This study examines property crime trends in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya from 2015 to 2020, utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and comprehensive crime data from the Royal Malaysia Police. It focuses on the relationship between property crime rates and the delineation of police station jurisdictions across Selangor State, Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory (KLFT), and Putrajaya Federal Territory (PFT). The objective is to understand the dynamics of property crime, its evolution, and the influence of the National Transformation Program on crime prevention strategies. By assessing the spatial distribution of property crimes, this research aims to identify underlying trends and the efficacy of hot spot policing. The analysis is underpinned by an extensive review of secondary data from the Intelligence/Operations/Records Division of the Royal Malaysia Police Headquarters, enabling a deep dive into the spatial characteristics of property crime within these regions. The findings contribute to the broader understanding of crime prevention in Malaysia, underscoring the importance of GIS technology and the need for strategic interventions tailored to specific crime patterns. This study provides critical insights for policymakers and law enforcement to formulate evidence-based strategies, enhance public safety, and inform future crime prevention efforts.

Spatial Modelling Analysis for Potential Expansion of Cipanas City Candidate Area as Autonomous City 西帕纳斯市候选自治市潜在扩展空间模型分析

The establishment of new autonomous city is considered a significant decision and the proposal has been under review in Cipanas for several years. Therefore, this research aimed to address the proposal by conducting spatial modelling analysis for potential expansion of Cipanas as autonomous city, using Geographic Information System (GIS) method. The physical and social factors were analysed, using spatial overlay analysis to determine potential development area. SWOT analysis was also performed for qualitative insights into strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the prospective Cipanas area. The results showed that Cipanas had significant potential to become autonomous city, with a particular focus on agriculture and tourism due to the varied topography and predominant natural land use. Through overlay analysis, areas in Pacet, Cipanas, and a small part of Cugenang Sub-districts were identified as potential development zones for the capital city. In general, Cipanas area was found suitable for the development of a major city with an agropolitan concept. Certain areas were considered more appropriate with urban characteristics compared to other areas based on specific criteria. Based on the results, recommendations include infrastructure improvements, economic sector diversification, tourism promotion, and disaster risk reduction activities. GIS spatial analysis facilitated the accurate identification of potential areas, aiding in mapping and pinpointing optimal areas for the establishment of new autonomous city.

Analysis of Chlorophyll-a Variability in the Eastern Indonesian Waters Using Sentinel-3 OLCI from 2020-2021 利用 Sentinel-3 OLCI 分析 2020-2021 年印度尼西亚东部水域叶绿素 a 的变化情况

The Eastern Indonesian waters are significant in influencing the global climate system and oceanic connectivity. However, the Indonesian Through Flow (ITF) facilitates the movement of waters from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean. This flow vertically mixes water masses in the Eastern regions, leading to the concentration of phytoplankton. In addition, the distribution of phytoplankton, indicative of chlorophyll-a concentration, is influenced by upwelling and downwelling phenomena. Chlorophyll-a, responsible for capturing carbon and producing oxygen in marine ecosystems, is important in regulating climate change. Moreover, oceanographic conditions play a significant role in the dispersion of chlorophyll-a concentration. Therefore, this study adopted ocean colour remote sensing technology to assess chlorophyll-a distribution. Monthly ocean colour data was collected by the multi-temporal Sentinel-3 Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI). The analysis output included chlorophyll-a concentration associated with currents and the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Data processing using the Case-2 Regional Coast Colour (C2RCC) processor resulted in an average chlorophyll-a concentration in the Eastern Indonesian waters ranging from 0.16 to 0.52. The results showed higher chlorophyll-a levels during the southeast monsoon (July to September) and lower levels during the northwest monsoon (January to March).

