It is interesting to state that half of the elected MLAs (20 out of 40) in the 2018-Mizoram State Legislative Assembly election were the candidates who got victory in their first time. This paper analyses the first time winners of MLA candidates in Mizoram particularly from the Fifth to Eight State Legislative Assembly polls (2003 to 2018). It also analyses Mizoram Assembly elections and political parties in brief.

The purpose of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of Plyometric Training (PT) and Resistance Training (RT) for improving speed ability of the Athletes. Total thirty six (N = 36) district level athletes were randomly selected. All the subjects were divided into three equal groups: i) Resistance Training Group (RTG) as Experimental Group-I, ii) Plyometric Training Group (PTG) as Experimental Group-II and iii) Control Group (CG). Experimental group-I underwent resistance training whereas experimental group-II underwent plyometric training for eight weeks. But the control group did not involve in any of the above treatments. In the present study speed ability was measured through 60 yard dash. To draw the statistical inference analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used followed by Tukey’s LSD test as post hoc test. Both RTG and PTG improved significantly with respect to the CG in speed ability. Significant difference was also observed between RTG and PTG in speed ability. It was also confirmed that the PTG improved better than the RTG in speed ability. From the above findings it can be concluded that PT is more effective training means than RT to improve the speed ability of the athlete.

Substance abuse includes any substance used in a patterned format related with disorder where the user takes substances which are harmful physically, mentally because of the amounts or methods for themselves or others. The substance focused in the present study is confined mainly to consumption and abuse of alcohol and drug. The prevalence of substance abuse among youth occurred at an alarming rate in Mizoram. As per the report of Mizoram State Aids Control Society (MSACS) revalidation, March 2013 there are about 10,750 regular injecting drug users in Mizoram. One of the assumed causes of substance abuse is low life skills of youths they lack the ability to face and adapt to real life demands and facing life with effective positive behaviour which is found to be more among broken family and low educational level. The present paper discusses low level of life skills education as one of the major causes of substance abuse and explained the relationship between substance abuse and life skills education among youth in Mizoram.

Landslide is a very common feature along highways, roads and inhabited areas, in and around Mizoram. It is one of the most problematic hazards in the region. The present case of landslide, is in the ‘College Veng’ road section. It lies in the south eastern parts of the Aizawl town. This section is situated along the Sikulpuikawn-Bethlehem Veng road. The Coordinates of the “College Veng” slide are between 23°43՛28.56՛՛/92°43՛28.28՛՛ to 23°43՛28.56՛՛/92°43՛28.34՛՛. The slide took place on 17th September, 2017, at mid night. The section had a relatively high amount of dip (48°-50°), and has a lithology comprising of Shale and Sandstone intercalation. The total length of the slide section along the road was 75 feet, with a height of 25 feet. After the critical observation of the incidence, the major aggravating factors were found to be that the heavy rainfall induced the top most shale bed to move down the dip slope. Improper sewage and subsequent mud erosion at the bottom of the shale layer, further accelerated the down slope movement of the slided block.

Due to unfavourable topographical features roads in hilly areas are usually small as compared to plain areas, therefore several problems may arise whenever rockfall occurs. One of the busiest domestic road in Aizawl i.e. Ngaizel road often encountered rockfall along its cutting slope. This road act as an important gateway which connects the southern parts of Mizoram. This road is packed with human activities which adds on the hazard level to rise high. The main factors that contribute to rockfalls include slope degree, geomechanical properties of rock mass and anthropogenic activities. Taking into consideration of all the adverse effect of rockfalls, RMR (Rock Mass Rating) become indispensable to identify the actual condition of rock mass on the slope of the study area. RMR classification is carried out to determine the geomechanical condition of slope rock mass and Rockfall Hazard Rating System (RHRS) is applied for identifying the hazard-prone area of rockfall along the cut slope of Ngaizel road. RHRS depends on various parameter which include slope height, annual precipitation, block size, block volume, decision sight distance, average vehicle risk, road width and rockfall history which mainly concern about the safety of pedestrians along the road. The RMR and RHRS study along Ngaizel cut slope provides a detailed and useful information about the geological condition and delineating the hazard level. The study also gave awareness and alertness about the actual condition of the area.

