This research aims to examine the nature of humans, starting from the essence that exists in humans, the purpose of life or the purpose of its creation, the potentials possessed, and their implications for humanistic education. This research becomes important because humanistic education based on the principle of humanity and the interests of fellow human beings seek to answer the problems that exist in the world of education, especially those related to the development of learners' potential through warm interaction and harmonious communication. This research is a type of literature research with a qualitative approach. The data is obtained through sources in books and scientific articles related to the topic. This study shows that God equips humans with various potentials and characteristics to fulfill all the tasks and obligations carried out by humans. The potential and characteristics given to humans also distinguish them from other creatures. In addition, these potentials also need to be concerned with determining the direction and purpose of education. One educational concept that gives full attention to these potentials is humanistic education by forming a warm interaction and harmonious communication between educators and learners.

Scientific thinking skill as the demand and a solution for the various diverse issues of the 21st century skills is necessarily crucial to be acquired by the students. The present research aims to investigate the effect of project-based learning on scientific thinking skills by employing a quasi-experimental design. The sample of this study consisted of 60 students, divided into 2 groups. In the experimental group, a project-based learning model was applied, while the control group implemented it through a communicative learning method. The data were collected using the instrumental test of scientific thinking skill which was carried out in both pre and post-learning. The data analysis of this study adopted paired sample t test and independent-sample t test. The results showed that 1) there was an effect of project-based learning models identified on scientific thinking skill, thus H1 was accepted while H0 was rejected, 2) there was no effect of communicative learning methods founded on scientific thinking skill, thus H0 was accepted and H1 was rejected. This research shows the effect of project-based learning models on scientific thinking skills.

The importance of English as a lingua franca requires students to master English. However, many students still cannot speak English, especially those who live in a country where English is a foreign language. For example, Indonesian students still face numerous problems in learning English, especially speaking. Hence, this study aimed to determine the factors that influence students' speaking performance from teachers' and students' perspectives in learning English speaking to assist students in overcoming difficulties in learning to speak English. Utilizing a survey, a total of one hundred eighty-nine students (n=189) and six teachers (n=6) in SMAN 1 Sape participated in this study. The main research instrument used was a questionnaire. The results showed that the teachers' and students' perspectives on speaking performance were quite similar. Regarding the problem of speaking performance, teachers and students agreed that (1) students were worried that making mistakes was the biggest problem and (2) they were shy to speak English. Moreover, in dealing with factors that influence speaking performance, teachers and students agreed that the highest factor was 1) lack of confidence as they were not familiar with English, (2) lack of time for preparation, and (3) lack of motivation to speak.

Aggressive behaviour has a significant negative effect on learning and academic performance. This study investigated the significant main effect of token reinforcement, cognitive behavioural therapy, and degree of disability on managing aggressive behaviour among pupils with intellectual disability. The study participants were 60 pupils (N = 60, N = 27 boys; N = 33 girls; mean age = 11.7) with intellectual disability who were purposively selected from three (3) special schools in Ibadan Metropolis. The participants were divided into three treatment groups: token reinforcement, cognitive behavioural therapy, and control groups, with the degree of disability as the moderating factor. The token reinforcement and cognitive behavioural therapy groups met for thirty sessions over twelve weeks. Two treatment groups were assessed using the Overt Aggression Scale, while the three treatment groups were assessed post-intervention using the Overt Aggression Scale. Data for aggressive behaviour performance were collected after the participants were screened for mild intellectual disability. An analysis of covariance and estimated means was used to examine the data. The results revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the three (3) treatment groups. The degree of disability on the aggressive behaviour of pupils with mild intellectual disability was significant. The interaction effect of treatment and degree of disability was significant on participants' aggressive behaviour. Based on this study's findings, the recommendation is that token reinforcement and cognitive behavioural therapy be adopted to manage aggressive behaviour among pupils with mild intellectual disability.

