Design and analysis of photonic crystal spectral diversity filters for biosensing 生物传感用光子晶体光谱分集滤波器的设计与分析

We present a systematic method for designing spectral diversity filters using 2D and 3D photonic crystals. These filters convert an incoherent input beam with uniform spectral content over the input dimension into a desired nonuniform spatial-spectral pattern. Such spectral diversity filters can be used for designing compact spectrometers that can be used for the detection of Raman signatures in biosensors.

Cluster heating by a strong laser field is studied using a particle-in-cell code (PIC) for a range of intensities and cluster sizes. Above a threshold intensity, heating is dominated by a nonlinear resonant absorption process.

We directly measured the optical gain, refractive index change, and the linewidth enhancement factor of a type-II quantum-cascade laser. We obtained very low linewidth enhancement factor of 0.83 near threshold.

We experimentally demonstrate a threshold reduction of a semiconductor laser by optically pumping with spin-polarized electrons. Calculations show that a threshold reduction by 50% is possible even for electrically pumped lasers.

We report of an Yb:KYW thin disk amplifier system to provide ultra short pulses with high energies at high repetition rates. Without using chirped pulse amplification, 100 /spl mu/J, 750 fs pulses were generated at repetition rates of up to 45 kHz.

We report on spectral-hole-burning-based instantaneous spectral analysis of optically carried broadband radio frequency signals. We have demonstrated 100-channel operation over 3.3 GHz bandwidth. We discuss future steps towards 10 GHz bandwidth and 1000-channel operation.