Tourism Investment and Land Use Change in the Northern Piedmont of the Western High Atlas (1989-2022) 西高阿特拉斯北部皮埃蒙特的旅游投资和土地利用变化(1989-2022 年)

This study aimed to investigate the profound influence of tourism investment on the Northern Piedmont of the western High Atlas over 34 years in response to the escalating global trend of tourism-driven land-use changes, particularly in the Marrakesh region. In this context, the driving forces behind the significant transformation of agricultural land and bare soils into tourism-driven investments were evaluated as well as the critical role of accessibility in shaping spatial shifts. The method used high-resolution (10 m) satellite images from Spot 1 (1989), Spot 5 (2003 & 2010), and Sentinel 2 (2022) through remote sensing methods to investigate the historical land-use changes over 34 years. The results showed significant transformations in land-use based on the correlation between improved transportation infrastructure and the growth of tourism ventures, underscoring the role of roads and facilities as catalysts. The analysis suggested the need for reflection on the consequences of unregulated tourism growth, aiming to balance economic benefits with environmental and socio-cultural challenges in sensitive regions. Although tourism significantly contributed to economic development and employment opportunities, it also posed risks when not managed prudently. This underscored the need to strike a harmonious equilibrium between economic prosperity as well as preserving the unique natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region. The insights provided in this analysis had broader implications for responsible planning and management of tourism development in sensitive ecological and cultural regions. In conclusion, a thoughtful and sustainable approach was needed to safeguard the delicate balance between economic prosperity and environmental preservation.

Enhancing Digital Elevation Model Accuracy for Flood Modelling – A Case Study of the Ciberes River in Cirebon Indonesia 提高洪水模型中数字高程模型的精度 - 印度尼西亚井里汶西贝莱斯河案例研究

Topographic conditions represented by the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) are essential in flood inundation models. The DEM which is categorised as a Digital Surface Model (DSM) stores the height information, be-sides the ground and non-ground elevation required for preprocessing before being employed in hydrologic applications, particularly in relation to flood modelling by removing non-ground elevation along the flood plain and river channels. The improvement in the accuracy of flood inundation modelling is crucial in reduc-ing the impact of flood disasters. This study aims to compare the accuracy level of the DEM based on Ter-raSAR-X data with the filtering process using slope-based filtering and combining the cross-sectional river profile from the field measurement to the filtered DEM. The result confirms that the accuracy of the DEM product is improved via filtering to remove non-ground elevations and a significant improvement in accuracy by means of fused river profile information to filtered DEM. The results of adding river information to the DEM could provide a representation closer to the cross-sectional profile of the river based on field measure-ments within the accuracy level Mean Absolute Error 2.51 m, 2.72 m and 1.91 m in the left overbank, right overbank and centre of the river, respectively. The performance results of the 2-dimensional flood hydrody-namic modelling using HEC-RAS derived from the DEM before filtering, after filtering, and the addition of river information show increasing accuracy in flood depth at each stage of the DEM processing. There is an improvement in accuracy in flood depth of approximately 11.67% using the filtered DEM, besides an in-crease in accuracy in flood depth by 24.98% utilising the filtered DEM with added river channel information.

The performance results of the 2-dimensional flood hydrody-namic modelling using HEC-RAS derived from the DEM before filtering, after filtering, and the addition of river information show increasing accuracy in flood depth at each stage of the DEM processing. This study examines the response to and support of the UNESCO recommendations on behalf of geo-tourism using the actual perspectives of tourists visiting the Toba region. The study employed a detailed map of Toba Geo-tourism in the Sumatra Utara Province, Indonesia, so as to provide a comprehensive understanding. The research was underpinned by a random sampling approach, gathering responses from a broad spectrum of tourists. The results captured an optimistic landscape, demonstrating a clear synergy between the UNESCO recommendations and the sentiments of the tourists. Not only did the guidelines resonate, but there was also a palpable feeling among tourists to either extend their stay or make a subsequent visit, provided the recommendations were implemented holistically. This study stresses the value of adopting and localising global sustainable tourism standards to suit a region such as Toba's unique attributes and tourist expectations. By means of this research, we aim to amplify that dialogue, charting a path for Toba and similar regions to embrace a future that is both ecologically sensitive and visitor centric.