Adolescence is a period when numerous developmental changes as well as personal and social challenges are experienced. This generates the need to understand some of the crucial factors that may lead to inadequate development. The present study attempts to assess stress, self-esteem and peer pressure among Mizo adolescents. Seventy- eight (78) Mizo adolescents (39 males and 39 females) within the age range of 15-18years, belonging to Aizawl city, served as subjects for the study. A significant negative correlation (r = -0.40; p<0.01) was found between stress and self-esteem indicating high levels of stress that corresponds with low self-esteem. A negative correlation (r= -0.18; p>0.01) and a positive correlation (r=0.14, p> 0.01) is also found between peer pressure and self-esteem, peer pressure and stress respectively but is non-significant. Findings also indicated significant gender differences in stress (F=14.42; p <0.01) and self-esteem (F=33.96; p <0.01) with males (M= 77.46) having higher level of self-esteem than females (M= 64.84), and females (M= 24.67) having higher stress levels than males (M= 19.67).

School education is one of the most important aspect in the life of any individual and its outcome plays a very crucial role in shaping of the individual’s career. Students easily experience Academic stress at this crucial point in their lives. Achievement motivation plays an important and crucial role in academic achievement which seems to be the main goal in today’s educational system. The present study aims to highlight if Achievement motivation plays any role in the academic stress of the students. 198 students from high and higher secondary schools were used as samples for the present study. Results showed a negative but not significant relationship between the two variables. When the two genders (boys and girls) were compared in both the variables, result showed a significant mean difference between boys and girls in academic stress with girls higher than boys. There was no significant gender difference in achievement motivation, though mean of girls was higher than mean of boys among Mizo school students.

Sex-ratio or sex-composition is an important demographic characteristic of the population or society. In India’s population the deficit of women has been documented ever since the first decennial enumeration of people was conducted in the late 19th century, has been progressively increased. This deficit as evident from the sex-ratio of the population i.e. the number of women per 1000 men steadily declined from 972 (in 1901) to 940 in 2011 census. In India, an increase in the deficit of girl children in 0-6 age group, noted in the four decennial census, i.e. in 1981 (962 girls), in 1991 (945), in 2001 (927) and 914 girls in 2011, is an indicator of a strong possibility that traditional methods of neglect of female children are increasingly being replaced by not allowing female children to be born. In Himachal Pradesh juvenile sex-ratio declined from 971 in 1981 to 906 in 2011. The recent decline in the juvenile sex-ratio resulted from the ongoing pace of fertility transition, desired family size, practice of female infanticide, and rapid spread of reproductive technology such as-ultrasound and amniocentesis tests for sex-determination followed by sex-selective abortions in many parts of the country. However, government is taking initiative to stop gender discrimination and preference of boys over girl children. In this direction, stringent law, awareness, gender sensitive approach and change in mindset would be the best way for immediate action. To point out on this problem, the main focus of this paper is on declining sex-ratio, role of society, and government regulation with special reference to Himachal Pradesh.

To point out on this problem, the main focus of this paper is on declining sex-ratio, role of society, and government regulation with special reference to Himachal Pradesh.","PeriodicalId":316330,"journal":{"name":"Senhri Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123171368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster mushroom), a saprophytic macroscopic fungus, can grow on several lignocellulosic substances by degradation activity supported by several enzymes secreted by them. The mushroom is widely consumed for its delicious flavour in cuisines and medicinal purposes. The present study was focused on its cultivation on three different residues viz. paddy straw (Oryza sativa), wheat straw (Triticum aestivum) and garden grass (Cynodon dactylon). The research further focused on evaluating the biochemical composition including moisture, lipids, proteins and phenolic contents. All three substrates were compared based on total yield, cropping days and biological efficiencies. Maximum yield (458.97g/5kg substrate) and biological efficiency (91.79%) were observed in paddy straw, whereas the early growth was observed on garden grass. This study concludes the presence of high proteins and low lipids content in mushrooms, which is ideal for human consumption.
