Second screen user experience: A new digital television frontier 第二屏用户体验:数字电视的新前沿

Availability and increased hardware performance of handheld devices with high resolution screens encourage users to exploit them as the second screen while watching television. Second screen is a term that refers to an additional screen of a handheld device such as a tablet or a smart phone, with an operating system capable of running desired installed applications. Desire to make additional DTV information available to the user which can be presented on the second screen tends to push the limit of digital television in that direction. This paper presents a framework to distribute and present both premium and free-to-air television content. The framework is based on server/client architecture and includes: TV remote control, streaming of television services, additional content (Electronic Program Guide, reminders...), data protection of streamed services to client devices. The system architecture consists of a media server and its clients. Media server is a Set-Top box with Android OS. Main duty of media server is to receive and process DTV content received from broadcasters and distribute the content to clients (second screen devices). Client application is developed on various OS/Platforms: Android and iOS. Multimedia content can be streamed using supported protocols: HTTP, RTP/RTSP, and adaptive streaming protocols (HLS and MPEG-DASH). Streamed content is protected using DTCP-IP. The main objective of the paper is to describe the utilization of before mentioned standards in a framework to use the DTV data and functions beyond the scope of the main TV screen. The client application also implements the remote controller GUI in order to use one device to control the TV.

Comparison of different DC motor positioning control algorithms 不同直流电动机定位控制算法的比较

A comparison between different DC motor positioning control algorithms is performed in this work. Transient responses while employing a PID controller, a cascade controller and a state-space controller are considered. LabVIEW programming environment with a suitable acquisition card and a miniature DC motor with an integrated encoder are used for experimental assessment. Calculations and control system simulations are made using Matlab. The PID controller is implemented via the predefined PID block in LabVIEW. In turn, the state-space controller is modelled by using Matlab while the accuracy of the results is confirmed experimentally using LabVIEW. The cascade controller is developed as a series of two Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers, one representing the positioning and the other the velocity loop. The obtained results allow establishing that positioning control via the state-space controller has the fastest response and the lowest settling times.

Children's safety on the Internet-development of the school curriculum 儿童网络安全学校课程的发展

Generations that are currently receiving their education and those yet to come should get prepared for everyday interaction with information and communication technology. European Parliament and the Council of the European Union included digital competence in key competencies which each person needs to possess in order to adapt to the rapidly changing world. Their definition of digital competence, along with knowledge and skills, include critical attitude toward the responsible use of ICT. At the moment, Croatia does not have a national strategy for the internet safety and not even the minimum of children's knowledge about appropriate and safe use of internet is obligatory in school curriculum. Oř Veliki Bukovec together with partners Oř Popovača, Oř "Mladost", Oř "Gripe" and Oŕ "Mato Lovrak", is running a 16-month European Union-funded project " Children's safety on the Internet " developing new school curriculum area for children's safety on the Internet for students aged 7-14, their parents, teachers and local community. Curriculum will consist of pedagogical-didactical model, acceptable use policies, multimedia resources, textbooks and guides. The project aims to improve students' digital competences and encourage children to assume responsibility for their own safety with a focus on empowerment, emphasizing responsible behavior and digital citizenship and to raise student teacher, parents and general public awareness and understanding of issues relating to children's safety online in synergy with the EU policies.

Feature selection for object detection: The best group vs. the group of best 目标检测的特征选择:最佳组vs.最佳组

The problem of visual object detection, the goal of which is to predict the locations and sizes of all objects of a given visual category (e.g., cars) in a given set of images, is often based on a possibly large set of local features, only a few of which might actually be useful for the given detection setup. Feature selection is concerned with finding a `useful' subset of features. In this paper, we compare two approaches to feature selection in a visual object detection setup. One of them selects features based on their individual utility scores alone, regardless of possible interdependence with other features. The other approach employs the AdaBoost framework and hence implicitly deals with interdependence. Using two feature extraction methods and several image datasets, we experimentally confirm the significance of feature interdependence: features that perform well individually do not necessarily perform well as a group.

Education of cosmetic device users in Slovenia 斯洛文尼亚美容器械使用者的教育

The education of cosmetic device users in Slovenia and across Europe is diverse. Although their level of knowledge varies, almost all users are allowed to perform the same cosmetic procedures. In Slovenia, all major stakeholders in the field of cosmetics are interested in increasing the level of knowledge of all participants, since knowledge and experience is the best assurance for safety and efficacy as well as customer satisfaction. This article reviews the education system and Slovenian organizations providing formal education in the discipline. The tremendous rate of biomedical innovation in cosmetic devices forces experts to get novel knowledge through education outside the government-regulated framework. Informal education provides a fast and efficient way to educate users in new procedures, but requires user's critical thinking since it is often commercially oriented. The rate of biomedical innovations implanted in the novel cosmetic procedures represents challenges to both formal and informal education. Lecturers face students' questions about novel procedures available on the market on a daily basis. For them, a big challenge is to be continuously acquainted with the new biomedical innovations implemented in the field so that they can provide evidence-based answers.

