In this paper two modified structures of multi- layered broadband 3 dB/'90deg coupled line couplers are proposed. The first structure is a broadside coupled stripline coupler with corrugated ground plane. The second investigated structure is a modified micro strip-slotline coupler. In comparison to basic configurations of couplers the improvement of operation bandwidth for proposed structures is achieved. The simulated results are experimentally verified and a good agreement is obtained. For the first structure the measured operation band is from 1.5 to 4.5 GHz with coupling and transmission equal 3plusmn1 dB and isolation and reflection losses better than 20 dB. For the second structure in operation band from 2.4 to 6.4 GHz the measured transmission and coupling are 3plusmn0.8 dB with isolation and reflection losses better than 20 dB.

Microwave hyperthermia is a promising method of cancer treatment used to increase the temperature within the interval of 40 - 44degC. The goal of this paper is to introduce the possibility of treatment planning for superficial hyperthermia using COMSOL Multiphysics. The real model of the patient with recurrent breast cancer was developed. The waveguide horn applicator with aperture of 10 x 10 cm was used for the planning. Results of impedance matching and 3D SAR distribution are presented.

One of two numerical principles on dielectric materials in connection with Multi Level Fast Multipole Method (MLFMM) and Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD) approximation of Method of Moments (MoM) have to be applied to analyze electrically large structures at higher frequencies. The paper deals with a development and comparison of several models of Fabry-Perot resonator for spectroscopic measurement of both gas attenuation and spontaneous emission. A simplified model capable to solve the resonator performance up to 110 GHz (i.e. the radius of the mirrors corresponding to 55 times wavelength) is introduced.

Gallium Nitride's superior physical properties, in comparison with other semiconductors, make GaNHEMT active devices a prime candidate in the implementation of next generation transmitters for radar systems, 3G/4G base stations and WiMAX. In this contribution, the characterization, modelling and verification of different families of high efficiency, high- power devices manufactured at SELEX Sistemi Integrati are reported. Process, characterization and modelling phases are analyzed to improve and refine the technology's fabrication techniques, thermal degradation issues and dispersion phenomena.

This paper deals with a class of quarter- wave particle accelerator resonating structures. The structure has been modeled as a cascade composed of several transmission line sections. Resonant frequency, total power loss, longitudinal voltage and current distribution as well as efficiency ratio are calculated and discussed. Theoretical results are used in resonator design, and verified using a downscaled model. Using of the presented method is not restricted to any geometry of analyzed transmission line.

In this paper is presented our longstanding experience with combination of teleradiotherapy and superficial hyperthermia in the treatment of patients with head and neck cancers, especially in cases with superficial tumors or lymph node metastases, in the Institute of Radiation Oncology in Prague. Microwave thermotherapy - hyperthermia in combination with other treatment methods (mainly with teleradiotherapy) is currently very effective and important method for cancer treatment. Technical equipment for before-mentioned therapeutic method in this clinical working place is described as well. The treatment results were evaluated after 1-2 month after end of treatment series by various examination methods. They are part of this paper as well.

In this paper, a novel compact wideband rejection LPF using defected ground structure (DGS) is presented. The proposed LPF consists of hi-lo etched slots in ground metallic plane as defected ground structure(DGS) and of microstrip hi-lo structure, which corresponding to capacitance and Inductance on the top layer. The effect of the DGS slot on the characteristics of the investigated filter is examined. In this work we have proposed a simple method to realize a compact DGS LPF with good characteristics . In order to prove the efficiency of the method, a comparison is made between the new DGS LPF and conventional filters , which shows that the proposed filter with etched cells is enough to obtain better performance by suppressing ripples and a very large stop band. Measured results are found to be in good agreement with the simulation results.

We report about design and construction of the bidirectional transceiver module for subscriber part of the passive optical network PON for a fiber to the home FTTH topology. The TRx module consists of a epoxy novolak resin polymer planar lightwave circuit PLC hybrid integration technology with volume holographic grating triplex filter VHGT, surface-illuminated photodetectors and spot-size converted Fabry-Perot laser diode in SMD package. The hybrid PLC has composed from a two parts - polymer optical waveguide and VHGT filter section and a optoelectronic microwave section. The both parts are placed on the composite substrate.

In this paper, a new design of planar-tree fractal antenna based on ternary fractal tree geometry for multiband communication services is proposed, designed, and tested. The modified fractal tree antenna is employed to achieve multi-band characteristics. As a low-profile antenna, the proposed antenna covers the DVB-H (174-862 MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2484 MHz), WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) (5150-5356 MHz) band with 10 dB return loss criterion. The measured return loss of the proposed antenna is presented and compared with simulated results.
