirement experiences on psychological well-being of retired teachers in the East Gonja Municipality. The study employed a quantitative approach underpinned by analytical cross-sectional design. The target population of the study comprised of retired teachers in the East Gonja Municipality. A total of 320 retired teachers from East Gonja Municipality were purposively selected to constitute the sample for the study. Methodology: Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE) and Psychological Well-Being Scale were adopted for data collection. Data was analysed using means and standard deviation and linear regression. Findings: The study found that most of the retired teachers in the East Gonja Municipality in the Savannah Region of Ghana experience positive emotions, express optimism, and are satisfied with their lives in their retirement phase of life. Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice: The study concludes that retirement experiences are unique and can be a liberating experience for retired teachers, where they can pursue their interests and hobbies without any restrictions. It is recommended that retirement should be a time for retired teachers to focus on their health and well-being, a time they can pursue activities that promote physical and mental health. This study recommends to education system to provide pre-retirement counselling and post-retirement support programmes, focusing on mental health and well-being. Also, the study recommends to pension and retirement agencies to develop and implement workshops and peer support programmes to promote retired teachers’ psychological well-being, addressing issues of social isolation and identity loss.

But : L’examen de l’influence de la perception de l’échec sur la motivation scolaire des étudiants est l’objectif que se donne cet article. Méthodologie : Pour atteindre celui-ci, les données de l’enquête de terrain auprès de 84 étudiants issus de la deuxième année en Faculté de Lettres et des Sciences Humaines (FLSH) à l’Université de Douala en situation d’échec sont soumises à des analyses descriptives et inférentielles. Résultats : Les résultats du rhô de Spearman obtenus de l’analyse du questionnaire d’autoévaluation et du « motivomètre » relèvent que le niveau de motivation scolaire est très bas chez ces étudiants et cela semble dû à une mauvaise perception qu’ils ont construite autour de leur échec précédent. En effet, les analyses ont montré un effet positif et significatif des représentations sociales de l’échec, des clichés du nombre d’échec et des croyances autour de l’échec sur la motivation scolaire chez ces étudiants. Dès lors, il semble nécessaire pour l’Etat et les Universités en place de décider de rendre l’accès de ces étudiants plus facile aux cellules d’écoute et d’accompagnement psychopédagogique. Contributeur Unique A La Théorie Politiques, Aux Et A La Pratique : Ceci par les moyens de la sensibilisation permanente et médiatisée sur l’importance de rencontrer régulièrement un conseiller d’orientation et/ou un psychologue scolaire. Et aussi la nécessité d’impliquer les familles afin d’influencer les cognitions sociales qui entourent l’échec scolaire et par la même occasion de réduire la déperdition scolaire.

Purpose: The study focused on the effect of sexual and gender-based violence on the psycho-socio development of in-school adolescents in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria. One hundred randomly selected in-school Adolescents girls constitute the sample of the study. Methodology: The study adopted descriptive survey method as a research design. Chi-square statistical method was used to analyze the data gathered from the respondents. Findings: The findings of the study indicated that sexual and gender based violence have significant effects on the psychosocial development of in-school adolescent girls. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: Among others, it was recommended that all hands must be on deck to protect adolescent girls from being victims of these psychological threat and evil trend in our societies. The findings of this study will assist policy makers both in Educational sector and society at large to come up with policies that will protect Adolescent male and female from being a victim of sexual and gender base violence

Purpose: To investigate the psychological impact of dental aesthetics, specifically the effect of a perfect smile, on adults. Methodology: A random cross-sectional research was conducted on 200 adult patients who attended the dentistry facilities at Riyadh Elm University. To determine patient satisfaction with their overall dental look, an online questionnaire will be used. This cross-sectional research included REU patients and dentistry students. Adults over the age of 18 were all included in the study. Findings: On visible teeth numbers majority selected the second option, on the buccal corridor was option 2 and 3 equally, on smile lip line was first while on lower lip touching again was 2 and 3r equally. The majority of them never had any problem because of mouth or teeth in word pronunciations, in the sense of taste. However, the majority have painful aching in the mouth occasionally. The majority of participants never felt embarrassed and irritable because of any teeth problem. The majority of participants never had difficulty in their usual job doing, less satisfy and unable to function because of any teeth problem. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: The paper provides unique insights into the psychological impact of a perfect smile on adults, highlighting its role in enhancing self-esteem and quality of life. It suggests that aesthetic dentistry is not just about physical health but also mental well-being. These findings can guide policy development and practice in dentistry, emphasizing holistic patient care.

