Family farming has different dynamics and characteristics compared to non-family farming. In it, the management of the property is shared by the family and agricultural productive activity is the main source of income. The objective of this study is to evaluate and characterize the participation of women in the context of family farming. The study chose to use descriptive qualitative research. The qualitative approach provided a more in-depth study of the women's perception of their role in family farming activities and the existing gender relations in the context of the division of labor in the municipality. The questions were based on the economic and social reality in which the rural workers met. The questions were directed mainly to the women, but they had interviewees of the masculine gender. For the data collection, a questionnaire was elaborated with 8 (eight) questions, four of them directed to the participation of women and to sustainable practices. The other four questions focused on the extension / technical assistance of the municipality. Based on the questions, she noted that in the question of sustainability and agroecological practices, women are the great incentive, and that families already perform some sustainable practices, passed from generation to generation; Another question was related to the relevance of women in agricultural activities, where they do not feel valued before men. Finally, the question was raised about inefficient technical assistance, which did not meet the needs of family farmers, and treated women as irrelevant in this process (dialogue and assistance).
