Graphics Processing in Virtual Production 虚拟生产中的图形处理

Real-time rendering techniques, developed for computer games, offer great opportunities in Virtual Production. Ray Tracing has been used for CGI movies for many years but it is only recently that its application in real-time has become practical. This is partly due to improved algorithms but mostly advanced hardware such as the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3000 series of cards which provide hardware support for real-time lighting thus improving the quality of the rendered images in CGI. We conducted a series of tests for rendering of a Virtual Production scene in Unreal game engine. Images are rendered in 4K and output to a network distribution system where the image is broken down into a series of smaller images each rendered onto LED screens. Results were plotted to show the comparison of render times between two graphics workstations using Nvidia RTX A6000 GPU cards and Nvidia RTX A3090 GPU. Our findings state that whilst RTX produces better image quality the gains might not be worth the additional hardware cost required by the high-end graphic cards. It might also be optimal to split the rendering of the scene across multiple computers.

A Navigation Algorithm for UUVs to Avoid Shape Changeable Obstacles 一种无人机避开形状可变障碍物的导航算法

In order to guide an undersea unmanned vehicle (UUV) avoiding obstacles in an underwater environment, an navigation algorithm is proposed in this paper. It can be applied to planar environment, the shape of obstacles could be changeable. This method combines local path planning and global path planning together, switching between two modes so as to safely navigate the UUV’ s way. In order to show the performance of the proposed algorithm, the simulation results are presented by Matlab. The reason why we promoting this algorithm is that it is a computational efficient algorithm, comparing with the prior ones, the cost could be saved while achieving the expected results successfully.

A Q-learning based Method f or Secure UAV Communication against Malicious Eavesdropping 基于q学习的无人机安全通信防恶意窃听方法

Due to the advantages such as excellent mobility, low-cost, on-demand deployment, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are expected to play a significant role in the future wireless communication systems. One of the necessary and urgent problems is the physical layer security of this wireless communication system. Specifically, under the open nature of the UAV wireless channels, how to convey confidential information reliably in a coexistence environment with eavesdroppers. In this paper, we investigate a Q-learning based security scheme to maximize the average secrecy rate (ASR) against intentional or unintentional eavesdropping. Simulation results show comparable disguising performances compared with the benchmark method.

Rating Ease of Readability using Transformers 使用变压器评定易读性

Understanding and rating text complexity accurately can have a considerable impact on learning and education. In the past few decades, educators used traditional readability formulas to match texts with the readability level of students. This tends to oversimplify the different dimensions of text difficulty. Presently, transformer-based-language models have brought field of Natural Language Processing to a new era by understanding the text in a better way and achieving great success on many tasks. In this study, we assess the effectiveness of different pre-trained transformers on rating ease of readability. We propose a model built on top of the pre-trained Roberta transformer with weighted pooling, which uses multiple hidden states information effectively to do this task more accurately. Our experiments are done on a Dataset of English excerpts annotated by language experts which is extracted from Kaggle. On this Dataset, Our proposed model achieved 71% improvement over the traditional Flesch formula and a significant boost over other Transformer models and Long Short Term Memory(LSTM).

Predicting the Early Sign of Diabetes using ID3 as a Data Model 使用ID3作为数据模型预测糖尿病的早期症状

We all know that diabetes is a very chronic disease that needs to be detected in the early stage so we can prevent this. Detecting it in the early stage can help us to treat it well and improve treatment. Also, data mining techniques had been used in doing this research to analyze the data and to predict the output. With this paper, the researchers managed to use the ID3 algorithm as a data model that will need those attributes, test datasets, and training datasets for us to predict if the patient is diabetic or not. The medical professional may benefit from this since the application can perform a bundle of tests for multiple patients for easily identifying if the patient is diabetic or not. If the patient is diabetic, it can treat in the early stage.

Video Stabilization Using ORB Detector 视频稳定使用ORB探测器

Capturing a video may result in unwanted effects such as image blurring, distortion due to the noise, etc. To obtain a jitter-free video, this study aims to perform Digital Video Stabilization using an ORB (Oriented FAST Rotated BRIEF) detector to find feature points. It makes use of a Square filter with a moving average window in order to obtain a more stable output video. The goal of this proposed study is to implement the novel methodology to stabilize videos effectively.

