Web-based Scoring System 网上评分系统

This study aims to provide a scoring system that can generate results faster and accurately. It covered the design, development, and evaluation of the web-based scoring system intended for beauty pageants. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) model of system development emphasized the development cycle using a component-based construction approach. The developed scoring system was evaluated by the selected statistician, committees of the beauty pageant, and Information Technology (IT) experts. This study used a descriptive research design that employs a questionnaire to assess the functionality, efficiency, reliability, and usability of the developed scoring system. The results showed that the end-users consider the scoring system a highly usable software quality. Therefore, the researchers recommend the implementation of the web-based beauty pageant scoring system in the institute during pageant events for accurate, fast, easy to use, and efficient scoring.

Usability Heuristics and Explicit Analysis of UI Design for Optimum User Experience: The Case of Pili (Canarium ovatum Engl.) Information System and Marketplace 可用性启发式和最佳用户体验UI设计的显式分析:以Pili为例(Canarium ovatum Engl)资讯系统及市场

The intricateness and dynamism of any software development project are viewed as prevailing attributes that affect its outcome. However, explicit utilization of recognized software development principles and standards ensures a higher possibility of achieving greater success. This paper presents the results of the efforts in the design and development of Comprehensive Pili (Canarium ovatum Engl.) Information System and Marketplace particularly the user experiences. This project was funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) with the intention of establishing a dynamic web of knowledge for the Pili industry, thus addressing the dearth of accessible Pili information. The development process follows strict adherence to PiliIS and Marketplace Software Development Paradigm - researchers made software development procedures adopting the Agile software development concepts. This paradigm ensures explicit compliance to ISO/IEC 25010 standards. An internal evaluation team was employed to examine the user interface judging its compliance with the recognized usability principles. A diverse group of stakeholders evaluated the system following Jakob Nielsen’s principles for interaction design. Complying to these highly recognized software quality standards and adhering to the researchers’ paradigm, the developed software was marked by stakeholders as “highly usable”, “highly acceptable” and “highly reliable” with average ratings of 94.65%, 93.71%, and 93.53%, respectively. Additionally, Philippine Pili Industry League, Inc. (PhilPili) rated the system as “excellent”. Given the limited study on the development and evaluation of information systems designed to support the marginalized sectors in the country, this study provides significant insights on the software quality principles and competencies as universal standards that boost favorable customer satisfaction and optimum user experience.

Extent of Internet Use and Anxiety in Adolescence 青少年网络使用程度与焦虑

This paper examined the extent of Internet usage and the level of anxiety of high school students of a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines. Stratified random sampling with a random start was used to draw the 304 respondents of the study, mostly males, aged 13–16 years old. The respondents exhibited a moderate extent of internet usage. The use of the Internet has become a daily activity for fun, play, and educational purposes among Filipino adolescents. Internet use has been linked to the level of anxiety of adolescents. The results highlight the need for more studies to investigate other variables for an in-depth understanding of the risk factors relating to the extent of internet usage and anxiety of adolescents.

Resilience of Graduate Faculty in the New Normal Adversities 新常态逆境下研究生院的应变能力

Resilience can be defined as ‘self-restorative inclination’ that rouses individuals to develop as typical grown-ups even in the most tough situation. The purpose of this research was to investigate the resilience of graduate faculty in the new normal adversities. A descriptive correlational research design was employed in this study and data were drawn from the faculty of the college of graduate studies. Research Findings reveal that the respondents have normal resilience levels. Furthermore, no significant relationship was found between gender, age, marital status and monthly income with the resilience level. Generally, it can be concluded that the faculty are resilient amidst new normal adversities.

ICT Tools and Perceived Benefits in the Learning Process of Korean Nursing Students 韩国护理专业学生学习过程中的ICT工具和感知收益

This research study, a one-shot survey design, conducted in December 2020, examined the utilization and the perceived benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Tools in the learning process of nursing students in a private university in South Korea. The top-rated technological tools are digital books, nursing software, simulation, and multimedia. Laptop, desktop, tablet, and mobile are highly utilized. Students find these to be quick ways to access nursing information. ICT utilization by the nursing students is similar regardless of sex and grade level. Significant differences in perceptions of ICT benefits were noted by grade level, with fourth and third-grade students expressing more benefits to the utilization of ICT tools than second and first-grade students. Collaboration and communication are enhanced in an ICT-based learning environment, and interactions are facilitated, as well as opportunities for growth and engagements are created. Higher ICT utilization in nursing education is greatly beneficial to students. A nurse’s education must integrate technology to prepare them for work in an increasingly technologically-rich environment.

Designing Instructional Materials for a Flipped Approach to Learning Biology 设计以翻转教学法学习生物学的教材

Flipped learning is a pedagogical approach that has evolved from the variations of blended learning and involves prior study which emphasizes self-directed learning. This study aims to design instructional materials to harness learning skills, strengthen the mastery of cognitive skills, and help learners thrive and succeed in the 21st century. The flipped learning concept has been analyzed to design and develop learning widgets and instructional design models to learn Biology. The design of instructional materials was anchored on the framework for 21st century learning that identifies the skills and knowledge that the students need to succeed in work and life in the 21st century. The different learning tasks in the created instructional materials were appropriately designed to capture the 4 Cs – critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity of the students and were tailored fit for a flipped approach to learning Biology.

