Abstract In light of deliberative theory and based on the concepts of bonding rhetoric and bridging rhetoric (Dryzek, 2010), this article aims to investigate how sarcasm was employed in online conversations on Facebook and YouTube regarding budgetary cutbacks in education made in 2019 by the Ministry of Education (MEC). Sarcasm was the most used argumentative device and was often associated with insults, contributing to a polarized discussion. Sarcastic comments also had low rates of justification, were predominantly declaratory, and largely had a generic or specific target, generating reaction and conflict while strengthening a bond with those who understood the sarcastic meaning behind the message and agreed with the subject who employed it.

Abstract In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, the clash and resistance of the press to the attacks and aggression by the deniers was evident. The documentary Cercados, produced by Globoplay, object of analysis of this work, portrays the challenges behind the scenes of the news coverage in the first year of pandemic in Brazil. Supported by concepts of enunciation theory and television studies, this paper aims to reflect on the effects of meaning produced by the audiovisual text and its contribution to critical reflection about the disinformation scenario, as well as the relevance of journalism as an institution of the democratic system. The results indicate that the organization of the discourse, marked by the aesthetics of self-referentiality, allows the enunciatee to enter the universe of journalistic production and identify with the thematic roles played by journalists.

Abstract The article delves on the question about the movement and other ways of appropriating techno-social frameworks of the present. It develops a theoretical and reflexive systematization and update on approaches of differential experiences in virtual environments. The main themes for this purpose are spatialities, corporeality, agencies and appropriations of spaces and tools. This approach is based on theories such as technofeminism and social studies of technologies, especially the social constructionism perspectives. We use the theoretical tools of feminist and intersectional studies to explore on the notion of differential experiences. The conclusions offer situated proposals for conceptual frameworks, as possible ways of approaching on issues about digital technologies, diversity, access and equity.

Abstract The purpose of this article is to report and discuss the results of an analysis carried out on the development of scientific production of communicational studies in Brazil, from 2000 to 2020, which addresses LGBTQIA + representations in advertising. As sources, we considered works published in the annals of three important national events in the field of Communication Sciences, such as: Intercom/Thematic Division (DT) 2 - Advertising and Propaganda; the Pró-Pesq PP; and Compós. From the 4,902 articles that make up the aforementioned annals, 38 (0.78%) relevant texts were identified, selected and analyzed. The results shared in this work outline an informative framework that highlights not only theoretical aspects and methodological approaches but also some paths and challenges to be embraced in future studies.

Abstract This article is the result of the research Journalism, memory and city: study of the supplement Cultura of Zero Hora (2011-2014), which problematize the memorable gestures of a cultural supplement in the journalistic representation of the city. Here, we analyzed the chroniclers Luís Augusto Fischer, Ricardo Chaves e Ismael Caneppele who had fixed columns in the suplemment, considering that they are a special point of view about the city, mediators governed by the experiences of living and belonging. Based on the narrative analysis, we focus on the representations of the city proposed by the chroniclers, the ways in which they move around it, the map they affectively inhabit, which places receive visibility and value resulting in a singular topography. We find in the cultural supplement an environment propitious for the fusion of signs that characterize the chronotope, that is, time indexes that appear in space and, vice versa, the space that makes sense because it´s measured by time.

Abstract In this article we state the main analysis perspectives and key categories that guide the research project Urban Youth Activisms: aesthetic, migratory, racial and gender issues. It was conducted by the Brazil team together with the Red Iberoamericana de Posgrados en Infancias y Juventudes (RedINJU): an international research network constituted by the WG CLACSO (Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales) Infancias y Juventudes. In this first presentation, which corresponds to the initial nine months of our study, partial results are also shared regarding the reflective, contextual and conjunctural comparison of empirical data concerning some of the intersectional aspects that guide the approach with our research subjects. They’re critical, qualitative and situated readings of statistics (official and independent) on Brazilian urban youth, which concern racial and gender issues.

Abstract This paper aims to analyze how antifeminist content published on Facebook mobilizes hate and uses it as a powerful political tool. The methodological path was to collect content made available in the pages of the mentioned social media website and to examine them using the Discourse Analysis from the Foucaultian perspective. I consider, therefore, that these enunciations exist in a context and meet the urgent needs of antifeminism. In this work, the need to promote a sense of controlled urgency will be specifically discussed: narratives are created to encourage both explosive and continuous reactions, in order to ensure that aversion felt for these militants retains its intensity and lasts throughout time. This strategy solidifies the union between the antifeminist group under the idea of confronting a terrible villain.

Abstract Studies show that the dissemination of discriminatory views and stereotypes by commercial media do not go towards defending the rights of native peoples in Brazil. However, there are few studies on how native peoples use technologies to communicate and deal with such discrimination. This article looks to fill this gap by presenting the results of a study on the subject, aimed at producing scientific knowledge about the indigenous network known as Mídia India and their presence on Instagram. We achieved this by conducting a narrative analysis of 31 posts from 2019 in response to stereotypes and hegemonic degrading views. The results suggest that this network differs itself by holding constructive dialogues about stereotypes and questioning them in order to generate serious thought and deconstruct the stereotypes.