The issues of character-building quality and morality in Indonesia still become everyday tasks. A high rate of crime and violence occurs in ordinary people's life. Many younger generations, particularly school-age kids, were engaged in promiscuity, brawls, fight, et cetera. Thus, for solving the youth generation problem from an early age, improving character building is necessary. Islamic boarding school has a very strategic role in building character. The study is qualitative research with a study case in Hamzanwadi Nahdhadul Wathan Diniyah Islamiyah (NWDI) Islamic boarding school through an interview, thorough discussion, and direct observation in the research site. The current social circumstances at the spiritual level have brought an enormous influence on the establishment of religious behavior in adolescent students, both in the level of belief, practice, and religious experience. Religious education in the madrasah environment has a strategic position in building students' religious behavior. This study aims to explain why the rural and urban madrasah environment context is essential to observe the role of religious education, especially Islamic education, in building students' religious behavior in Lombok island. Then it sorts out the madrasahs characteristics or uniqueness from the two different regions, rural and urban. This research is qualitative psychological research with ecological contextual theory as the theoretical framework. The data analysis method is descriptive and holistic by employing three flows of interacting activities, e.g., reducing data, presenting it, and drawing conclusions. Data was obtained through documentation, observation, and in-depth interviews. This research was conducted in six madrasahs, i.e., two Madrasah Aliyah located in the downtown, and four Madrasah Aliyah, which geographically represent the category of the rural madrasah. The research results indicate that the spiritual development of the students cannot be separated from the religious education context in their environment. In urban areas context, the madrasah environment has formal systemic characteristics, is supported by strong management and leadership, maintains the madrasah stability and conduciveness by implementing a power strategy through a set of rules and code of conduct. Meanwhile, madrasas in rural areas have flexible, dynamic, and adaptive characteristics, in which education takes into account cultural aspects and values applied in the community.

The existence of Ma’had ‘Aly is an exciting thing and brings a narrative of controversy. Since being legalised in 2002, Ma’had ‘Aly has transformed into a modern Islamic educational institution under the auspices of a traditional Salaf pesantren. This article aims to explain Ma’had ‘Aly as an Islamic educational institution that specifically (takhaṣṣuṣ) produces fiqh experts and supports freedom of thought in exploring Islamic law. The research method uses a qualitative approach by studying documents extracted from the history of Ma’had ‘Aly, the takhaṣṣuṣ curriculum, and the Tanwirul Afkar (TA) bulletin. The results reveal the integration of the Ma’had ‘Aly curriculum, which is combined with the general curriculum and contemporary scriptures. Second, the controversy over TA as a forum for students to manifest their competence as fuqaha on various developing issues. Some of the controversial issues decided by TA were allowing interfaith marriages, allowing non-Muslim Indonesian President elections, and similarities between Islam and Christianity in relations and history. Some realities above show that Islamic liberal thought has emerged in salaf pesantren through Ma’had ‘Aly. The contribution of this research provides novelty that apparently Ma’had ‘Aly is trying to show that the door of ijtihād in the excavation of Islamic jurisprudence is still wide open.

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed many government policies. One of them is distance learning policies implemented by affected countries. However, distance-learning or online learning program has received a negative response due to the lack of preparation and socialization. Therefore parents, teachers, and students find it difficult to adapt. Students feel doubtful and anxious about success in online learning programs. At the same time, students need high self-efficacy to advance in learning and get the desired results. Therefore, this study aims to describe the description of student self-efficacy in online learning during the pandemics. The research method used is a qualitative approach. The primary data in library studies are compiled through various search pages for scientific journals, books, and government regulations. The study results show that not all students' academic self-efficacy during distance learning is high. Some students are in the lower middle category. In addition, social support has a strong role in increasing students' academic self-efficacy. Thus, this research can be used as an evaluation material in education and a reference in creating policies.

Following the 2013 curriculum, the mathematics learning process requires critical and creative skills that can help students solve a problem on math problems. Students who maximize critical thinking can conclude the information obtained, know how to use the information in math story problems, and find sources of supporting communication in solving a problem. In addition, students must have creative thinking skills that find new ideas or ideas from math story problems. This study discussess the importance of critical and creative thinking skills in elementary school students in solving math story problems. The method used in this research is the library research method with a qualitative approach. Critical thinking skills are an active process that continuously and thoroughly contains the contents of one's thoughts about something in-depth to decide what to believe or do. At the same time, creative thinking skills are the process of bringing up or bringing up a new idea based on a combination of previous experience. New ideas emerge from old ideas combined in new ways. The learning model that supports students in solving story problems is Problem Solving.
