The “Internet of Things” is a modern paradigm that foresees the near future of internet, which will drastically changes the human life. IoT envisions future in which physical objects can be linked to digital world by using communication technologies and various interfaces. In IoT, every sensors and actuator enabled things or objects with processing capabilities will interact with each other and to the human, within internet infrastructure. In this survey paper, various empowering technologies, communication protocols, middleware, QoS for IoT and few IoT frameworks are reviewed. Also open challenges in each of the above categories and case studies are discussed.

The Bandpass filters play an important role in microwave communication systems and millimeter-wave systems. A parallel coupled band pass filter is one of common devices used mixer in microwave receivers. The mixer operates in C-band. Analysis and Simulation results are included in this paper from 4.162GHz to 4.536GHz, the measured return loss is greater than 20 dB, and the measured insertion loss is less than 0.16 dB at the center frequency. The band pass filters are designed with micro strip line. The transmission lines are synthesized and the development of the parallel coupled micro strip filters are simulated by using Advanced Design Software.

This paper proposes an optimization method for determining the optimal tuning parameters of PID controller, for level control of three tank system. The main objective is to obtain a fast and stable system by tuning the PID controller using Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. The simulation is done using MATLAB software. The response of PSO based PID controller is compared with Z-N tuned PID controller in terms of time domain specifications. The simulation results shows that tuning the PID controller using PSO provides fast and stable system with low overshoot.

Signed Baugh-Wooley multiplier is famous for multiplication of signed multiplicands in twos complement data representation. In this Paper, a novel 4∶2 and 5∶2 compressors architecture is proposed. Wallace tree architecture is chosen to reduce the number of stages and by using the proposed compressors additional reduction of latency and area is achieved. The performance of these compressors is evaluated by including those in signed Baugh-Wooley multipliers with Wallace tree. The result shows 6.77 percentage reduction in cell area and 7.04 percentage faster than existing Signed Baugh-Wooley multiplier when 5∶2 compressor architecture is used.

The penetration of distributed generation (DG) violates the relay coordination in distribution network. The original relay settings can be restored by nullifying DG Impact. This paper presents a new protection scheme considering use of fault current limiter (FCL) and adaptive protective relaying to restore the relay coordination. The use of FCL, sometimes, increases the backup relay operating time. The adaptive protective relaying requires microprocessor based digital relays and communication system. This increases cost and complications of protective system. In context with this, a small size of FCL is used in series with DG to restore the settings of far end relays. The near end relays are replaced by digital relays to restore the original relay settings. The proposed scheme is implemented to different networks and find suitable to restore relay settings. A case study is presented to illustrate the proposed scheme.

This Paper presents a methodology for optimal distributed generation (DG) allocation and sizing in distribution systems, in order to reduce the electrical distribution power losses and to guarantee acceptable savings and voltage improvements. The optimization process is evaluated by the combination of genetic algorithm (GA) techniques with optimal power flow to evaluate DG impacts in savings, losses and voltage profile. The fitness evaluation function that drives the GA to the solution is the Network Performance Enhancement Index (NPEI). The objective is to maximize the DG capacity with the reduction in the system loss, by knowing the total number of DG units that the user is interested to connect. The new and fast algorithm is developed for solving the power flow for radial distribution feeders taking into account embedded distribution generations. And also, new approximation formulas are proposed to reduce the number of iterations. The economic constraints are also considered by accounting for the savings obtained when the DG is inserted into the system.

The direct torque control method is a powerful control technique for specially induction motor drive due its fast dynamic torque response. It originates in the fact that torque and flux is directly controlled by instantaneous space voltage vector unlike. Field Oriented Control (FOC) and smooth control of drives are being utilized to perform real time simulation on the ac motor variables, such as electromagnetic torque, fluxes, mechanical speed, etc. For the reason, direct torque control gradually has been used in the field requiring fast response since its introduction in the mid-1980. Even though the direct torque control has several problems. These problems are: (1) low switching frequency and variation in speed; (2) the increase of the torque ripple in the low speed region; (3) the short control period (25 µs) for the good performance. To solve the problems of Direct Torque Control, several studies were carried out. This paper improves one of the drawbacks of Direct Torque Control with the Hysteresis direct torque control. In some papers to avoid these problems 2 level inverter with induction motor has been used but it is very complicated and didn't show large improvement. In this paper, Hysteresis direct torque control method with 3 level inverter has been implemented and its effectiveness is compared with conventional direct torque control with 2 level inverter by using Matlab/Simulink.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems have been numerously developed for the recognition of printed script in many languages. Multiple approaches to pre-processing and segmentation exist for various scripts where OCR accuracy mainly depends on the text pre-processing and segmentation algorithm being used for the document. When the document is scanned it can be put in any arbitrary angle which would appear in the image as skew angle. Our experimental results proposed in the paper assures the superior algorithm for correction of skew angle of the text document. Projection Profile based methods used makes segmentation easy to separate the text in document image into lines, words and characters independent of the Language in the Text.
