Abstract The results of the analysis of the survey data to identify students with their relation to the assessment of the physical qualities and their own level of physical fitness, in particular - endurance. It was found that the students understand the important influence of endurance and its importance in solving the problems of preparation for employment, and they realize that it is the physical quality of most of them have developed worse than the others solve. One of the main tasks of physical education students during their studies in higher education is to strengthen and improve their health and continue the process of forming their need for physical education. Young people who entered the university, falls under the influence of unusual social factors associated with the need of creative assimilation of large amounts of information, due to the necessity of forming specific professional skills and abilities, and unusual conditions of student life. Feeling discomfort occurs primarily in junior student. This phenomenon can be called “the inability of young people to study in higher education” and it is associated with the following factors: differences in methods and organization of teaching at the university, which differ from school and require a significant increase in autonomy in learning educational material; between the lack of well-established personal relationships, that the contact group, which is typical for a new team in its formative stages; the destruction of the life of the old stereotype that has emerged over the years of schooling, and the formation of a new, “university”; new worries for admission to universities associated with the planning and organization of its educational and free time. To overcome this “university” discomfort of the young man required a significant investment of physical, mental and moral strength. In order to offset the costs of these forces called physical education, which should also be part of preparing students for future careers. Also do not forget that the system- function physical training has two mutually caused facets – pedagogical (educational) and social (recreational), which suggests the modern physical culture as a holistic socio – educational system, the main function of which is health and educational that modern students do not have to be mentioned. Keywords: Interest, Aerobic classes, A positive attitude, General and Special endurance, Physical qualities, Athletic orientation.

Abstract A recent petition to transition Women’s and Men’s Divisions National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division-I cross-country (XC) championships to a common distance of 8-km has been denied. This decision was made without access to published, quantitative assessments comparing the metabolic profiles of runners at their current, respective race distances. This study examined the magnitude of metabolic discrepancies between female (n=14) and male (n=17) runners at previous season personal best (PB) pace for conference championship race distances (female 5-km; 19.27 ± 0.89 min and male 8-km; 26.12 ± 1.23 min). Treadmill grade was set at 1% while metabolic variables were collected via indirect calorimetry and averaged for minutes 4 and 5 during a run at PB pace. Significant differences (p< 0.05) were found between female and male runners for percentage of 60 s V̇ O2peak (96.8 ± 5.5% vs 88.6 ± 7.5%) and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) (1.03 ± 0.06 vs 0.99 ± 0.04), respectively. Data were further analyzed within sex by comparing the fastest and slowest half runners. Despite ~7% difference in PB, highest and lowest half performers did not differ from each other for fractional utilization or RER at PB. It is not surprising that metabolic profiles differed between sexes however, these marked differences suggest that Men’s and Women’s Division runners are competing in physiologically distinct events. This evidence should be given consideration in decision making for future NCAA XC championship race distance selection. Keywords: Respiratory Exchange Ratio, VO2peak, Fractional Utilization, Gender, Sex, Title IX.

Abstract The study examined the factors hindering female participation in sporting activities in Nigerian senior secondary schools. A descriptive research design type of survey was employed for the study, and a selfstructured questionnaire was used to collect information from a sample of 539 female secondary school students. Primary data collected were used to analyze descriptive statistics. Relative Importance Analysis was used to achieve the Relative Importance Index and to identify the factors that hinder female participation in sports in Sokoto State, Nigeria. From the findings, it was revealed that the female student cannot combine academic work with sports, and are mostly sidelined in sports activities. Also, the school policy does not give opportunities for sports participation by making it compulsory, but the female student does crave sports participation which is not supported by their parent. Finally, funds are not released for the development of sports facilities in secondary schools in Sokoto State, Nigeria. From the holistic point of view, secondary senior school policy on sport is the major factor hindering female participation in sports in Sokoto State, Nigeria. From the findings, recommendations were drawn that academic curriculum should be redesigned and flexible such that it will give room for a female student to manage academic stress and be able to participate in sporting activities; private and public stakeholders should participate in funding sporting activities in the Nigerian senior secondary schools; and the secondary school policy programs should be formulated in such a way that female will be inclusive in sport participation. Keywords: Hindering factors, female, sports participation, secondary schools, Nigeria.