This paper presents a comprehensive study relating to the vegetation cover change in Ugam Chatkal National Park (Uzbekistan) and its relation to climate change during the post-Soviet period (1991-2022). The study utilises remote sensing technology, specifically the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI), to monitor spatio-temporal changes in vegetation. Landsat satellite imagery and meteorological data, including temperature and precipitation records form the basis of the analysis. The research aims to understand the impact of climatic factors, such as air temperature, soil temperature and precipitation on vegetation cover. Statistical methods, for example Pearson’s correlation analysis are employed to determine the strength and direction of relationships between these variables. The study reveals that both NDVI and SAVI are strongly correlated with air and soil temperatures, indicating the significant influence of these climatic factors on vegetation health and growth. The findings suggest that changes in vegetation cover in the Ugam Chatkal National Park are closely tied to climate change, with air temperature revealing a substantial correlation with time, indicating a trend towards increasing temperatures. The study also forecasts future climatic and vegetation trends, predicting an increase in air temperature, precipitation and vegetation cover over the next four decades. In particular, the research highlights the magnitude of monitoring and understanding the complex interactions between climate change and vegetation dynamics, which are crucial for environmental management and policy-making in the region.

As a Mw 8.0 Nankai Trough Earthquake is predicted with an 80% probability of occurrence within the next 30 years, the efficiency of check dams in the mountains above Kobe City is a crucial question when considering co-seismic landslide disaster risk management. In the present contribution the author aimed to define which subsection of the Sumiyoshigawa watershed may be more prone to generate impacts in downstream Kobe City from catastrophic landslides in the headwaters. For this purpose, the present state of the check dams network was analysed from the 2018 LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data, considering the progressive infilling of the structures. As a result, the capacity of the dams in 2018 dropped by about 1/10 of the original designed capacity, arguably because of the heavy rainfall events in 2014 and 2018. Despite this evolution, however, landslides > 20,000 m3 starting from only one tributary can fill all the dams and flow downstream. From this data, it is possible to prioritize dam curation programs, especially because population ageing and shrinking is reducing the manpower and the funds available to maintain the check dams.

Implementing Support Vector Machine Algorithm for Early Slum Identification in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia Using Pleiades Images 利用Pleiades影像在印尼日惹市实施支持向量机早期贫民窟辨识

Slums are one of the urban problems that continue to get the attention of the government and the city of Yogyakarta. Over time, cities continue to experience changes in land use due to population growth and migration. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the existence of slums continuously. The objectives of this study are to conduct early identification of the slum using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) Algorithm, which is applied to the Pleiades Image in parts of Yogyakarta City, to test the accuracy of the slum mapping results generated from the SVM compared to the Slum Map of the KOTAKU Program. The data used are Pleiades Image, administrative maps, and existing slum maps of the KOTAKU Program, which are used to test the accuracy. The method used is Machine Learning with a Support Vector Machine Algorithm. The parameters used for early identification of the slums are the characteristics of the object (characteristics of buildings), settlement (density and shape), and the environment (location and its proximity to rivers and industries). We separate slum and non-slum based on texture, morphology, and spectral approaches. Based on the accuracy test results between the SVM classification results map of the slum and the map from the KOTAKU Program, the accuracy is 86.25% with a kappa coefficient of 0.796.

This paper focuses on Benin City, Nigeria, as a case study to explore urban sprawl and its associated problems resulting from unplanned and uncontrolled spatial expansion. Informal settlements house approximately 45% of Nigeria's urban population, leading to a range of land and environmental challenges. The study investigates how sustainable development goals can be realized through efficient sustainable planning and urban design concepts, with a focus on managing urban sprawl in the city. The methodology comprises a literature review, field investigation of unplanned or squatter settlements in a selected part of Benin City through the administration of 201 questionnaires, and an analysis of its developments and physical transformations. Understanding the issues of urban sprawl arising from the rapid spatial expansion of Benin City is crucial for achieving a well-organized, planned, orderly, and sustainable environment. This paper provides valuable insights and information to facilitate effective urban planning in the study area. Additionally, it offers guidance to practitioners and developers on the adoption of sustainability measures in their projects. The findings of this study contribute to expanding the knowledge horizon and serve as a reference for further research on spatial expansion and the incidence of sprawl in urban centers throughout Nigeria.