Inter-Locking Dependency Evaluation Schema based on Block-chain Enabled Federated Transfer Learning for Autonomous Vehicular Systems 基于区块链联合迁移学习的自动驾驶系统互锁依赖评估模式

Federated Transfer Learning is a new approach to optimizing information and data training frameworks to achieve a higher order of distributed learning. Currently, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) model is trained through online learning by exchanging the local and global updates. Context-based distributed learning with minimum communication becomes challenging due to the dynamic nature of autonomous systems. This paper aims to understand the past and future challenges, trends, and applications of new learning adopted in autonomous systems with a proposed schema of FTL-enabled autonomous models training. The goal behind minimizing the latency through the proposed FTL Interlocking Dependency Evaluation schema in exchanging the local and global updates is to match with the real-time application scenario by ensuring security and privacy features. The evaluation parameters used in estimating the performance of new learning are window size, back-off time, recovery policy (retransmission), scalability, peak data rate (Gbps), user-experienced data rate (Mbps), mobility (Kmph), latency (ms), end-to-end delay analysis, connection density (devices/km2), and area traffic capacity (Mb/s/m2). The evaluation results have validated the reliability of the proposed model for computing autonomous systems using a novel FTL Interlocking Dependency Evaluation schema for higher order of inter-dependency on vehicular environment processing.

Currently, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) model is trained through online learning by exchanging the local and global updates. Context-based distributed learning with minimum communication becomes challenging due to the dynamic nature of autonomous systems. This paper aims to understand the past and future challenges, trends, and applications of new learning adopted in autonomous systems with a proposed schema of FTL-enabled autonomous models training. The goal behind minimizing the latency through the proposed FTL Interlocking Dependency Evaluation schema in exchanging the local and global updates is to match with the real-time application scenario by ensuring security and privacy features. The evaluation parameters used in estimating the performance of new learning are window size, back-off time, recovery policy (retransmission), scalability, peak data rate (Gbps), user-experienced data rate (Mbps), mobility (Kmph), latency (ms), end-to-end delay analysis, connection density (devices/km2), and area traffic capacity (Mb/s/m2). Computer Discriminative Acoustic Tool for Reading Enhancement and Diagnostic: Development and Pilot Test 用于阅读增强和诊断的计算机鉴别声学工具:开发和试点测试

Speech is a simple and effective method of communication between humans, currently we are not only connected physically but also to the many devices in our life. Designing a machine that mimics human capabilities, especially in listening and responding to uttering words of humans have puzzled engineers and scientist for decades. In this paper, a thorough analysis of the literature on the acoustic was conducted, and the general architecture of the automatic speech recognition is presented consisting of acoustic front-end, acoustic model, language model, and decoder. In the test implementation of the speech recognition system, the Technology Acceptance Model was utilized, and Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ) was used in gathering the feedback of the initial users. Further, experimentation to selected students was administered in a four-week setting and divided into two groups controlled and uncontrolled. The result is encouraging in the two measures: acceptability and implementation, further study is encouraged in a broader sample is sought. This will be helpful in teaching reading especially in this time of pandemic where face-to-face is limited.

Hog Weight Estimation using Image Processing 基于图像处理的猪重估计

The demand for food rises proportionally as the population grows. To be able to achieve a sustainable supply of livestock products, efficient farm management is a necessity. In the Philippines, pig production, food processing, and profitability ratios can be detected by identifying the live weight of live pigs in real-time. Traditional pig weight detection often requires direct contact with pigs, which is limited by low efficiency and can result in even death. Detecting the weight of non-contact pigs has become a challenge in pig production for decades. The advancement in technology also brought innovations that could be harnessed in order to achieve better productivity in animal production and agriculture. Image processing is a promising concept of making use of cameras or available devices to automatically and continuously monitor and manage livestock images for production. With this concept, this paper introduces the integrate image processing technique for weight monitoring using thresholding with the Otsu method, the conversion of an image from true-color image to greyscale image, and the combination of erosion and dilation process to fill in the missing image elements in order to have a better conversion of image to weight. The height of the camera is 6ft. There are 20 hog sample data with the actual weight and the camera image converted weight with an average of -0.041% difference.

A Modified Memory-Based Collaborative Filtering Algorithm based on a New User Similarity Measure 一种基于新用户相似度度量的改进内存协同过滤算法

Data sparsity remains to be a critical concern for recommendation systems since it results in low accuracy and poor recommendation quality. To address this problem, collaborative filtering techniques based on user similarity have been applied but existing implementations have not been shown to sufficiently address the problem of data sparsity. Thus, this paper presents an enhanced memory-based collaborative filtering algorithm utilizing a new similarity measure that identifies co-rated items and computes user similarity to overcome the data sparsity problem and improve the recommendation quality which can be adopted for various applications. Results of the study show that the use of the new similarity measure has improved the determination of user similarity than when using the traditional Cosine, Euclidean Distance, and Pearson Correlation similarity metrics.
