A Critical Study on Women's Language in Indian English Drama 印度英语戏剧中女性语言的批判性研究

The function of language is associated with the verbal code. It becomes important when the verbal code itself becomes the central theme of a dialogue. Language has a key position in drama as it is, like in real life, the most important means of communication on stage. It has to be regarded as the one basic feature of drama that is related to both the dramatic characters and the action. Language in drama is represented as spoken language or, in other words, as speech. Dramatic utterances are poly functional: they can have several functions at the same time, both in the internal and the external communication system. The present paper aims to show women 's language used by both male and female playwrights and the essential rebellious spirit against the male chauvinism and talked of women's emancipation, individuality, and their socio -economic and political equality in present day society. Women performed in the earlier phase very happily to the script written by male playwrights. Though many male playwrights talked about women's issues, their presentation lacked the authentic ring of women's emotions and feelings.The women playwrights who are remembered for their remarkable contribution are Deena Mehta, Manjula Padmanabhan, Polie Sengupta whose texts have been discussed here. They have introduced new subjects affecting the feminine psyche using their language and technique.

Play, Defiance and Imagination As Forms Of Knowledge Production : Examining Bidesiya As Folk Theatre and Its Pedagogical Implications in Classrooms Of Literature 作为知识生产形式的戏剧、反抗和想象:《比德西亚》作为民间戏剧及其在文学课堂教学中的启示

India houses a number of folk theatrical forms that are simple and closer to the rural milieu. After the decline of Sanskrit classical drama in India, from the 14th to the 19th century, folk theatre emerged in myriads of rural languages. These theatrical forms can be categorised under two broad genres, viz., "Ritual Theatre" that was religious in nature, and the "Theatre of Entertainment," which was more secular in mood. One such example of the secular form is Bidesiya, the dynamic and popular theatre of Bihar. Bidesiya, like the name suggests, revolves around the "bides" / "pardes," i. e., foreign land / homeland dichotomy. Bidesiya emerged and was given shape by Bhikhari Thakur, the highly-acclaimed poet, playwright, and actor, and aimed at disseminating some kind of social message through the plays. Bidesiya also makes use of a plethora of folk songs that are rooted in Bihar's soil, and these plays were primarily performed by actors belonging to lower-caste communities. The most crucial aspect of Bidesiya is that this folk theatrical form is fundamentally radical and fluid in terms of how it deals with gender. Bidesiya showcases Launda naach — or the dance native to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that is performed by female impersonators — as a powerful theatrical technique. The present paper seeks to scrutinise Bidesiya as a gender-fluid folk theatrical form of India, and further explores the manner in which Bidesiya problematises the essentialist notion of fixed gender identity. The paper, therefore, begins with an elaborate discussion on the origin of Bidesiya, and moves on to study its various aspects, including the structure of the plays and the performers' troupes, the "men's" and "women's" folk songs which are associated with the genre, and the underpinnings of the staged performances. The paper then investigates the obfuscation of gender by the actors, visible in Launda Naach — the central element of Bidesiya plays — and the presentation of the songs, written from feminine perspective, by men. The concluding section of the paper highlights the pedagogical implications of Bidesiya and its relevance in classrooms, with a special emphasis on how gender is revealed as performative in the plays. Introducing Bidesiya in classroom education resists didacticism by promoting hands-on learning, creates a space for the students to locate themselves within the broad spectrum of gender identities, and also indulges imaginative voyages, as this paper will show.

Affirmation of 'SELF ' in Samuel Selvon ' S A Brighter Sun 塞缪尔·塞尔文《更光明的太阳》中对“自我”的肯定

The novelA Brighter Sun (1952), a debut novel by Samuel Selvon narrates the story of a sixteen-yearold ambitious Trinidadian of Indian ancestry, Tiger for self-affirmation of his identity. The novel desals with the social, racial and personal struggles of a young man, Tiger who settles in Barataria with his wife, Urmila. The story revolves around how Tiger and his wife come to terms with the creolized society, Barataria. The couple's Creole neighbors Joe Martin and Rita help Tiger and Urmila in the process of adjustment. Their stories are set against the broader background of the political situation in Trinidad. The building of the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway is described through the eyes of Tiger. The novel covers the period of the World War and is larger than just the personal lives of Tiger. By the end of the novel, Tiger comes to affirm his self very positively.