A Motion-Based Tracking System Using the Lucas-Kanade Optical Flow Method 基于Lucas-Kanade光流法的运动跟踪系统

In video monitoring system, many challenges will affect its performance in tracking the movement of people. It was not tested in Lucas-Kanade Optical if it is affected by illumination changes. The basic purpose of this research article is to build and evaluate a proposed system for tracking a person’s movement and motion under various lighting conditions. The system used Lucas-Kanade Optical Flow and Canny Edge Detector. One objective is to use Independent T-Test as its statistical method to compare the processing time of the proposed system concerning motion detection in three different lightings. In the result of data gathering of processing time, the t-statistical value in Sunny and Dim lighting was 12.80, 3.23 t-statistical value in Sunny and Dark lighting, and 11.31 t-statistical value in Dim and Dark lighting. From the gathered data, the researchers fulfilled the research objectives that the proposed system can track a person’s motion even if there is a minimal difference in the environment’s lighting.

This paper is designed to have an optical character recognition system capable of interpreting captured images of hard disk drive and solid-state drive labels with high accuracy. Manual checking of the disk capacity size and part number found on the labels is time consuming, more prone to errors and utilizes more manpower. Automating the inspection through optical character recognition using image pre-processing and machine vision contributes to an easier inspection process, better management of records and faster cycle time. The images captured using a vision camera went through different stages of image pre-processing via OpenCV-Python and recognition through Google Tesseract. Different categorical variables including exposure time and location of texts in a captured image were used to determine and improve the overall recognition accuracy. By improving the lighting condition through the addition of light sources, the developed OCR system was able to achieve a character recognition accuracy of 99.375%.

Manual checking of the disk capacity size and part number found on the labels is time consuming, more prone to errors and utilizes more manpower. Automating the inspection through optical character recognition using image pre-processing and machine vision contributes to an easier inspection process, better management of records and faster cycle time. The images captured using a vision camera went through different stages of image pre-processing via OpenCV-Python and recognition through Google Tesseract. Different categorical variables including exposure time and location of texts in a captured image were used to determine and improve the overall recognition accuracy. Design and Development of IoT Gateway Software System 物联网网关软件系统的设计与开发

In this research and implementation, commercially available embedded development boards are used to implement the software functions of the IoT gateway, and the goal is to enable users to view the information of industrial-grade sensors through web pages. The development board uses LinkIt™ Smart 7688 Duo, developed by MediaTek. The retail price of this board is US$30 about, more cheaper than that of Raspberry Pi (about US$60~150). The proposal scheme is economical, and provides a customizing solution for System Integrators, who want to introduce IOT service to their customers. The main functions developed additionally into the IoT gateway are those for the mechanisms of Modbus and MQTT. The Web operation interfaces are also developed corresponding to the two functions. The function of Modbus over TCP is to provide the IOT manager station for reading/writing sensor systems through the IOT gateway, and that of MQTT lets the IOT gateway automatically read sensor systems and then send data to the IOT manager station. The physical bus between the IOT gateway and sensors is RS485, which is connected to 7688 Duo with an USB-to-485 adaptor. This development skill on the IOT gateway can provide a fully customizing solution for those who develop the IOT management system, and thus they can give an economical and full IOT service for their customers.

Business Development Using Big Data within UAE SMEs Retail Sector: Prospects & Questions 在阿联酋中小企业零售业中使用大数据的业务发展:前景与问题

Despite research on big data analytics being conducted in past, there are no studies focused on the opportunities i.e., growth prospects and its associated challenges in specific industries in UAE. In this study, big data analytics were used in SMEs retail sector in UAE region to assess the use of these technologies. Companies can use these to gain new understandings from their customers and suppliers perspective utilizing big data analytics techniques to take informative decisions on pricing, inventory management, payment solutions and marketing decisions. Big data can be used to help SMEs foresee the needs and preferences of their target audiences. The focus of this study is on SMEs since these are the pillar of every economy and can make quick adjustments to productivity changes. It aims to analyze and identify major chances and threats of Big Data and propose the best ways for SMEs to utilize it for improving their efficiency and business practices.