An annotated Urdu corpus of handwritten text image and benchmarking of corpus 手写体文本图像的标注乌尔都语语料库及语料库的基准测试

For linguistics related research on a language there is always a need for a large collection of database which includes all features of a language such as grammatical information, style of writing, syntax etc. Corpus provides a platform for investigation on a natural language. As compared to other languages very limited research work is done on Urdu language due to its segmentation dilemma and difficult character shape. Very less number of editable printed text data is available in Urdu language, most of the data is available in graphical or picture format. To increase Natural Language Processing research work on Urdu language there is a need for a large database which contains a range of variance in annotated Urdu handwritten as well as printed text. In our work we purpose a large database of Urdu text including 1000 handwritten text images written by 500 different writers. Each image would be four to six lines of Urdu text having 60-80 words per line the estimated number of words would be around .35 million. Selection of words would be done from six different categories so that maximum number of distinct words can be included. Corpus would be annotated for line as well as word segmentation where a word may be an individual character or component. The corpus would be a benchmark for quantitative analysis of Handwritten Text Recognition techniques for Urdu language such as text line extraction, word segmentation and character recognition etc., and for linguistic research in Part of Speech, writer identification, dictionary etc.

In the last three decades, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector has been growing very fast. There is no such example in human history that development of a technology has changed our way of life in such a rapid and fundamental manner. ICT has become an integral part of our everyday life including social interactions, business processes, technology and ecology. Due to the fact that ICT not only promises enormous potentials but also carries risks, it is extremely important to carefully evaluate and assess ICT systems and applications regarding their potential for improving the global energy productivity in a sustainable manner. This paper concentrates on technologies and methods for achieving high-performance and energy-efficient communication networks. Main achievements and trends towards highly energy-efficient network infrastructure are briefly reviewed. A novel holistic framework able to efficiently treat energy, entropy, and exergy flows in heterogeneous systems through combining thermodynamic and communication approaches is presented.

Information system infrastructure planning-threshold setting based on risk analysis 信息系统基础设施规划——基于风险分析的阈值设置

Information systems infrastructure planning performed based on the data collected from network monitoring and asset management systems can be developed further to include risk assessment and analysis as an input to the threshold setting methods in the two-dimensional load-age balance graph. The two-dimensional load-age balance graph is used to present generic value for network devices load gathered as measured values through the network managements system, and age - gathered from the asset management system. Threshold lines are defined in such graph to present areas of different interest from the perspective of low-high age, low-high load, or some other selection criteria. This paper explores how the threshold values can be set to reflect risk assessment methodology of the owner/maintainer/user. The position of each networking device in the graph is unique, disregarding the threshold values. However, the total score for the system, determined based on the position of a device in the graph area, depends on the defined threshold. The paper analyzes the impact of the threshold change based on the risk assessment criteria to the total score for a system. The total score can then be used to compare different systems, or to compare the same system in time.

Development of a computer system to support knowledge acquisition of basic logical forms using fairy tale "Alice in Wonderland" 开发一套电脑系统,以支援利用童话故事“爱丽丝梦游仙境”获取基本逻辑形式的知识

The knowledge acquisition of basic logical forms (term, statement, conclusion, and proof) is a prerequisite of the acquisition of any other knowledge and skills. Therefore, the knowledge acquisition of basic logical forms needs to be addressed in the earlier stages of education. In order to support the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the domain of logical forms, the authors of this paper propose the development of a computer based system for the presentation of thematic information, tasks and games based on the parts of "Alice in Wonderland" - fairy tale recognizable and popular due to Carroll's game with the basic forms of logical thoughts. The computer system would allow children and adults to gain the subject knowledge. A paper describes two initial phases of the aforementioned system - analysis and design. Analysis specifies in detail the basic system requirements, expressed in terms of learning outcomes. Design specifies in detail thematic information, tasks and games which will try to ensure achievement of learning outcomes specified in the analysis phase. The focus of design is in the use of a fairy tale Alice in Wonderland, and in the development of a computer based system.

Telehealth using ECG sensor and accelerometer 使用心电传感器和加速度计的远程医疗

The increasing size of the elderly population is driving the development of ambient assisted living systems and telehealth. The recognition of the user's everyday activities and detection of alarming situations are important components of such systems. Moreover, the monitoring of vital signs, like the ECG, has a key role in telecare and telemonitoring systems. Therefore, in this paper we propose a system that monitors the user by combining an ECG sensor and two accelerometers. Our system recognizes the user's activities and detects falls using the accelerometer data. The ECG data is analyzed in order to extract relevant physiological signals: heart rate, respiration rate, etc. In order to improve the reliability and robustness of the system, the measured accelerometer signals can be combined with the ECG signal in order to detect anomalies in the user's behavior and heart-related problems. The proposed proof-of-concept system could contribute significantly to the quality, unobtrusiveness and robustness of the health care and patient safety.