The Use of AI (artificial Intelligence) in English Learning Among Engineering Students: A Case Study 人工智能在工科学生英语学习中的应用:一个案例研究

Aim: This research aim is to analyze an artificial intelligence platform that can be used in imparting education as well as evaluating student performance Method: This research was conducted with a qualitative method by conducting in-depth interviews and a literature study. Results: The findings of this study shows that Artificial Intelligence technology can be used as a means of developing English learning for students. Discussion: There have been several studies that support research results, that AI can be used to improve students' English skills through applications, websites, Virtual Reality technology, and other AI-based learning and teaching systems. Limitation: The limitation of this research is that it does not examine how far the role of AI in students' English learning is. Suggestion: For further research, it is expected to test how far the role of AI is to improve students' English skills, especially Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapuramu (JNTUA)

New Voices for a New World: a Review of Learner-Centered Methods of Learning English 新世界的新声:以学习者为中心的英语学习方法述评

English is becoming the lingua franca in an increasingly globalized world. Professionals with a sound knowledge of the language coupled with the ability to communicate in English are on high demand. English is increasingly being rewarded as the global language; it is also known as the window to the world. To make the grade in terms of the basic skills of English language, effective and technical learning is extremely important. To be above board, effective learning of English language depends on the methods of language learning and teaching. There are numerous methods that are the pathways to learn English proficiently. Learner-centered methods are always preferred by the different levels of learners of English language. Trainers or the pedagogues should use learner- centered methods based on the levels of the learners' competence in the training sessions. This paper focuses on the different learner-centered methods of learning English along with their principles, prospects, goals, and procedures that help the learners to succeed in terms of becoming competent in effective listening, speaking, reading and writing.

"A Study on Reciprocal Teaching Strategy As A Reading Improving Technique in English" “作为英语阅读提高技巧的互惠教学策略研究”

The authors' reports an experiment designed to assess the relative effectiveness of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy (RTS) in improving reading in English among students over the conventional method. The sample consisted of 800 students in Vadodara district in Gujarat. Pre-test, post-test Equivalent – Groups Experimental Design was adopted. The author found that the reciprocal teaching strategy makes for statistically significant improvements in the gain scores pertaining to comprehension, speed and vocabulary acquisition over the conventional method of teaching the language.

The Milieu of English Learning in Conflictaffected Zones: An Analytical Study on Yemeni Undergraduate Learners 冲突地区的英语学习环境:对也门大学生学习者的分析研究

Despite that the international community agrees on the importance of education as an important tool for the emotional, physical and social stability of its members, education falls victim to the humanitarian crises across the globe. Due to instability and political unrest in conflict areas, accessing education becomes a dream for local young people residing in such places. It is agreed that war prevents students from their simplest right of pursuing education. It foils governments from functioning, teachers and students often flee their homes, and continuity of learning is greatly disrupted (UNICEF, 2021). Conflicts cause damage of schools, absence of teachers and students, delays in or even cancellation of the opening of the academic year. In the case of Yemen, Arab country located at the southwest of Middle East, war has killed tens of thousands, forced 4 million to flee and pushed the country to the rim of famine (Xinhua, 2022). In worst cases, students have to drop out of school and migrate to escape ongoing conflicts. Some of the students in such areas have become internally displaced, refugees or even fighters. For these harsh conditions, the schools and universities remain tremendously far-fetched. Education in conflict-affected areas has always been given a very low priority in humanitarian aid by organizations. Yemen, as a conflict-ridden area since 2015, has sunken into an unmerciful war which creates not only different security problems for Yemeni learners to carry on their regular formal learning, but also a number of economic and socio-cultural barriers as a result of instability in the area. Yemen's status before war as a "failed State" has merged with war to create critical lasting challenges (Cordesman, 2017). Yemen has been facing widespread corruption, diminishing resources, very high unemployment, poverty, political partitions, and recurrent conflict even before war (Kendall, 2020). During war, Yemeni people have found themselves in a fragmented country with a distorted economy, its social unity torn apart and narrow paths forward – often to the theatre of war and distress (Al-Jeddawy, 2022). War has been currently taking a huge psychological and material trauma on Yemeni young students as their schools and universities are being deliberately under attack (Qasem, 2017). The country is in keen need to sustain peace and face Yemen's economic and progress ch allenges which is possible only through education, research, and effective mobilization of human and natural resources in the country (Zakham, Vapalahti, Lashuel, 2020). This study is an attempt to explore the context of English learning at universities. It tries to investigate the challenges faced by undergraduate students to carry on their education in conflict zones. It seeks to understand the effect of civil conflict on the progress of higher education to suggest an immediate remedy to the adequate design of policies geared towards those individuals who have been