Psychosocial Experiences and Challenges of Pregnant Teenagers in GA South Municipality GA南部市怀孕少女的心理社会经验和挑战

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the psychosocial challenges of pregnant teenagers in Ga South Municipality. The specific objectives were to:  explore the nature of teenage pregnancies, assess psychological challenges affecting pregnant teenagers, assess social challenges of pregnant teenagers and suggest counselling interventions that can ameliorate identified challenges. Methodology: The research design used in this study was qualitative because the study aimed to understand the psychosocial experiences of teenage mothers in schools. The study used a purposive sampling method which is an example of non-probability sampling technique. Pregnant teenagers between ages 10-19 were recruited and in-depth interview (IDI) was carried out. The IDI was chosen because it gives more information on sensitive issues. Data processing and analysis started on the day of the in-depth interview. Findings: The study revealed that multiple factors contribute to the high levels of teenage pregnancy in the Ga South Municipality and most pregnant teenagers go through a lot of psychosocial challenges. The results and findings show that the canker of teenage pregnancy requires a multi-faceted approach at both structural and individual levels to tackle the challenge. Furthermore, poverty and low levels of living conditions in rural areas contributed greatly to high incidence of teenage pregnancy as observed in Ga South Municipality Area. It is recommended that; Ghana Education Service will need to revise its curriculum and enable teachers enhance their knowledge and skills in teenage sexual health and values clarification sessions. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: Churches and other religious bodies should educate their members about the effects of teenage pregnancy and its impacts on children through counseling and also plan for activities that mostly involve marriage couples.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to find out the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Individual Psychology (IP) in the reduction of suicide ideation among undergraduate students in the University of Cape Coast. Methodology: It was a quantitative study using the quasi-experimental research design, specifically, the pre-test, post-test and control group design.   A total of 30 undergraduate students from four colleges of the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana were non- randomly assigned to two treatment groups (CBT and IP) and one control group. Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation was used for the collection of data for the study. Both the descriptive (frequency and percentage) and inferential (dependent samples t-test and independent samples t-test) statistics were used to analyse the data at the alpha level of .05. Findings: The study revealed that CBT and IP are effective in reducing suicide ideation among undergraduate students at University Cape Coast. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: It was recommended that screening for suicide ideation among students be carried out on a regular basis organised by the Counselling Centre. This is with the intention of helping to educate them and creating more awareness on suicide ideation among students thereby bringing in more people per the screening to benefit from the therapies

Methodology: It was a quantitative study using the quasi-experimental research design, specifically, the pre-test, post-test and control group design.   A total of 30 undergraduate students from four colleges of the University were non-randomly assigned to two treatment groups (IP and CBT) and one control group. Methodology: A mixed methods approach was used in which a quasi-experimental research design, specifically, the pre-test, post-test and control group design was combined with a qualitative phase. A total of 30 undergraduate students from four colleges of the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana were non- randomly assigned to two treatment groups Individual Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (IP and CBT) and one control group. Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation was used for the collection of data for the study. To assess the individual characteristics that predispose undergraduate students of UCC, Chi square test for association was employed as an appropriate tool for the analysis. Findings: The study revealed that age, gender, program of study and level of study of the students have significant association with students who are predisposed to suicide ideation. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: It was recommended that constant screening of suicide ideation be done as part of the University’s program to be organised by the Counselling Center. This is to help educate and create more awareness on suicide ideation and bring in more people per the screening to benefit from counselling therapies which in turn will help reduce suicide ideation on our campus.