This research paper analyses how the seamless fictional Mumbai in Such a Long Journey (1991) by Rohinton Mistry and Love and Longing in Bombay (1997) by Vikram Chandra is created through the Oscillation of the real and imagined Mumbai. It makes a spatial inventory of the real, imagined, generic geographical places in Mumbai and non-Mumbai places. It looks at the use of multiple Indian and foreign languages. It also does a quantitative analysis of the mentions of Indian and foreign products mobilized in the creation of the fictional Mumbai. The research paper applies the theory of Geocriticism (2007) developed by Bertrand Westphal to the two selected texts in order to understand the process of Oscillation and the consequent production of the fictional discourse on Mumbai.

Science Fiction and Film: An Analytical Study of Two Select Indian Movies 科幻与电影:两部精选印度电影的分析研究

Science fiction is a genre of art that caters to the popular taste of the people. It presents a world mixed with science and fictional elements. It can be taken as a microcosm of fictional literature. It uses to present unfamiliar and unknown things in a familiar and known way. It provides its diverse themes and issues not only in texts but also in films. When science fiction is adapted into movies, it is able to attract a large number of audiences specially the young generation of writers. Science fictional films cover the issues like future society, challenges created by scientific developments, human enhancement through science and technology, human-machine clash, hybrid identity, world of aliens, and Artificial Intelligences. There are many films in western countries covering the issue of science fiction. Production houses designed the films in such a way that it can make an appeal to the audience. Even in India, there are several science fiction films. From 1952 to the present, Indian cinema contributes a lot by producing one after another attracting films on the theme of science fiction. The present paper is going to analyze two films Koi...Mill Gaya and its sequel Krish 3 from the perspectives of science fiction. The paper will also try to present the history of science fiction films in India and in the West. It attempts to depict the science fictional elements and new techniques shown in the films. These films are the representations of future society which accepts the inhabitation of different beings like modified human, superhuman and aliens.

Lost in Transition- Quest for Identity Through Diaspora 迷失在转型中——通过散居寻求身份

The conceptualization of migration in literature which more often than not precipitates tragedy and in turn the dilemma in identity is associated with the literary concept of diaspora. Popularly categorized with the longing for homeland and its poetics, there is a rhetorical attempt to fathom the void caused due to displacement. The dichotomy of two identities, created due to tension between the former self-clinging to roots of origin and the latter trying to configure oneself within the framework of a new identity, contributes to the amalgamation of distinguishable individualities. Primarily, Diaspora literature is characterized by a sense of alienation and loss that envelopes the narrative and it is conditioned by the after-effects of expatriation migration. Generally, it revolves around themes of displacement, attempts to trace back existential roots, nostalgia, and the inescapable association of the dire quest for identity that diaspora and migration literature bring on to. It deals with the equivocacy of plurality and hybridization in the domain of constantly changing identities and transnationalism in the process of migration. The paper attempts to examine the various forms of literature and the way they concretize diaspora, as a result: evoking literary stimuli of longing for homeland due to displacement. It aims to encompass the realms of cultural, economic, social, religious, and political consciousness that change an individual's displacement from one dominion to another. The narrative is shaped into reality with devices of metaphors and zeugma to explain exaggerated realities. This paper specifically closely reads texts of various literary genres like Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis, a graphic novel, Salman Rushdie's essay Imaginary Homelands Rohinton Mistry's short story Swimming Lessons and Jhumpa Lahiri's novel, Namesake.
